What do you mean by "before the affair" when you speak about Washington and Hamilton?
@clorissamorgan83448 жыл бұрын
Alexander Hamilton had an affair and published the Reynolds pamphlet with letters and stuff written to him from the woman's husband. He cheated on his wife with this woman while her husband blackmailed Hamilton to keep it quiet. He tried to be honorable or some crap like that basically destroying his career. So he had a lot of influence before the affair.

You didnt say who one the popular vote. This was also important.
@glupinacci6 жыл бұрын
Marie with an E - I don't think most states (if any) back then held popular votes for president. It was (and technically still is - for many states) constitutionally irrelevant. The US constitution allow for states to delegate their allotted electoral votes to prez election by any means they wish. Only through time did state electors begin basing their state casted electoral votes based on the outcome of the popular vote of their state. Currently about 30-35 states have state laws on their books REQUIRES by state statute that the electoral votes of their state MUST cast their electoral votes based on the popular vote outcome of their state. The other 20-25 states the electors there cast their votes by outcome of their state popular votes by tradition, public expectation and people would freak out & not understand if they didn't. There still are occasional "faithless electors" who cast their electoral vote against the wishes of the popular vote outcome of their state. Yes your vote counts - just not as the aggregate nation wide - your vote counts on each state by state popular vote outcome.

The and Peggy of the group No. Aaron Burr challenged Hamilton to a duel after the latter sabotaged his attempt to run for Governor when it was clear Jefferson was not going to allow Burr to be his running mate for a second term. Keep in mind also that Hamilton had been essentially running a smear campaign against Burr ever since Burr ( a democratic-republican) had won the Senate seat that Phillip Schyler (a supporter of both Fedralism and Hamilton himself) had previously held.

Every Tea Party/Paul ideologue should take the time to learn the nuances that make up our history. We hear rants about what the founders intended...a closer examination reveals that there was no single intent or defining ideology. We see that centralized power was, from the start, supported by many who are touted today as small government freedom fighters; they fought for and supported freedom but understood that oversight against bad actors is required. Real history is getting tossed aside

The sitting HR would NOT choose the POTUS today. That was fixed by the Twentieth Amendment.
