This place was really incredible when it was thriving. I lived in Salton City a pebbles throw from the sea. I was a young girl at the time. My parents decided to move away when I was about 10 years old. I have so many memories, especially of summer time. Campers, camp fires on the beach, boaters, water skiers and fishing.

The Salton Sea 🌊 reminds me of the road trips to Mexicali BC with my Daddy Rest In Peace .. love you Dad🙏😢

I lived in the state park as a boy back in the 60's, I loved it there. My dad was the park supervisor.

My name is John,I grew up at the Salton Sea ,from the time I was 11 or twelve til I was in my 20's. My cousins,friends and I have a lot of great and fond memories of growing up there. We fished ,waterskied,I even sailed across it twice ,once in a 10 foot Sailboat,and once in a 14 foot Sailboat. It's very peaceful out there in a nice breeze,quiet by yourself. I hope to do it again one day. We used to swim in it a lot also,never saw one snake in the water.(referring to one of the comments made here). I wouldn't recommend swimming in it now tho,it's not the same as it used to be. We used to wear tennis shoes,so we wouldn't cut our feet on the barnacles,or whatever else was in there. I wish they would do something about the sea. I think the canal to the gulf would be fantastic. The sea is 2-1/2 hour drive from Orange County,and 2 hours from San Diego. It would be a weekend paradise,and create a lot of financial opportunity, and property values would go up. It could generate revenue for California and the locals,instead of generating negative impact ,and opinions. Anyway,thank-you Bea for your video,it brings back good memories, I wish I could take you to lunch.

I visited Salton Sea few days ago, out of curiosity. I felt in love with the place. It is so enigmatic and beautiful. The way the water reflects the sky is just magical. The fact that its sand is really pulverized bones makes it even more mystical. It didn't smell at all. I encourage people to visit it. The post-apocalyptic land is something you must see with your own eyes. There is beauty in its chaos. So much beauty! I really hope we can save this place!

Had a awesome time this weekend at the Salton sea and salvation mountain. The temperature was 115! And like always had the whole sea to myself well me and the wife lol

I went there; I WENT IN THE WATER; NO... I didn't get sick, or lose a limb; it smelled bad, but it needs to be fixed. More people need to be made aware of its incredible potential!!!!

Loved this video! My dad took us to the sea on my summer visits with him. Sadly, my 18 year old nephew that grew up in LA had never heard of it and his older brother said, "oh yeah...I remember. Just let it dry up." I hope to get back to the sea someday.

My Uncle took me on a ride from Banning California to the Salton Sea and it was truly amazing but that was 1979 and my Grandfather and Grandmother used to camp and fish there every year for their Vacations it would be really sad to lose such a beautiful place

I think this is the same Bea Broda that I saw in a real estate infomercial back in the 90's. She was sitting in a short skirt with the most incredible legs. Her calves were awesome. I have even heard of them pumping water from the Sea of Cortez thru the New River and Alamo river or possibly run the water in the old Cochella canal to reach the sea..

I was there a few years ago. Has a real sulfur-like smell to it. And it was near dark, but this video makes it look quite pretty. Very much like the Dead Sea in Israel.

Love the Salton sea but loved it more when everything was abandon. Now a lot of it is cleaned up. Like the fact that nobody is there. Was talking to the ranger and he said he was boogie boarding on the waves. The waves were 3 footers but fun! And no the water isn’t toxic!!

The responsibility for lack of water at the Salton Sea lays on the Los Angeles and Metropolitan Water Districts shoulders for coming in and taking over the excess water from the Imperial Irrigation District that used to flow into the Salton Sea. over & over we mess with the ecosystem when we don't know what we are doing. This video failed to mention that this sea formed this time not just because the Colorado river flooded, but because agriculture had created channels for irrigation. We could try to fix it, but what damage will we do elsewhere as a result? We are so stupid. But we think we are so smart.

Use the desert or part of the sea to capture solar energy to work pumps and also supply energy elsewhere.

Yes that is right, accidental lake from flooding of the river early in the last century. The birds thrive there. People often discover during a visit and learn to appreciate it and concerned that it may disappear.

When the wind is blowing inland you can't camp in the Anza Borrego Desert State Park due to the stench that wafts on the wind from the Salton Sea!

Are there any plans to fix this problem now??

We fought for the Sea for so many many years. We tried so hard. We got to the point where we would invite the powers that be in sacramento. It did no no good. Some one wants that sea gone.

