Totally true... I bought a quartz Tag Heuer from Japan and the bill came to 20% more expensive than the listing price once the FedEx and custom fees were added, quite the surprise! Next time I visit your shop I'll make sure to properly introduce myself. Glad to see you make these videos 😀

Going to Japan from Scotland, I’m looking to buy a vintage vacheron constantin .I take it I will not be paying the local tax as a tourist and no import duty as I’m buying local?

You will save 10% taxes when you buy to export it but if the Scottish customs catch you not declaring it at your point of entrance you might be subject to seizure and/or import penalties. There is always that risk.

You have to factor in the 10% tax discount which in most cases is the margin on higher end watches. Also some dealers may have a special dial or NOS watch at the same price as a regular one or just a bit higher. That little detail makes or breaks a potential bargain. You definitely need to know what you are doing. The chrono24 listings are also giving in some cases an advantage over luxury stores as the ch24 sellers may not have a physical store therefore their prices may reflect the overhead.
