The Rest Of The Story

The Rest Of The Story

4 жыл бұрын

Well I gotta say I try to make these videos in a way that they're pretty much self explanatory. Any way for those of you that haven't seen my videos before, they're about the day in and day out life on a crop and cattle farm in southwest Wisconsin. I try to avoid doing to much editing in my videos and keep them as close to the original raw footage as I can because lets be honest farming isn't edited as I live it.

Thanks for the ride along chat. I find far too many folks are too focused on providing solutions to perceived problems with your operation as they simply do not acknowledge you are there first hand and have enough sense to sculpt solutions as you need them. I am of the opinion that you are doing well, have a credible expectation, and understanding of the needs. Press on sir. Bravo to the families involved.

I don't comment on a lot of these videos, but every once in awhile it doesn't hurt to say how much I enjoy this channel. There is no big production or dropping into character. It is just an honest and straightforward look a daily life on a farm that stands out for those reasons.

Guys, armchair farming is easy ! OTOH, real world farming is - as all of you know - darned difficult ! Sizing tractors has always been difficult as it involves so many conflicting tasks. But I agree bigger is better . You can always use a larger tractor to do a smaller task, but you can't safely do the contrary, particularly in your hilly dells topography . FWIW IME you eventually have to replace the JD hydraulic pump because its an inimical part of the unit - no pump, no tractor ! Its easy to overlook the reality implement evolution increases hydraulic demands, rarely lessens them ! And pumps - particularly the V-D pumps on the JD CC systems - eventually run out of capacity due to wear. BTW, when replacing the main pump I'd also opt for replacing its charge pump at the same time. Great videos guys ! And as pappy used to say, dry years are easier than wet ones ! But it seems your husbandry, hard work and thought is paying dividends thius year !

Lol... people will always have their opinions. What a lot of people don’t realize is your time is just as valuable as diesel fuel and tires. I completely agree with how you run your operation. I do the same exact things you do. The time and fuel and energy that you would spend chaining that 7600 down to a trailer 100 times a week to move the thing 5 miles will far exceed just driving it down the road to the field. It’s not like you’re running an old slow tractor that only does 15 miles an hour. That 19 speed powershift in that machine must make it a great tractor for what you’re using it for. Keep up the good work my friend

Your not the only farmer doing hay with one or 2 tractors. My son and l have a hay business with 2 tractors, and usally were done by Labor Day, but this year we have run way past that date. In fact we just made 1500 small squares this Thursday and Friday the 16th and 17th of October. Got to roll while we can because next could be a whole different year.

As far as the tractor tires and burning fuel go, you just need to compare the cost of Towing something with a pickup truck versus the cost of Towing it with a tractor assuming that it could be towed with a pickup. As long as you are in the process of earning money, you will always be using wear items such as tires and burning fuel.

You might want to consider Towing some of your current trailers with big red if you are hauling a really heavy load. My father-in-law uses his Mack semi to haul trailers using a pintle hook on the back of the semi.

You have the right set-up ! I'm a farming and forestry contractor in Europe. And exept for the excavators, none of my tractors are moved by truck. The time needed to load and secure the tractor on the semi, the cost of fuel (1.5€/l 6.25$/g for the truck and 0.4€/l 1.6$/g for the tractor) the taxes to go on the highway .. when you do the math, runing the tractor on the road is a better way. Ours tractors run at 50km/h and we are covering a working zone of 100km.

It wasn't until today that I figured out the tine wheels on the rake aren't powered; they just turn by contact with the ground. (Yeah, not a farmer)

It'd be one thing to joyride all over the neighborhood. That's not how you use your tractors. That said, it all factors into the overall operation, and only you three really know what to do with that information, so I won't weigh in. Nice job getting the hay done under pressure. Ryan managed one heck of a deal when all the Earthmaster and Rhino equipment showed up.

Thanks for the video buddy , I to love that 7600 , it would look super bad ass with some of them tires like OLF got in his 7530 , I know it may not be good for your application, just saying it would look bad ass🤘

There is always miles being driven in tractors.i think it's crazy to get a cowboy trailer for your small farm. I now of one in nd that they use them but they have 25000 acres spread out in three counties

I would say this, It is your Families Farm and you operate it as you see fit. We use to travel 15 miles to rented land and we travel by how or what you needed to have to do the harvest, Be it Corn, Hay, Or anything else. To me it gets Old having someone else telling you or whom ever How To Run Your Farm.
@BWYinYang

A hauling trailer meaning you'll have a truck to run back to farm when something breaks down without having to call one another to come with tools or parts. Calling one another meaning taking away their time away from duties needing to be done, esp. with weather. Beside, that trailer can be used to haul bales, twice faster hauling bales back to farm with other hay trailer.

Just kinda interested in the fact your focused on hay for cattle then combining beans . I know you like your crops , I used to count how many videos in a row you’d make saying chisel plow 😆 , but I think your subconsciously becoming a cattle guy . Which is absolutely nothing wrong with . 👍

I figure if you’re making money with the tractor, driving t down the road isn’t much of a problem. For the amount of time that you lose putting the tractor on a truck, depending on the distance, you may be better off just driving it.

All you can do is track your fuel usage if you want to find out if your using your tractor is too much or not enough. There is several cell apps you could use... that are designed for your auto s that I know some use for their tractors. (Putting in hours for the mileage) and then it will calculate the statistics for you. May take a minute each fuel up... but will help you all with the more you know... to be smart farmers. Simply Auto is an android app I use.