What needs to be done to the Salton Sea is a partition dam with a spill way. One side would become a salt lake, growing fresher over time, fed by ag runoff as always. The other side would become a Salt sump, perhaps the salt could be put to use by industry

226 feet below sea level. The mighty Colorado before altered was navigable by steamboat for hundreds of miles into the interior of present day Arizona from its gulf of California delta. The Mohave II Yuma Arizona. Twin stacked shallow draft paddle wheeler had to avoid sand bar running aground danger.

Paymaster landings is the saver to the Salton Sea. As you have a natural water way already split off the river you just need to extend it threw town and let it take its course.

By watching videos about the Salton Sea, and conducting a few calculations based on publicly available data, I've figured out that, as a reasonable estimate, it would take the removal of enough salt to account for as much as 100 Great Pyramids of Giza, to bring the lake of the Salton Sea to normal salinity, Enough salt, at 17,000,000 tons per annum, with which to salt the roads of the US, for the next 35-years.

This is the 6th video I've watched on the Salton Sea today, and not one has any kind of call to action for us citizens.

It won't dry up that easy because of how salty it is, the salt prevents the water from evaporating fast. Eventually if no water is added it should dry up but it will take a long long time. And I agree with you I visited this place 3 years ago and the smell was horrible, I saw a lot of dead fish on the shore and greenish looking water.

Do you think El Niño will help the drought in this area?

How hard would it be to pump the hyper-salty water into the Sea of Cortez (and replace the water with ocean water)? It sounds feasible.

I have never been to the Salton Sea, but plan to in the future. I don't see a wasteland - I see an opportunity to save a lake & form new agricultural industries.

I've live in the Coachella Valley my entire life, everytime I pass through the Lake, it amazes me how great it looks. The smell has only reach the valley a very few times. I've met people that hate the smell but that's because that was there first time smelling it. After a while you can't really tell unless it is really hot (110 degrees +). I have never done any research on the lake until now (I'm 22). It is very interesting to hear the story of the lake. I have only a question about it, if the cause of the water being contaminated was from agriculture, why doesn't the government or whoever is in charge of the lake go after the farm companies that cause the contamination and ask them to pay for the cleaning? They were the ones responsible. If I remember correctly, I've heard in the past two years that they are planning on cleaning it some time soon. Need to do more research to be accurate.

When was this video taken. The many videos on this You Tube show nothing but extremely horrible areas of decay and leftover human waste. The water shown on these videos doesn't look as vast as this video shows. The sea seems to be in danger of evaporating in a very short time. The loss of this sea seems imminent and so very sad.

I was there with my father when he was promoting a housing project there. Call it a real estate development. The houses were there. But all failed. Years later my delinquent buddies and I smoked pot and swam in that polution. I survived the Sea didn't.

My wife and traveled through there a couple of years ago. i wouldn't choose to go into that water in a boat. As for being an area with a high incidence of asthma, I would suspect other pollutants in the air (maybe not so innocent) and perhaps that is not a great place for humans to settle into.

I hope they do something about this but I dare nothing will be until it's either it's too late or there is aserious threat the the rest of the area.

This is an accident from digging a canal to irrigate the Imperial valley. This lake is destined to dry up man cannot fill this pond with no rain.

This is sure a positive spin. I find the place to be disgusting, dead fish and birds everywhere, abandoned houses. 🤔

Almost 5 years later I see it is doing what I believe this lake should return to is natural dry lake bed and it is evaporating at an alarming rate. Warning this lake is not the lake it was in 1969 through 1972 while I was a child visiting here over 100 times and later living in Palm Springs for another later 18 years. About <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="360">6:00</a> minutes in the fear factor begins the children the Asthma the toxic dust and so on. If see evaporates at a slow geological rate over decades this will be fine if you are sensitive about breathing then a desert is never the place for you to be to start with. Yes leaving it alone is the right thing to do. History about me. I am 81 husband is 83 we have 3 children male mid fifties to early 60's, we have eaten the fish ever sense, only place to get them that we know and we are all alive healthy and well, so what is the health issue even now as the evaporation is accelerating at a rate that no regulations to pass in California (tough rules state) are going to catch up with, so in my opinion sit back and enjoy the lake bed while nature reclaims (no money in that thought) this great and vat dry lake bed just like the one in Twentynine Palms and the main death Valley have today.

I wish we all could get along. walk with me and we can change the world for the betterment of all earth dwelling. Starting with reviving the sea adding in waterfalls and beautiful gardens. Where the water would flushed and cleansed for swimming and fish farming underwater hotels for divers. Garden dome homes and water cleaning power plants...
