Sometimes I feel like a heroin addict, I mean, like I wish I wasn't forever chasing that memory of playing morrowind for the first time again. That first hit... mucking around in some swamp shedding my travails and then a fucking fishy or a cliff racer brings the battle music. Sublime.

When I played Morrowind for the first time when I was 17 I stumbled into balmora ignoring the main quest, because it sounded like the most interesting place to go first. I just followed the road signs until I got here and it was so cozy immersive and dreamlike that I actually spent the rest of my playtime just hanging out here getting to know the people and watching NPCs go around their business walking around, the atmosphere in this one location is just perfect, it has such a nice cozy vibe and makes you feel right at home in such an alien world especially when you finally meet Cosades, I actually started making his room into my own little home and started piling up all the pillows I could find on the bed and around Cosades himself and it was such a good time. I wish ANY game these days allowed that level of immersion. As a young man who's 22 (I know it's been only 5 years but I've grown a lot in this time) it's crazy to look back and see how far Skywind has developed and I can't wait to revisit Balmora again in HD, it can't come out soon enough.

it'll never happen unfortunately. elder scrolls is too mainstream now. they have to cater to the masses, which means fully voice acted dialogue (which sucks, because it eats up file size and makes it impractical and costly to add directions and lore in dialogue [remember how much the guard captain has to say to you before you step out into seyda neen a free man?]) which means they can't afford to give directions to quests anymore they mostly just rely on pointing you to shit directly with the compass, and fast travel takes away any sort of connection to the world- "just turn off fast travel" the quests are designed for fast travel- they're designed with zero actual travel put into thought and thus would far beyond tedious and into the realm of torturous. they'll never try to do hit chance combat again, because people are too dumb to realize it's a role playing game and "da sword hit da guy" is the only thing they think when they miss. i could go on for hours.. unfortunately..

Most of the team that made Morrowind have left the company unfortunately. Kenshi has a very similar vibe, and should be getting a sequel in the next few years.

It took me 4 attempts to get into Morrowind. Between the cliff racers, walking speed and combat mechanics I kept getting frustrated, but on my 4th attempt I came to appreciate the slower pace of the game and actually enjoyed having to research old books to find a vague description of the location of some ruin or other. Despite its age, I've never had such an immersive experience in a game. I collected and read just about every lore book there was.

You know, I have a similar issue. The only time when I actually completed the main quest was when I was still in school. Back then I barely knew English, so it's basically a miracle that I managed to "finish" the game. I've made a lot of attempts to conquer the game since then, but each time I dropped it before doing that. I like being on the Dunmer island and exploring it. But the dated mechanics absolutely kill the vibe for me. But you know what, I am playing Daggerfall (Unity) now and I'm beginning to understand Morrowind. Hopefully, after finishing the second part of the Elder Scrolls I will be able to finally dive into the adventure on Vvardenfell.

@@QUIESTAmbience Once you get to a high enough level the combat is no longer frustrating and you can just plow through everything but I would highly recommend installing a sprint mod. I played on the original engine with the overhaul mod and the graphics were actually beautiful. I came across less glitches and performance issues than modern BGS games.
@QUIESTAmbience
@QUIESTAmbience Жыл бұрын
@@TheGr8scott Yeah, I'll use sprint mod for sure (I think I used Alex's Running Without Fatigue the last time I played). Btw, in Daggerfall fighting becomes pretty much trivial when you max your strength and speed, so I guess Morrowind works the same. As for the engine, I prefer to use OpenMW nowadays, since it fixes a lot of stuff too and the game looks good even without any overhauls or ENBs (plus, it's easy to install).

@@Thedisciplemike True. But it's still a type of fast travel that instantly teleports you to a location (that you have to find and pay for, as you said). Fast travel (in Oblivion and Skyrim) isn't that bad tbh. You can always choose to just not use it. Idc that much about it, if it's there or not lol.

The resonant moan of the silt strider, the litter patter of the rainfall the Dunmer are so used to... We entered their world for a time being, a sleeper among the rest, until our dreams subside and we face the stark truth of reality. Just found this video, it really gives me nostalgic feelings, the moment when you stepped of that boat at the beginning of the game, the for that time spectacular water, the music and foggy towns and landscapes, the strange creatures, cultures and communities.... May i ask why you don't create ambience videos anymore?
@QUIESTAmbience
@QUIESTAmbience 2 жыл бұрын
Hey, glad you liked the video, thanks :) Well, I've had some reasons for that. First and the most important is the "speclial military operation" (can't say word from three letters anymore, or you go to jail -___- ). When it started I've just pretty much lost any ability to do creative stuff. I just can't. My life plans are ruined, so I just live day by day now. Work is the only thing that kind of saves me. Plus to that, my videocard died and a new one costed me a lot (I'm not rich and I pretty much don't have any savings, so buying a new one sucked). So yeah. Not sure when I'll make a new video. I just don't want to. At least right now. So, yeah. Fuck ***s and people who start them. P.S. Thanks for asking, btw.
