Another thing with LEGO Rock Band: failing out only gives you a score penalty, it doesn't end the song (unless you're playing a Rock Power Challenge). This mechanic was borrowed from the other LEGO games developed by Traveller's Tales/TT Games (LEGO Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Batman, etc.), who also worked on LEGO Rock Band. And Rock Power Challenges have different star cutoffs from playing those songs normally, since you can't use Overdrive. Also in RB3, if you play 5-lane Keys with a guitar controller, it removes extended sustains (the earlier sustains get cut off when the next one is played), and also automatically switches notes to HOPOs if they're close enough together.

this is unrelated to the actual engines of the games but I always loved how the crowd would sing along on certain songs in the rock band games, felt so much more immersive and i really hope they add it to Fortnite Festival in the future in some way

IIRC, playing 5-fret Keys on a guitar controller converted extended sustains to single notes. I remember there being a few songs I played where a three note extended chord was a single strum into a 2-chord then three chord sustain.

Rock Band 3 engine my beloved

IIRC, in LEGO Rock Band, Super Easy was just the easy charts, but you didn't have to fret. A few of the songs had a "short" version that you could play.

50:00 RBN is still one of the best things Harmonix ever did with Rock Band. There were a lot of cool RBN tracks, some of my favorites being Dark Horse by Converge and Juke Joint Jezebel by KMFDM

Regarding the 54ms, you are most likely getting this number from my video explaining the strum limit. It was my estimate after TASing the game on emulator prior to the strum limit being figured out.

[Re RB1 vocals] "I guess they were trying to make talkies actually matter, with the words that you're saying, from what I understand, or just my theory". Something to back this up! In an issue of Official Playstation Magazine UK where Rock Band 1 was being previewed (I think it might have been the first time it was covered post-reveal), the write-up claimed that the microphone was going to be able to recognise words instead of just going based on your pitch, to differentiate it from the likes of Singstar. It sounds like Harmonix wanted it to happen for all of vocals but couldn't quite get it right so they relegated it to an experiment with the talkies.

oh yeah, adding unison phrases retroactively to rb1 songs was so busted, i remember getting that long overdrive achievement in dani california by ACCIDENT cause you can use it the whoooole song

Funny for Trill lanes, Love Me Two Times has trill lanes for 2, notes. You do that long trill into a short hopo and its laned, honest to god ive never hit that without strumming both the hopos. Plus Falling Away from me it has an awful strum lane, its so slow but legit also its absolutely random if you hit it or not, just lane switching in general for Lanes is... bad, but of course sometimes Lanes will just do random stuff, there are a few trill lanes that have strums in middle of them that you can just Spam it as if Strums don't exist into those Hopo trills and it just works, think Season in the Abyss has such and you can just hit that stuff without strumming and its just so akward.

To be fair, 90% of my shit misses in Rock Band 2 were on Damnation Game

Also, an aside on another episode for Festival's engine - what's the viability of an episode discussing the engines of the currently existing projects, the things you'd say if someone asked 'what do I do to get into GH / RB' - i.e. Clone Hero, YARG, RB3DX, GH2DX, WTDE, and Festival?

to add another point to 48:30, those rock band 2 customs can also be played on rock band 3 so basically working imports from beatles on rock band 3 xbox 360

funny thing about the pal ps2 verison of rb1; in order to fit the extra songs on the disc they had to remove some songs. big one is day late dollar short which is still menu music despite not being available to play
