In Poland a very similar camo like you said was used since 1959 until 1969 when it was replaced for another eastern block camo called "Mora". My grandfather was issued with it when he was serving Polish army in 1961. It was called "deszczyk" which means rain.

If you are close enough to see the needles, you are way too close to the badly-camoflaged dude with the AK. Looks like terrible camo to me.

@jaysleezy5464 interesting piece of pointless knowledge. The DDR officials actually argued moral superiority in having a camo that doesn't work outside their borders as it proofes that their military is only for defending the homeland, not for imperialistic ambition

Colloquial we (east germans) call it 'Ein Strich kein Strich' (one dash no dash). The winter jackets were often used by construction workers for their warmth and ruggedness and the low price.

I had the Strichtarn rucksack for years, used it as a range bag for my ammo and cleaning gear when I used to own an M44 Mosin Nagant

When I was stationed in West Berlin in the American sector 1/89-1/93 I remember seeing East German soldiers in that uniform after unification I had former East German soldiers who where good friends of mine and one gave me a uniform which I sadly got it stolen.

East German here. To be correct, the helmet cover was an official helmet cover, not a hood. It even has a mosquito net attached. Interestingly, these helmet covers were not used in field exercises. There was a helmet net for that use.

The Czechoslovak version was called Vz. 60 "jehličí" (pine leaf) The way to tell them apart is that the Czechoslovak camo has brown spot pattern under the "raindrops", but it got worn off easily, so nowdays it looks like slightly darker green spots on the light green background

The uniforms are very comfortable and don’t mind the off the wall tan and brown camouflage. I have gotten a bunch of 4 mag AK pouches that are East German and a few Czech. It’s worth buying

I use the strichtarn backpack for carrying my stuff to work, I've seen it's surprisingly effective in woodlands.

A lot of East German surplus boots and helmets wound up in Croatia during their war of independence. They also made heavy use of East German produced buttons.

Little fun fact, in man in the high Castle they actually have some of the German soldiers wear this type of camo. Thought it was pretty neat.

I wished their equipment and weapons would make more sense. Later on the Germans had Strykers and Mi-24s for some reason AKs exist (made by China they say).

I have been wearing a padded winter jacket rain pattern jacket since the early 90. It is great work jacket. Warm, comfy and is just great. Go buy one from Mike.

I was lucky enough to get the green color scheme ones, it's actually quite comfortable and warm that I wear the jacket whenever I go outside. I'm currently making a East German border guards gear

In South Africa we called it 'Chinese Rice Cammo'. Some East Germans were wearing it in Angola. I bought a surplus winter jacket with the padded undercoat which was not needed in our milder winters. Really great jacket.

I have an ammo bag with this exact pattern which was a gift from my brother to use for shotgun shells. I knew it was from the era and assumed it was Soviet, but the more you know.

The helmet covers were factory made, there was no such thing as a Strichtarn parka Between 1965-1967 however the helmet covers could be buttoned to the field uniform to act as a hood but very rarely done

The german Nickname for this is: Ein Strich Kein Strich (one stroke-no stroke) used to be dirtcheap here but has become rare and especially in greater sizes hard to find

Always wondered how they came up with this pattern. is it supposed to blend in with... branches? Grass, pine trees? the comor scheme and pattern doesn't really make any sense for any terrain (although it's not completely terrible either, you won't be sticking out at least, but not blending in either really)

I was stationed in Germany during and after the wall fell. Those uniforms as well as Soviet uniforms where dirt cheap. Wish I still had all the uniforms I collected.

I got a bunch of old pouches for webbing I was building and it came with a bag sort of thing in that camo and I was gonna sell it but it’s gone up in value because of Ukraine so I’ll keep it until I find a serious buyer

Its called ,,Flächentarn", not Flachtarn. Meaning is quite different :p I also heard the camo referred as esks(ein-Strich kein-Strich)
