They mastered space travel They have a grasp on genetic engineering eons beyond humans They went head to head against The Spawn of Cthulhu and the Great Race of Yith (respectively a race ruled by a god and a race that can travel through time like its nothing) But they have trouble with central heating?

@@CathayanMagus Lovecraft used the word "decadent" very frequently during the Mountains of Madness, he strongly implied that the race degenerated over the millions of years of their history, losing much of their technology and even certain biological functions. Though how this would happen when their species is essentially immortal is beyond me.

I find the Elder Things so oddly adorable, and I don't just mean physically. In At the Mountains of Madness I find their behaviour in a way kind of cute in a morbid manner like how they crudely dissect the dog and person either in an act of revenge for one of their own being dissected, or because they're just curious beings due to them being intelligent so wanting to understand how things function. And also when they just ate a bunch of canned food. In general the whole interaction with humans after they woke up was amusing.

I really like the fact that they are a animal plant hybrid who can create different forms of life forms. They created the shagoths which can change they're bodies to do different tasks, but then on the pinnacle of they're civilization, they lost knowledge, I didn't get why tbh. Is there any story that talks about that? Or it was just the ice age?

Elder things are by far my favorite creatures in lovecraft. They’re the most understandable, since they display intelligence and human-like behavior. I feel like they’re the one thing we could actually coexist with, so long as they don’t try to take over humanity.
@jonileivo1537
@jonileivo1537 4 жыл бұрын
Why Elder Things are actually one of the scariest creatures, is that they seem like relatable. They seem they are similar to humankind but assuming that would be a grave error. The mere physiology is so magnificently alien to us that we could not hope to understand why they are what they are, and do what they do. They are ancient beyond belief and posess technology aeons ahead of us, supposed creators of humankind (as well as most fauna), plant-fungi-animal hybrid thing, communication through (what it seems to humans) "singing", senses beyond our comprehension, and lastly the five lobed structure, including their brains, that make their concept of individual and society totally strange. Don't get fooled or you're done.

When ever I hear and read about the Elder things I think of the Elder sign an how it might be related to them in some form. like a ancient cease fire agreement, or even a ward/protection developed by them to protect themselves an their allies from other races or the cosmic horrors. The Elder things might be about the only beings strong enough, and old enough that could develop that without being aligned with the Elder gods.

The Elder Things seamed to be a stand in for the English that came over to America, they were fleeing an increasingly industrialized home, they made a world (nation), were beset on many sides by hostile forces, had slaves (who rebelled). In addition, they had some aspects of a human mind set, with curiosity and even did scientific tests in the stories.

i have a theory that the elder things and shoggoths inspired the Precursors and the Flood from Halo. The precursors had a ton of advanced gene manipulation technology, and the flood are fairly amorphous in form because they're carried in the form of invasive cells that can take the form of different cells in your body, replacing them one by one until you're destroyed, similar to how the shoggoths can change form. The Flood also have a form of collective consciousness called Neurophysics, and the Elder Things used hypnosis and telepathy to control the shoggoths, which meant the shoggoths had to be able to receive those telepathic orders and respond in kind.

I know the Deep Ones did call themselves Deep Ones based on _The Shadow Over Innsmouth_ while the Yithians from _The Shadow Out of Time_ called themselves the "Great Race", and other Cthulhu Mythos authors dubbed Cthulhu's star spawn either the Cthulhi or Xothians.

All that's fine apparently but the weird and harder to eliminate reproduction suddenly means something about him personally... @vampyruslupus9950

possible but unlikely. The tekeli-li arrived on Pangea before life evolved and disappeared almost as soon as the Ice Age hit, and starfish have been found as early as the ordivician period. The timeline just doesnt add up. Now if some environmental factors had prevented some spores from fully developing, causing them to be stuck and a starfish-like larval stage, then i suppose the theory could hold water. but again, very unlikely

Wouldn't it make more sense that they genetically engineered themselves, since they have technology, but don't actually need it? The majority of tech advancements are to satisfy needs, so it makes sense to me that they'd be more of leftovers, like the telegraph.

Possibly cause of his fear of the ocean helped sculpted the idea of these mythos. Maybe from the ideas of squids and what's below sea level inspired the look
