India,Haven't heard these songs in years, just look at the energy. 1965, The Easybeats were the hottest act in Australia. When the Rolling Stones toured Australia in '65 The Easybeats were the support act. At the end of the tour Mick Jagger said, " Man, that group really made us work." David Bowie was an Easybeats fan he recorded a version of Friday on my mind. Cheers, Chris Perry.

@@ryoung1519 1967-1969: Following up "Friday on My Mind", Easy Come, Easy Go and the scrapped album On 17 March 1967, United Artists released the follow-up single to "Friday on My Mind"; "Who'll Be The One". The single was a commercial failure and did not make the UK charts (although it was No. 14 in Australia). The band was against releasing the single to begin with, as they felt it was not a strong enough track to follow "Friday on My Mind". Later that month, they toured Europe in support of The Rolling Stones. so..... Ainsley was a couple of years out, but he was still more correct than you.

George Young's success with the Easybeats inspired his younger brothers Malcolm and Angus to form their own band - AC/DC. And George helped his brothers in the early days with getting them gigs and studio time and producing some of their early recordings. Without The Easybeats, we may never have gotten AC/DC.

"She's So Fine" was the first hit for the Easybeats in 1965. After 15 Top hits in Australia, they left to go to England in mid 1966, which explains why the clip for "Friday On My Mind" was done for French television. Unfortunately, they never had the international success that they had in Australia, and the group returned to Australian in 1969 and broke up shortly afterwards.

I have an interesting story, my older brother used to work with the drummer of the easybeats, Snowy Fleet, he's a great bloke. The funny part, my brother was a fan of the easybeats, yet didn't know that one of his mates was in the band. I was in the car with him (circa 1995) and friday on my mind comes on, he's singing away, at the end of the song I said to "Jamie, you know that Snowy was in the easybeats, yeah?" He almost ran the car of the road he was that stunned, he went and asked Snowy about it, sure enough he rings me that evening to tell me about it. I still chuckle about it all these years later. My brother is 60 this year, I might bring it up at his birthday.

The Easybeats were legendary in Australia. At their peak in the mid-60s, they actually outsold the Beatles. Friday on My Mind was their only international hit, partially because their early records were never released internationally.., Led singe Stevie Wright, unfortunately, =, had a tragic life, including drug addiction, mental illness, and questionable therapy. He had a bief comeback in the early 70s before relapsing, and spent the rest spent almost 30 years in and out of therapy before getting clean. The band was organized by guitarists George Young and Harry Vanda at an immigrant's tem0irary housing camp outside of Sydney. After the Easybeats broke up, they became a songwriting/production team, and, in the 80s, released several albums of new wave music that they couldn't get others to do under the name Flash and the Pan. Among the Vanda/Young production credits were AC/DC;s first two albums. They had the inside track for the gig, as George was Malcolm and Angus' brother.

I was only 1 when this happened, yet I still got to hear them heaps, as hit songs lasted for ages on the radio back in the 50's 60's and 70's. Australia's father of rock from the 50's, was Johnny O'Keefe and had a few great hits like 'she's my baby' and 'wild one', which Iggy pop did a remake of, in the late 70's.

The Easybeats are simply major pioneers in Australian rock n roll. Not only Stevie Wright the lead singer but the Base and rhythm guitarist. Harry Vanders and George Young. These 2 mega Wright's produced were mentioned in Dire Straits Sultanas of Swing they are guitar George and Harry with the daytime job. As well as right for the Easybeats including both these songs they wrote for Stevie wright including Evie 1,2 and 3. This 11-minute song is pure brilliants. Then they started writing and producing for George's little brother's band AC/DC. Vanders and Young were also song by or covered after. Easybeats, Stevie Wright, AC/DC, David Bowie, Gary Moore, Richard Thompson, Inxs, Jimmy Barnes, Mick Furber, Flake, The Wright's, Suzi Quatro, Sir Rod Stewart , John Paul Young, Bay City Rollers, Rose Tatoo, Grace Jones, Duke Jupiter, Mark Williams, Meatloaf. Judith Durham and the Seeker. They produced bands like AC/DC, Stevie Wright, Ted Mulry Gang, Rose Tatoo, Cheetah, William Shakespeare, Mark Williams, and The Angels.

You need to view this in relation to the other groups of the time and that music played on television was in its infancy. Look at the early performances of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones on TV. This was the mid Sixties and all of the group were migrants from Britain, Scotland, and Holland who came to Australia in the late fifties early sixties with their families and met each other in the migrant accommodation camps that were used before transitioning into the main population of Australia.

I guess in Australia they were the closest thing to our version of The Beatles. Unfortunately the singer Stevie Wright messed himself up with heroin addiction. He did have a big solo hit in the mid 70s with "Evie". Other members included Harry Vanda and George Young (brother of Malcolm and Angus Young from AC/DC) who wrote and produced hits for many other artists and had some success in the late 70s to mid 80s with their own band Flash and the Pan.

Fun stuff. Another working group, solid hit. It shows up in movies and TV every so often. What get me is the song is strong, and how would it look if performed live in, say, 1985? And the other one? I think you played a medley of their hit.

This f$&@&n song deserves more cred. It so fun! But it’s Australian. Against American radio rules. Meaning it wasn’t made here. We’re not playing it 😔

What? This song played in the USA in its day. What American rules are you talking about?

@@guymontag9577 I should’ve cleared up my meaning but for the last 20 years or more, American radio has focused less and less on music outside of the US

How does that explain the British acts in the US ? they probably sold more records than the American acts. The Easybeats and AC/DC never took out Australian citizenship either btw ,they kept their British passports , in the 90s a big push by aussie media made them take Australian citizenship then.

I'm not sure but I think the second performance was from a Show called National Bandstand that Olivia Newton-John and The Bee Gees made their TV Debut on. I sometimes wonder if Australian Executives snuck into America and watched The US Music Shows of that time. American Bandstand, Where The Action Is, Hollywood A Go Go, Hullaballoo, Shindig, Shivaree, The Lloyd Thaxton Show (Who would create Tiger Beat in 1965) and The Hollywood Palace They looked like they copied the Formula. The Ladies who were dancing in back of them were similar to the Ladies who danced on Hollywood A Go Go (whose dancers were Playboy Playmates), Hullaballoo, Shindig, and Where The Action Is where they had professional backing dancers.
