I think it's really great if you work with Revit, Plant 3D of Civil but Navisworks stay really powerfull for its support for a wide range of design file formats

I am using Revit as an example but model coordination does support many different file types from NWCs, to DWGs, and certain IFCs, etc...

Jeff, you are using REVIT 2022.1. In REVIT 2023 “Manage Cloud Models” function/icon doesn´t exist. You can publish “Cloud Workshared Models” or “Cloud Models” starting from “Autodesk Docs” button in REVIT home screen (in 2022 you could also do this way). Better interface for that task.

Yes, great point Jose... I did not mention the process looks a little different in 2023 (but is better!). My sample models were in fact in 2022. But yes, you can publish the way you are saying, too!

There is a way of managing the projects with a project path, where all the designers can design in a sequence and have small validations that the project borns with no issues at the end

Is this module capable of analyzing intersections if one body is completely inside another? Navisworks counted only external intersections between polygons.

While I do think this is better than Navisworks, as an MEP coordinator its a massive miss by AutoDesk to not have self intersecting clash detection on the platform. Yes we can set up views for each system or category we cant clash detect our pipework to see if it clashes with other pipework in our model for instance.
@TheRevitKid
@TheRevitKid Жыл бұрын
I am not aware of how you would perform "self intersection vlash detection" even in Navisworks...? That doesn't make sense to me....?
@heymoa

@@TheRevitKid its a tick box in the Navisworks options (4th one along) it basically checks for clashes within the selection as well as checking against the other selection. If I could post a screen shot it would be easier. Anyway if you take your ductwork model and create an obvious clash with duct vs duct in that same view then see if BIM360 detects it and you will hopefully see what I mean. Another way of looking at it is in the clash matrix you have an empty box which it the model against itself, there basically needs to be numbers in there as well. In MEP coordination 99% is with our own elements and we currently cant do that very well with this product which is a massive shame.
@TheRevitKid
@TheRevitKid Жыл бұрын
@@heymoa wouldn’t model Vs same model be 100% clashes all all elements are overlapped? Couldn’t you just upload different views of each of your duct systems and clash them against each other? I would assume one system wouldn’t really clash with itself in oat cases (ie. Vent Vs supply as opposed to supply Vs supply)
@heymoa
@heymoa Жыл бұрын
@@TheRevitKid Not if it worked in the same way Navisworks does. Do you know how many views I would have to create and manage to enable this workflow? 3 pipe domestic systems, 4 pipe HTG & CHW systems, containment (multiple), drainage, etc then duplicate them if I want to split by floors. and yes systems clash with themselves till they are coordinated and this cant be checked on BIM360. Its a lot of work to enable the same work flow that is a check box in Navis which has been there for a long time. I feel like BIM360 has been designed for the main contractor to clash detect everyone's models against each other not analyse the model itself. Hopefully they add it in the future
@TheRevitKid
@TheRevitKid Жыл бұрын
@@heymoa You're still spending the time making a selection set and selecting those specific objects in Navis. I don't see the difference here... If you made a view in Revit that had all levels CHW only on... and then all levels HTG on... you're only making that view once and then publishing... Then its just looking at total building CHW vs HTG... The only difference is you are conditioning your selection in Revit and not in Navis/BIm360 ... I assume all of these filters are set up in your Revit model anyways for your systems and could be built right into your template for every job... Are you talking about the "items in the same file" check box in the navis clash detective tool? All that does is let you search for elements within the same file... You still have to search, condition, or find the systems...

hi Jeff this is a bit off topic, I am trying to figure out how to insert a pointcloud into twinmotion at the same place the revit file comes in. Have not figured this out yet. Thank you for your great channel!! Note I am exporting the points in Register360. I set UCS in this program and then export to RCP file so to insert into revit.
@TheRevitKid
@TheRevitKid Жыл бұрын
Does the point cloud align when you bring it into Revit without any modification?
@eastudio-K
@eastudio-K Жыл бұрын
@@TheRevitKid yes I figured out how to do that recently using "Register 360 / Leica software", but the Twinmotion coordination is different I guess, I have to try it out again to see where it lands. Note: when I export the pointcloud from Leica I export "points" for the Twinmotion file, and then do another export for a RCP file for inserting into revit. There are other export options to export E57 file but have never tried that. Side note, I recently got a little caught up in cleaning the points in recap. This is tricky as well because if you delete points or set up too many regions it seems to slow down revit after importing the pointcloud. Also someone mentioned to me if you use the fence tool to clean up points it boggs downs the file. All this is a bit tricky but am loving the visuals and the technology so worth the learning curve. Thank you as always!
@TheRevitKid
@TheRevitKid Жыл бұрын
@@eastudio-K If you are aligning it in Recap and the recap file is coming in right in place... why not export a PTS from Recap and then bring that PTS into TM? Maybe that will make sure it all aligns?? Otherwise, look for something to use a benchmark to align...
@eastudio-K
@eastudio-K Жыл бұрын
@@TheRevitKid Ill try that to see where it lands, I think I tried that from recap and the pointcloud came out grey or faded in twinmotion. When I export from Leica the pointcloud was typical color view. It must be a setting, but your right the alignment should be on in this case. Ill post an update on this thread. Thank you!

This feature works good for small and regular size models, but when you try to check big size model it works slowly and does not process all the models in one coordination space.. cloud limitations

There is definitely an issue with models that get too big but that’s why we slice and dice models into floors or parts when projects get too large… still, I am working with some very large projects on this platform.

@@jeremyjpegan we do extremely large projects… 17+ story commercial and medical buildings… Breaking it out by floor helps… Also, if the Revit model processing time takes too long we may opt for NWC exports because they process and publish so much faster on ACC.

@@TheRevitKid just so I am clear, you are linking and aligning all MEP, struct, arch, etc. into a container Revit file, separating 3d views by levels and then, possibly further separating the levels by trade and then exporting each trade/level to .nwc and then uploading to BIM 360? all files come in aligned?

I’m an electrical subcontractor and I fail to see how this workflow works for my department. I don’t control what other subs do. I can’t ask them to host their files to my ACC site. I contributed to someone else’s coordination effort. Lately they use procore, box or some other shitty site not geared towards coordination. So, what I’m saying. As a sub contractor, this workflow just doesn’t work for us. This seems to be geared towards a general contractors and design firms. Am I looking at this all wrong? Curious to hear thoughts.

Correct, you on the right path, I been preaching this also that these concepts, workflows and platforms work best when is all under one umbrella, or there is a strong contractual project execution and management of such. Also when the GC and Client also will be using the platform for the overall project benefit.
