@@gracieg7601 yes I knew that is why the Colonel ran him off. However, I have never read or heard that Larry tried to convince Elvis that music wasn't what he wasn't meant to do, in fact Elvis was having those doubts on his own and was having thoughts that maybe there was something more important he was meant to do, and Larry was able to reassure Elvis that he could reach more people through his music and do more good in that way than any other. Elvis actually thought about being a monk for a short time. Which MM member said this and is it in a book or a documentary?
@catwhiskers1919

@Doug Dickason agree. I think the Colonel and some other people didn't like Larry because he presented a threat to the MM in terms of taking Elvis' time, and discussing subjects with him that others didn't understand.

I like Larry, he and Elvis had a great spiritual connection, Larry was a great friend to Elvis and was the last person to say goodbye to Elvis, the last man to touch him at his service, he touched his Forehead before his coffin closed. I understand the need Elvis had, he was Awakening to his souls purpose . I’m glad Larry appeared during this time for Elvis . They helped each other in ways that only spiritual awakened individuals understand⚡️🙏❤️. Thanks for sharing .

I do feel Larry is a good man, and truly cared for the well being of Elvis. To Elvis Larry must have seemed like a kindred spirit, especially compared to the rest of that gang. It's hard to comprehend at this point in time to who really cared about Elvis and who didn't. The one thing that bothers me the most is the book burning incident. However, I'm sure Elvis replaced all he had to burn.

Wow, Steve, what a coup you got here, Larry has a voice that just makes you sit up and listen. Larry truely was a kindred soul, he was the lost key that allowed Elvis to unlock his mind, no one around him had taken the time or even wanted to explore that side of him before. The guys around Elvis were never and could never have understood Elvis,s needs and yearnings to open himself up mind body and soul, with Larry it sounds like he could do just that. They both clearly enriched each others lives, feeding off each other, often being ridiculed and scorned for their closeness and deep spiritual, religious and interlectual yearnings. An inquisitive mind should never be starved, Elvis truely was a complexity of multi faceted brilliance, and it went way beyond his artistic prowess, it was the essence of his very being, Larry connected with that complexity immediately, and evoked a deep and meaningful reaction within Elvis,s inner psyche. I cannot wait for part two Steve. Thanks.

Such an engaging interview with Larry Geller, Steve. I could listen to Larry all day talking about Elvis. Yes, in the 1960s exploring other religions outside of Christianity was frowned upon, but it just shows what a caring, lovable, enquiring mind that Elvis had in exploring other spiritual avenues. A really good interview, Steve, looking forward to Part 2 of your interview with Larry Geller next Wednesday.

Helen Elvis never once lost his faith in Christianity and the Bilke.He recorded his gospel albums near the time he met Larry. About those other religions, Elvis knew that many great thinkers encompassed many religions.They had great knowledge in matters of life and the spirit. Elvis used these religious and philosophical books to understand himself, man, human nature, core values to live by and the order of the universe. Anybody can havve interests in learnong about other religions and simultaneously be a devout Christian as Elvis was. He was a born again Christian and a faith healer.He practically knew the entire Bible by heart.For a fan to know Elvis the man and not the image, he has to know the aforementioned statements I made.
@helenmurray3845
@helenmurray3845 3 жыл бұрын
@@margarettaylor8107 Totally agree about Elvis not losing his faith in Christianity and his extensive knowledge of the Bible. However, what I was trying to say is there were those around him that did not like or understand Elvis's need to read and learn from other religions. Priscilla in ''Elvis and Me' says that she encouraged Elvis to burn his books, as she did not like the change in him. Also, Colonel Parker was hostile to Larry too, about his spiritual discussions with Elvis. A greater tolerance towards other religions/philosophies has occurred over the last 50/60 years. I feel that Larry was good for Elvis, and looking forward to Part 2 of Steve interviewing Larry Gellar.

