Logan Sargeant, America's hope for a top F1 driver, has faced numerous performance issues and setbacks, including car disparities, outdated parts, and frequent crashes, which have made it challenging for him to compete with his teammate, Alex Albon. I always mention how his junior career was damaged by Prema throwing him aside. As one of the best drivers of 2020, to be dropped by a shinier new prospect must have damaged his psychologically, and giving him a year before chucking him in the deep end probably did hinder as a part of his mentality was there from getting dropped by Prema.

In an interview while in F3, Logan said that while F1 was the goal, he'd race anything. This is a breath of fresh air considering that most of the F1 grid and a lot of fans see F1 as the "be-all, end-all." If he gets ousted from F1, it'll hurt temporarily, but he'll race in another series and he may become successful. I definitely see him in IndyCar and then IMSA on the off-weeks. 👍

THANK YOU LAW!!!!!!! You've been one of the very few F1 commentators who's been behind Logan; everyone writes him off, never looks at the context of what's going on, or even just doesn't like us Americans. Logan's a great guy who just never got the proper opportunity or treatment, and I wish he could've done some great things (you never know maybe he still can this year). As an American F1 fan, its my dream to hear our anthem at the top spot of the podium. I just hope that Williams doesn't cut his time short and keeps him for the end of the season, if they don't I'll loose full respect for them. But I hope Logan does well in whatever he does next, looks like Prema would be really good form him in Indycar; and who knows maybe with great performance it could open up a seat for him with Andretti when they get in F1....never know lol

It find it really annoying when people compare Sargeant to Latifi, I’m not saying that Logan is a generational driver or something but he shows glimpses of talent every now and then and it’s still his second year in F1, he’s only 23! The fact alone that he made it into F1 is something to not something to scoff at. He’s driving the slowest car for a second year in a row and he doesn’t even get the same upgrades as his teammate or even A CAR sometimes (through no fault of his own). Should he be in F1? I don’t know, but he surely deserves a seat a lot more than someone like Stroll.

I hope he finds himself somewhere that he can shine. I hate the "when's he going?" crap. I hated it when they did it to de Vrys. I hated it when they did it to Gasly in Red Bull. I'm hating it now. He should have had the full year with the team's full support. He absolutely showed moments of quality, but got a tad "overexcited". I wonder what would have happened if he'd not gone over the line in his quali in Saudi last year. That race could have been a terrific boost to his confidence so early on which might have changed everything. I really do wish him well. He seems to be a lovely kid.

I would actually be happy to see Logan _back_ if he was signed with Andretti, because i like seeing drivers drive for a team from their country. Which is why it's also nice to see Hulk going to Audi, now only a German F1 track needs to come back, and also a French track as well, before Gasly leaves Alpine. But yeah, i'm still on the fence about Logan, i don't dislike him and i do feel kinda bad for him, it's only been his second year, but compared to de Vries, that's a lifetime. And with so many other drivers still waiting around, something does need to happen, maybe, add another team or something.

That pre-qualifying setup for Indycar is VERY similar to the classic NASCAR move when they had 43-car fields: The top 35 teams (by Owner's Points, so it's car, not driver) would be locked in (and season-ending standing would be guaranteed spots for the first 6 races of the next season). Then the top 8 qualifiers outside of those teams would be qualified for the race. Former series champions would get a number of Provisional slots they could use as free passes if they didn't qualify on time. When the series had 47, 48, 50+ teams, this was the way they would do it. And interestingly enough, some of the teams that would just make it in on the tail end would start, race like 40 laps, then retire in order to save funds and collect race winnings, because they wouldn't be able to afford tires for an entire race. It was a wild situation, and this was all less than 25 years ago.

🤔 I'm just not convinced that Logan is the best of what America has to offer. When I put on my tinfoil hat. I can't help but think that F1 is intentionally excluding the best driver pool of American open wheel drivers or international open wheel driver from American racing because they do not want a really good IndyCar driver coming into F1 and doing well. I think they are afraid that that would validate Indycar as a racing series in someway and drive competitive interest that way. Sense is roughy the same speed as F2 but it is filled with veteran drivers like Scott Dixon who alone probably has as many years racing cars at that speed the entire F2 field combined. IndyCar should have the biggest points distribution for a super license and it's not even equal to Formula 2! Back to Logan, it's not that I think he is a bad driver. It is simply that he has not proven himself amongst the best drivers that American racing has to offer where as some like Colton Herta has proven grit but F1 will not recognize him.

