About this Video:
We understand OCD is nothing short of exhausting. All those negative thoughts and compulsions can completely drain us of our energy. That single thought can continue throughout the day, leaving us tired and frustrated. On days such as these, we desperately crave for a bit of peace of the mind.
When we try to close our eyes and sleep, the anxious mind does not let us. Stopping the mind from racing becomes an impossible task. Its times such as these, when we turn to alcohol for some relief.
When we have a couple of drinks, the impact of OCD starts reducing as we begin to get intoxicated. We find comfort in the bottle as we can get that much needed time to breathe and relax.
The problem caused by alcohol begins the next morning. When we wake up, we feel sluggish and heaviness in the head.
The stress caused by OCD already increases our body’s acidic levels, and alcohol increases it even further. This acidic increase is the reason obsessions and compulsions drastically increase the next day.
These negative side effects last up to 48 hours in the body and mind.
In many extreme cases, some people turn to alcohol as soon as the effects begin to wear off. In a desperate attempt to calm down their racing minds, they land up drinking in the afternoon and sometimes even in the morning.
We have to understand that alcohol is not a permanent solution to OCD. In reality, it will only make OCD worst. It does not matter if one drinks for a week, month, or years altogether - OCD will not go away with alcohol. It will take you two steps back, every time you pick up a drink.
As discussed earlier, OCD is an imbalance of the conscious and subconscious mind. Things like smoking, extra spicy foods, sweet foods, and alcohol give more strength to your subconscious mind. Think of all these things as a gang of bullies just waiting to attack you.
So if you drink, it’s time to look at it from a mental health perspective.
Try quitting for a week, ten days, or even a month, and we guarantee that you will see a significant drop in the severity of your OCD. If you consume it very regularly, we understand that leaving it instantly would be very tough and not even advisable. So, try to limit your consumption to maybe once or twice a week and not more than 2-3 drinks per session.
This restraint from alcohol will ensure that your OCD does not go beyond a particular limit.