Grazie a Larry , saluti e cari auguri ❤❤❤

Great that you finally got Larry Geller on the phone. He was probably one of the few people in Elvis' life who gave him the feeling to be understood in order for him to be able to open up. And without being ridiculed. He needed that so desperately at that point in his life, an outlet for things that were torturing him, finding answers. Another such person I believe was Ann Margret. Not sure If they were still together ... probably not ... I wish she would tell us little bit more ...😊

I'm going to enjoy listening to this when I have half hour free. Larry is my fave person connected to Elvis he was outside of the Memphis Mafia circle and many within have done him down over the years because he wasn't part of their group and because they had no interest in anything spiritual. Elvis learnt many things about himself and things spiritual from Larry. He shared things with Larry that he didn't share with anyone else and Larrys books are absolute must reads. If you don't read his books then you only know half the story. Even the Colonel wanted rid because he thought Elvis was getting ideas above his station.

I really didn’t know that much about Elvis and Larry’s relationship. What I want to say after listening to this interview is, one I can’t wait to hear the next part and two, I think Larry really loved Elvis as a friend! The way that he told his story is so interesting and so respectful that you can really tell that Larry was a good friend to Elvis. After hearing so many stories about the people who surrounded Elvis on a daily basis, it sounds like Larry was about the most honest friend that Elvis had. I look forward to hearing the part two of the interview. Also if Larry does read these remarks, there are so many things I would love to ask him about. Since that would never happen for me, I would so much like to say to Larry “Thank you for showing Elvis that you truly cared about him as a real person and that you showed him the love as a friend” Thank you Steve and Larry for such a warm interview and I look forward to hearing more!!

Steve why do you think the energy from suspicious minds and poke salad annie faded from maybe 73/74 onwards and the movement wasn't the same, was it a conscious thing or illness maybe I've always wondered and the question never really gets asked when people get interviewed, or maybe we seen less film of the concerts in those last few years with clips now appearing on youtube, love to here your thoughts

Ive wondered that too. The physical decline in just 5 years is mindblowing. He had his demons though. And being surrounded by a bunch of yes men only accelerated the decline. Sad. The best ever though.

Delores I feel the same. I want to believe everything he says because he has got such a calm and "convincing" voice but there's something about him that just doesn't sound right to me. I do believe in Elvis's need for spirituality and somehow Larry Gellar knew what Elvis needed to hear. He himself said Elvis was a very vulnerable man, he could have taken advantage of this. I always say we were not there and Elvis isn't here today so we'll never really know how things went.

I’m not sure what happened as to when and where was larry but there was a girl I can’t remember her name she cut Elvis hair. And did his hair. In fact when someone did his hair. He didn’t like it so he flew the girl to Hawaii to do his hair for the Aloha concert. So I wonder where was larry then? And Linda cut his hair one time and everyone laughed but Elvis just laughed too and told her honey don’t worry it will grow back.

@vegasvixen have you watched the Dearly Departed channel on here. Scott has studied it better than anyone on this earth. He was a consultant on the movie Once Upon A Time in Hollywood. Quinton Taritinno road around with him for weeks before shooting the movie going over the facts. The only connection with the murders and Manson is that the house had a guest house. At one time the guy renting it was in the recording business (Scott can give you the right name)He moved but Manson didnt know. Manson had a song he wanted to record. He may have had enough to record an album. Manson gave a song to Dennis Wilson he changed a few words tempo ect and the Beach Boys recorded it. They didnt pay Manson anything. The guy that lived at Ceilo Dr worked with the Beach Boys. Manson was going to get money when that didnt happen well you know he killed everyone in the house.

I dont know what to believe I was told by Charlie Hodge and a couple others Larry was just after what Elvis would give him. I.E. a new car jewelry ect... so I am not sure about his stories....trying to stay in the middle. If he says next week him and the Colonel were great friends and got along great then I know he isnt truthful. The Colonel didnt like him or trust him.

If you are taking cues from the Colonel then I would take Colonels removal of Larry from the group in 1967 as a sign that Larry was a real friend to Elvis and not on the take like, well, the Colonel.

Elvis being the nice gentleman that he was, probably wanted to fire the old man many times, an d I guess did on several occasions, but always took him back. I have no doubt someone else could have done a better job manageing the great Elvis. It is something we will never know.
