I just spent two hours searching on KZfaq for a video that would teach me how to do this and they were all ridiculously difficult ranging from making my own projector to using a polyacrylic and that kind of thing. This is EXACTLY what I was looking for, easy..straight to the point and you are still essentially drawing the image yourself not printing it on. Thank you for this, as an artist this has just changed the game for my next piece :)

Thank you. The simplest ideas can be the best ones. I love this method as most people have the materials for it laying around the house. And if you put down just a basic outline it still allows you to have creative freedom

This is what I've done.... but pro tip... find graphite sticks. They're like charcoal sticks for artists but just graphite. SOOOO much easier (and if you don't want to get it on your hand, wrap some paper around it and hold it with tape. Also use tape to hold the paper on the wood so it doesn't move. 👍🏼

Make sure you're using B pencils, cause H pencils won't really show. A 6b should do a great job.

@Emperor Donald J Trump Pencils have a hardness rating. Artists who sketch use a range of pencil hardiness. B# is on the soft side of the range and H# is on the hard side. Hard gives you lighter, tighter lines, and soft is darker and more of a fuzzy line.

Hi Jack. Just starting to dabble with this medium. Got myself a rotary tool & a cheap wood burner (solder iron type) just to see how I like it. Been doing lots of YT video watching to get a bit of learning in before I start. I’m Glasgow based so good to find a fellow Scot. Loving your videos. Subscribed. Keep it UP!

I'd seen this technique mentioned in a other video, but thankyou for explaining it so clearly. My only criticism is the music/production value, when low, it's as loud as your voice, and when high, I was lowering the volume until you spoke again, Maybe a clearer mic or some volume levelling would really help improve the overall presentation.

I do mine by just placing carbon copy paper underneath mine and just draw the picture and it transfers over to the wood. I guess it's kinda like this but I get way more detail. It just works better for me my way!

I do the same but the one downside is you need to use sandpaper to remove if you want as it won't erase. I'm just starting but may try graphite sticks so I can erase. I may have 100 carbon sheets available if you need any. 🙂