Then, Logan could’ve gotten the Williams seat for 2025 (which he’ll be out of the sport by then irl unfortunately). Honestly idk how to feel anymore man. As an American and a fairly new fan of the sport (The first race I watched was the 2023 USGP) I've supported Logan since the first time I heard about him. I had no idea there was an American driver in F1 so when I started watching it and heard about him, I just wanted to see him do well and support him. I'm incredibly sad with how terrible his luck has been. Some Americans don't care about Logan at all, but in a sport like this, representation of a country outside of Europe and South America, especially mine, felt special. Idk where to go from this lol, supporting anyone else just won't feel the same. Jak Crawford probably won't get an F1 seat, and there isn't any other American who's promising at all rn. I feel like, as you say, the general group of F1 cares more about new races in the US rather than American drivers and teams, and for some people that's fine, but it feels like they just want money from us while we support constructors who aren't from here. Yeah, not much else to say, I'm definitely in a minority and I doubt most ppl will resonate with this, but I needed to get it out

One of your American regulars here. Logan Sargeant is both an unfairness exemplified, and a natural byproduct of the realities of Formula 1. The talent is there for F1. He is entirely capable of a Formula 1 drive. I hope he gets in on the ground floor with Andretti Cadillac. Even if it's just as a reserve/test driver -- in fact, that may be his best way in. He actually does have quite a bit to offer bring an American, as young as he is and having 2 seasons on the inside of the Formula 1 grindhouse.

I’m American and I love Logan. He hasn’t had a fair chance, obviously. He also hasn’t maximized his when he did have the chance, let’s be honest. This whole situation is just messed up honestly. One thing I always like to remind people is the only reason Piastri won the F3 title when fighting Sargeant was the latter being crashed out. Logan not only can hang with the likes of Piastri or Pourchaire but he can beat them when he has the chance. It’s funny that Europeans don’t have very remember this.

NASCAR drivers don't _just_ turn left at 200mph, but they have to do so often with as many as six other cars immediately surrounding them, sometimes bumping into them as well. Bumping and getting physical is part of the sport of stock car racing. There really is a whole completely different skillset required in stock car racing. Also, FORTUNATELY, NASCAR has been branching out to adding circuits into the calendar, as well as a DIRT TRACK at the sprint cup level to really spice things up. The first time they did that at Bristol, the drivers absolutely LOVED IT as much as the fans did because it brought them all right back to their roots of racing at the lowest tiers of stock car on their local backwoods dirt track.

Reality teaches us that not everyone that makes it TO F1, also makes it IN F1. Some get there too soon, some just aren’t F1 material, some don’t get the time that they need to develop into a proper F1 driver. Logan got his chance, but never managed to convince anyone that he belongs in F1.

Logan is fine IMO, but is clearly stuck in his own head. Alex's performances this year give us a good benchmark of just how horrid that Williams car has become in the current season. I think Logan is just overdriving debatably the worst car on the grid and it makes him look worse than if he were quietly 17th-20th each race.

Thanks for being honest and fair with your analysis of Logan, but when your boss is doing a press conferences going, "call me Carlos, I have a seat open," and handing the car you've managed NOT to crash for once, to your teammate, because "you know, we're sure you'll understand its for the good of the team because we need someone who can actually make it to the points," yeah, that doesn't look good. James held on for one more season, and good on him for not giving up on a young rookie in his own rookie season as team principal, but sometimes it just don't work. A lot of times, F1 just isn't fair (look at the talented Carlos for Christs sakes...Ferrari one day, Williams?!maybe!?? the next). It's tough. It's a business. They want winners. Consistency. Winners with consistency. Be that, or you're out.

Nice video, Lawrence! A teamup with Logan and A J Foyt Racing would make for an interesting combination! One side note concerning the FOX/IndyCar TV deal, alot of people are concerned (and lets be honest, rightfully so) about the quality of the broadcast FOX will put on, because their NASCAR coverage in recent years have been average at best, and downright unwatchable at worst! In fact, their coverage of the lower series, in particular the Craftsman Truck Series, has been absolutely horrific, with bad carmera shots, missing wrecks, position battles, not to mention the less than enjoyable commentary! If they (meaning FOX) can put a competent comentating team in the booth as well as pit reporters, then IndyCar will be in good shape. If its like the NASCAR broadcasts are now, then people may be in for a rough viewing experience for a while! Also, I'm interested to see how this new charter system is going to work in IndyCar as well, in particular, how the sanctioning body will enforce it, because we're already seeing things get pretty ugly with the charter system in NASCAR, hopefully the one in IndyCar doesn't go down this same road!

