Speaking as a guitarist who wants to learn keyboards, this is really helpful. I wonder if you would consider extending this even further to show it as a gospel-style song (I'm thinking of the piano intro to Bridge over Troubled Water)! Many thanks for this channel - I'm now subscribed.

I'm glad the video proved helpful to you. I could try extending the idea further as you suggest. It turns out that Bridge Over Troubled Water was the first "pop" song I learned to play as a classically trained pianist.

Hello. I to am returning back to wanting to play piano after around 40 years. After about twenty professional lessons when I was twenty I learnd to memorise grade three peaces by my self but moved away to another country and then found it to be a lonely hobby. Learning with you and now 24/7 to say is a game changer, thank you for your free time you provide to us all. People would ask me back then to play this, that and the other but I could only play what I learned e.g. Moonlight Sinatra and around ten other peaces, so was boring to them. At 63 now I am looking to restart by wanting to learn basic runs first so to liven up my playing, then cords and pattens as no one told me this is how we progress, I just kept having to struggle with abcdefg etc. 'As with twinkle' can you show us 'Happy Birthday'. I would so like that to be my forty, forte' you know what I mean. I hope it will please and inspire my grand children to play, as I play for them on their Birthday's, anywhere and everywhere. The only problem I have as now I am on a sickness pention I can't aford to buy a piano as I once had a $5,000 Yamaha back in England 30 year ago, that I gave away 14 years back, so I have decided 'first' now to learn from you 'New Head Knowage', and reading the music differently than I did before, so I can tune up abit before the good Lord provides me a new waited piano, I pray, He is faithful. I also hope to send you blessings on paintron, as a labourer deserves his hire. I have subscribed and belled and liked, adding this comment too as I know it will help your Chanel to be seen as like I found you by being able to discover you, I pray all will do the same from now, it costs nothing but does so much, doesn't it. Thank you again. Philip. p.s I would not like a shoutout on patrion, thank you.

Excellent lesson, very enlightening in terms of harmony and chord progression. I'd honestly like you to make a part 2 of the very same song, with even more advanced (jazzy) ways to play it. Not just the chords, also the way the melody is played more creatively. Please....

Thank you for the music. I'm a 'returner at the age of 70+' I had music lessons as a child at 9 for a couple of years and lost interest. I truly regret this now as I return to the keyboard, so much has been lost in memory and opportunities to 'entertain' had I kept on with the music. I find your lessons refreshing and your explanations help me return to the keyboard. Twinkle Twinkle is a little dated but I understand why this music is chosen. As previous comments have mentioned, 'Bridge over troubled water' sounds potentially a nice alterative.

Lovely demo. Entertaining magic! I would expect beginners would soon discover they'd need to spend some hours drilling those chord changes, preferably while vocalizing the rhythm so they don't get to slow down when it's hard and speed up when it's easy. And if they plan on trying a second song by ear, they should stay in the key of C so they can make use of the chords they already know.

@@athomewithmusic8698 I just spent a blissful hour on versions one and two. My four years of training on feeling rhythm while practising all the way around the circle of fifths and this was still not quite as easy for me as you suggest, but I get that you're being encouraging and you know we can rewind. And rewind. I was happy playing the G7 as written, which you didn't mention, because G works.

Had two years piano lessons aged 11-13. Can't remember much about it apart from that it was starting to sound reasonable. Regret giving it up. Don't know what distracted me. Boys maybe lol. Anyway, 68 years old now, fiddled about on keyboard about 5 years now but getting nowhere really. Learnt how to play a few tunes and just keep playing them each time. Finding it very hard to learn sight reading. You're video is great! Can't wait to get started. I got a bit lost from about halfway through but l'll figure it out in time. The G7 threw me a bit, don't know what that means. Thankyou so much for taking the time to make this video. God bless. 💕

Jeremy ….if you have trouble try getting a keyboard with 88 keys or 61 minimum most have head phone jack you can plug head phones into which means you can play in peace and quiet anytime of night and not annoy neighbours etc , also they are not heavy to move like a piano and they need tuning , just a suggestion was all hope that helps as well at least to get playing , if you do decide keyboard, research them before buying ie …a children’s keyboard is not the same , for example small keys not normal sized keys which is what you want on a keyboard any way what ever you decide all the best with your music endeavour.🙏

Ah, a gem! Thank you very much. Practice will take some time, so for now one question from the theory -- in first step when you added block chords, I already heard it is based on "what sounds good", but how to narrow "mathematically" possible chords what could possible fit well. For example in the second measure it starts with "a" note, you pick "F". But that "F" didn't come from 1000 possible chords (I hope 🙂) but from smaller "basket" of choices. So how to find out the basket? As for answering your end question from simple song and spicing it Marry had little lamb in ragtime style (or bossa-nova) this would be excellent. As for breaking down and putting back pieces, the selection is too big, but nobody will complain I guess about Beatles song -- Lady Madonna would be great.

Thanks for your feedback. Choosing the chords to go with a melody is often a matter of trial and error. And sometimes the "errors" end up sounding interesting! Also, thanks for your suggestions for simple songs to work with.
