Nice, I've been writing for this video! Mostly as an excuse re-read the Silmarillion again😅

It’s funny, I’ve always heard people say that The Silmarillion is a harder read than The Hobbit and TLotR, but I find it much easier to follow along than those other two works. Admittedly, I read more nonfiction than fiction, and it reads like a nonfiction book, so maybe that’s why I find it easier to follow.

That’s interesting! Well, I guess there’s always different approaches and perspectives to the “difficulties” of a book. I’m glad to hear your reading experience of The Silmarillion wasn’t as arduous as many others’ 😅

I am puzzled in Chapter 4 at how Ëlwe saw the light of the trees if he remained in Nan Elmoth. “Elwë Singollo came never again across the sea to Valinor.” The ‘again’ has me confused as I read that as he did travel to Aman. I thought perhaps it was just the light in the face of Melian but then chapter 5 states, “Greatly though he had desired to see again the light of the Trees, in the face of Melian he beheld the light of Aman as in an unclouded mirror, and in that light he was content.” Maybe it comes up later in the narrative but, did Elwë travel to Valinor whilst in his trance?

You’re absolutely right. One of the things I didn’t mention here is that when the Elves awaken, they elect three ambassadors who go with Orome to Aman, before returning back to encourage the rest to start the Great Journey. Elwe was indeed one of these ambassadors, and once the journey begins, he drifts towards Doriath and there meets Melian.

Hi! A question unrelated to the video (sorry!): have you any videos on artwork books about Tolkien's work? I am considering buying one or more illustration books about Silmarillion and TLOTR (not editions with illustrations, but books of ONLY illustrations, without the story), and would like to see opinions before hands. I have been looking in your channel, but I cannot find any. Do you collect illustration books? Any recommendation?

I had made a book review on the Pictures Of J R R Tolkien, along with the Art of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings (respectively), which may be of interest to you. They should be somewhere in this channel 🙂