Best example was over 2 decades ago with Jan Magnussen. Many people said he'd be a Race winner, even champion in the future AS he showed some serious Speed in F3000 and other junior series. But once in F1, nothing really clicked. Or also the early Red Bull juniors like Jamie Alguiersari, Sebastian Buemi or Scott Speed. As well as Mika Salo (Mika showed some potential as He replaced the injured Schumacher for the 99 season at Eddie's Side and had some decent results. But later nothing seem to work to his Massa replacement in 09 after Badoer that was horrible). They weren't bad drivers at all and often found more success in other racing categories Hope Logan finds a category that suits his strength and abilities better than F1

I think Logan had a relatively fair chance over the course of last year, where he admittedly struggled quite a lot (sometimes his fault, sometimes not). This year is just an escalation of that where his mistakes and external factors have created a very toxic situation surrounding him (both online and offline). Admittedly, he has had a fairer shot than most, but that's more on the situation surrounding young drivers nowadays rather than Williams and Logan. I like how Logan comes across through the Williams social media pages. I hope he finds a good drive in a series he likes, and that he can show his best. Off-topic: I don't comment on here very often but I massively appreciate your coverage of F1. I feel like you are very refreshing compared to how other channels cover the sport. I think you hit the right balance between entertainment, information, objectivity and subjectivity in your videos.

Here's my take: for Logan and Williams it's not necessarily about his results and points (as the fans view it) or even how he compares to Albon - given they have different machines. What I would be looking at as someone within Williams would be if he is getting the best out of the machine he has. Is he taking that machine and extracting every bit of speed from it? If you put Albon in Sargeant's machine would he perform better than Logan does? That is what matters, not the results on their own. The team will be looking at the data to make their decision, not race results.

Ericsson winning the Indy 500 says a LOT about the quality of the Indycar grid imho. A grid that also includes the likes of Rossi, Sato and bunch middle aged drivers that have been their for centuries. Add to that the fact that indycar around 30s slower per lap at Austin (effectively slower than F2) and yeah, it's just not an attractive prospect to me as a non American
@lifesfailure939
@lifesfailure939 Күн бұрын
Unfair take on indycar, Ericsson won the 500 once let’s not act like he’s a 4 time champion, even the great Fernando Alonso has struggled in Indy before The speed on road courses sure are slower but the racing it produces is on average, immediately better than F1
@pindajung
@pindajung Күн бұрын
@@lifesfailure939 the racing in F3 is 'better' than F1 as well. That's not the only reason why we watch. Its like the difference between the Premier League and the championship: more inconsistency and more mistakes makes it more spectaculair, but not a better game. As for Ericsson, he won once and almost twice. He's a notable driver in Indy. Whereas, in F1, Ericsson was already an after thought while he was still there, like Rossi and now Sargeant.

Williams really need seasoned drivers to get them back to their glory days. Much like how DC joined Jaguar/Redbull in the very early stages. But nowadays I don't think there's anyone from the experienced drivers willing to help develop a lower midfield car. For example, The likes of Checo, or DR3 would mean a lot for Williams and then the team will later be ready for taking on new talent with a car that will provide a clear picture. Not that they'll ever bite that bullet.

I don’t want to see pay drivers anymore. I want people who are actually qualified to be there. I don’t want any more drivers there because they bring marketing money. See Ricardo for an example. He has now become a defacto pay driver. Logan wasn’t ready for the seat and now he’s gonna lose it because of that. He was put in early because of money. Make no mistake. He comes from money. He was pay. We want Andretti more than a Sargent.

Logan's story is really sad to me, but I don't want to feel pity for him because any F1 driver, regardless of being successful or not, deserves more than just pity. It's a difficult career path and a difficult life, much more with so many people looking into your successes (or lack thereof) with such an eagle eye. I command him for being able to withstand that. I think it's clear from his team radios that he's been affected by the comments people make about him, but being able to endure it and still give it your all, despite feeling low, is something I can definitely respect. I've heard he may be moving to Indycar next year, and not gonna lie, I'd actually start watching it because of him. I root for him. It's funny, really. I'm latino, and I know most people would assume all latinos root for Checo, but genuinely, I want to see Logan do well. With what seems like the entire world around him being against him or thinking of him as less-than, I really do hope he stays resilient and does his best. I do think Williams is being unfair to him, certainly, but I hope that he'll end up in the points at least once this year. I'll be praying for him to do well :')
