Im new in making jewelries from wire, i got a 14k gold copper wire. As i was twisting the wires using the round nose pliers and bent pliers, i notice tiny gold sheets coming off the wire. The ring mandrel i got have grooves around that also chips the gold from the wire as i slide it. I dont know how to choose a good wire. 😢

Plated wire can be tricky because if you are too rough with it, the plating can come off. You can get nylon tipped pliers that can help, but mostly it is just practice. You can use bare copper wire. That has no coating. And of course you can use sterling silver or pure gold, but those wires are incredibly expensive. Look into pliers that have a nylon tip and maybe invest in one to start, like a round nose plier and see how you fare with it. The best stainless steel ring mandrel is made by eurotool. If you find that you can't hold your ring mandrel still while wrapping and the wire is slipping all over the place, try investing in a ring mandrel vice. That will help keep your ring mandrel still and cut down on wire slippage while you work. The wire slipping can cause scratching of the wire, where the plating comes off if your not careful. Hope this helps!
