I have overseeded on uncut lawn. I then ran the rake over to allow the seeds to drop further into contact with the soil. I then walked the area then watered it. A lot to allow the seed to run further into the soil.

Great video to start this years lawn care, I'm on very heavy clay so my north facing front lawn is always mossy and back south facing lawn is rock hard in summer. I've now ordered some lawn sand so fingers crossed it will start to help both lawns. Thanks Robbie.

I find pelleted chicken manure very good, natural and long lasting. Simply makes the grass grow thick, vigorous and green which seems to choke out weeds and moss. Can always give the very mossy areas a rake over. 😊

Do you have a video about fertilizers and weed control? Very Interested to hear how turf is cared for where you are versus here in the US. The Lawn Sand is a neat idea. It sounds like you are limited on what chemicals to control weeds. Would be great to have a gorgeous lawn and cut down on the less desirable weed killing products

@@richd1047 usually i recommend putting the iron on afterwards, but lawn sand works really well putting it on first then doing the work. But that's not set in stone, you can do it the other way around. Or you can put it on before and after haha!

A bit of common sense and you should be grand, keep the kids and dogs off it until water the product has been watered in and you should be grand

You can't seed seeds and weeds at the same time. If your lawn has a lot of weeds, deal with them first.

hey Robbie! I'm after some advice and you were the first guy I thought of after your sound recommendation of work boots. 👌 Mulch mowers and doing a mulch cut as opposed to a bag cut; makes sence that muchling the lawn would help re feed the lawn with cut grass decomposing etc. BUT then surely thatch enters the equations? so is mulching bad for your lawn? what are your thoughts?

Mulch mowers do not necessarily increase thatch buildup, but they can contribute to it , if you are not cutting your lawn on a regular basis and mulching If the grass is cut too short or if the mulch is not spread evenly, it can build up and contribute to thatch buildup over time. However, if the grass is cut at the proper height and the mulch is spread evenly, mulch mowing can actually help to reduce thatch buildup by adding organic matter to the soil and promoting healthy microbial activity.

Hiya Robbie, been watching your videos for a while now. Would you recommend using lawn sand as soon as a year after turf has been laid in a new build? Or just mix seed through with compost and do a good overseed? There’s a couple of mossy patches but nothing extreme. Plenty of areas of discolouration right enough (no pets etc)

I have been watching your videos for a while now and they are brilliant mate. Followed your tip on scarifying ect and removed alot of the thatch. Moss is an issue with my garden. If I use the product you mentioned, it will no doubt kill the rest which is less and turn black. What would you recommend to re seed my garden? I'm in the west of Scotland and the garden is about 12m long x 5m wide on a slight decline

I have used lawn sand on my lawn and i can see the moss is going black. The weeds, however, are resisting and are looking as green as ever. Should I apply lawn sand again? Last year I dug up quite a few of the weeds, but they're back!

The lawn sand can burn the weeds too. It tends to need to sit on the weeds for a while to do it

@@kimberlyrogers9953 I used to sell horse manure, you could give that a go to make a few quid on the side It's undoubtedly a middle-class thing as you need to have a horse. The poor people can't afford them. Also great on your veg, but best to wash them before eating it

Something like this... Weight the product and put the correct amount into the spreader for the given area Set the spreader to a low output settings and go over the with more passes until the spreader is empty For larger spaces, break it up into multiple sections.

Great channel. The lawn sand instructions say do not cut grass for 3 days before treatment. It seems you cut and applied lawn sand the same day. Is it ok to do that?

Dave, I always say follow the instructions first, and KZfaq second. A lot of it will depend on the state of your lawn, is it more moss than grass for example. A few people have asked the exact same question. I always cut it beforehand and have not had any issues, but you should follow the instructions on the packet. As I couldn't tell you to cut it and apply on the same day as I know nothing about your lawn.

Chafers are a nightmare to control as there isn't much in the way of chemical control This time of year sweating them out is probably your bet

I have a total lack of understanding for English lawn practices. Firstly, why are you mulching the clippings? You're fertilizing while also...removing fertilizer. The clippings are the best thing for the lawn in Spring... and throughout the year. Sand...and Ammoinium Sulphate... what? Sand isn't a carrier.. its a filler and more so used as top dressing to level. It does nothing to "carry" ammonium. If you want a carrier for ammonium, it would need to be a carbon based carrier. Compost / humic acid based. Ammonium is positively charged! Carbon... negatively charged. Sand - no charge. The ammonium will leach or volatize in not time. The sulfur does not kill the moss, the iron does. It overloads the the plant with more than it can handle which causes leaf necrosis. The iron oxidies on the leaf, draws water out and kills it. You could just spray chelated iron or frankly, wait for the sun to burn the moss off the lawn. It won't take long. This company making lawn sand must be making an absolute killing - sand... and ammonium sulphate. Why the hell didn't I think of this!?! lol. Turf does not, NOT need help getting going in the spring. The soil has more moitsure and oxygen than it will for the entire year. All you need to do is mow it regularly to induce growth allow it to develop deep roots and build its carbohydrates stores. Mowing regularly is going to cut down the apical stem, forcing bud and shoot growth. The process is called Apical Dominance and is controlled by the hormone, Auxin.
