THE EASIEST PLANT PROPAGATION D.I.Y. VERBENA BONARIENSIS.MAKE FREE PLANTS.MULTIPLY YOUR PLANT STOCK
Verbena bonariensis has captured our garden attention because it can also thread together a scheme, add height without too much distraction, please pollinators and flower well into autumn. It will self-seed, particularly if you give it a free-draining substrate; it loves cracks in paving and gravel gardens. Although it’s a short-lived perennial, if the conditions are right, it will seed itself just as the parent plant is giving up the ghost.
THE EASIEST PLANT PROPAGATION D.I.Y. VERBENA BONARIENSIS. The simplest way round this is to take cuttings. With the average container of verbena bonariensis costing $15, it saves money too. Cuttings taken now will require somewhere frost-free over winter, but it’s easy enough to house a dozen or so if the winter is brutal.
MAKE FREE PLANTS.MULTIPLY YOUR PLANT STOCK. My cuttings will spend their winter by my back door, the lee of the house being protection enough. If frost threatens, I’ll put a propagator lid and fleece over them.

One of the best butterfly attracting plants I grow, and they reseed quite prolifically as well. Thanks for the video.

Thanks. It is a stalwart in our garden. I agree with you. There’s quite a lot of butterflies, bees and chocks of golden finches visiting about in our garden daily. Pure bliss ! 🙋🏻‍♂️

I knew about perlite in a clear box for mini-serre effect, but I'd never thought of the bottled perlite for support, I love it!!! It seems so much cleaner, so much easier to sort, and at least the leaves donc just lay in the humid perlite to rot! It's a great idea, thank you

I just tried this again. I harvested several side shoots from my previously propagated plants. In 5 days (maybe because of the heat in my zone) I got good roots! The heat + my homemade propagator box really do the trick! 🌱🌿🌱🌱

Very successful method. Thank you for sharing. Can we propagate Gaura Lindheim in the same way?

Hi Sarah. An excellent question and one which I haven’t done yet - propagating GAURA from cuttings. Gaura is one of my favourite perennials. The good news according to reputable sources: YES WE CAN propagate them the same way as propagating verbena from cuttings! Exciting stuff. Let me know when you do and how they turn out 😀🙋🏻‍♂️

Do you have seeds or you want to propagate through cuttings. Now is the time to prepare plants for next year. You can take cuttings and propagate as much for the remainder of the growing season. They’ll take root and bloom next year. Hope this helps!
