Maar in general as well as Eifel Maars are caused by a phreatomagmatic eruption. A maar characteristically fills with water to form a relatively shallow crater lake which may also be called a maar.
Having said that, this is the place that we wanted to visit when we went to explore Eifel National Park in Germany for the first time. I remember taking an oath to visit this volcanic place and active volcanic lakes of Germany.
It was an awesome experience with no so dreamy ending as we expected.
