+Nik Telio - I don't believe so. The glues that I've seen on these things appears to be some sort of solvent cement, which bonds as much by dissolving the plastic mating surfaces into each other as it does by its own dried substance.
@PracticaProphetica2 жыл бұрын
@@Inflec That sounds a bit like model cement. "Tube Glue or Model Cement is a gel-like substance that contains a chemical, such as Toluene, that when applied to the joining surfaces of a plastic model forms a membrane that bonds the two surfaces together."
@Inflec2 жыл бұрын
@@PracticaProphetica - That is certainly very similar. But I think what is used to seal up a wall wart is something much closer to the sort of cement that plumbers use to join PVC pipe. It works the way I described in my previous post. The solvent component of the cement dissolves the top layer of plastic on both mating surfaces, causing the two pieces of plastic to literally weld themselves together. The bulk component that dries solid adds strength to the bond.

@@i3_13 you don't, you just buy a new one. If you want to find out what failed then what I'll do is put it on a hard surface and use a hammer on the side and the welds will eventually break. This typically also damages other components inside though.

What glue did you use to put it back together afterwards?
@NikTelio5 жыл бұрын
Hello, i usually use super glue
@markanne545 жыл бұрын
Do you not find that superglue doesn't really stick to these types of plastics? It always seems to eventually fall off. I would think something like straight Acetone would be better as it would melt the plastics together, maybe?
@AS-ug2vq5 жыл бұрын
@@markanne54 sand the surface rough before applying cynoacrolate
@Inflec5 жыл бұрын
+markanne54 - Superglue is iffy with this sort of repair because the parts are rough and usually don't fit together smoothly which allows this type of glue to develop its strongest bond. If I have to open one of these things I generally just put it back together with some stiff tape that doesn't shrink, since there's a good chance it will have to come apart again at some point in the future.
