Good video. I think you did Dirt Rally 1 & 2 a disservice by not mentioning them. Finally trying to deliver a modern alternative to RBR for rally fans has been very welcome

The very first sensations I had with simracing was a french game called POD, it was very cool, with fantasy tracks, it was launched in the end of the 90s, there was also a cheap Testarossa game on Atari in the eighties called Out Run who kept me busy for some hours behind the wheel... Ok, Now were talkin! Yes, as a child of the 60's I was ready to go by the time these first sims came out. I didn't really like them too much as spent my time on ZZ battlezone ZZ (tank game) but by time I bought my second or third PC, it was ON for sure. I did have that Papyrus Indy 500 game. Still had a joystick back then. Then yes, Microprose and NASCAR. Finally got a real 3d video card 8mb I think and was able to play Jeff Gordon racing, VIPER RACING (actually made a lan between my and my kids computer and we raced each other!) , Moto X and many others with awesome resolution (back then). I guess I'm a big sim fan cause looks like I bought them all!! 2020 now and during lockdown I built a 3DOF motion sim, VR and buttkickers.. I guess I never growed up.. !! DMAX

Pretty sure that REVS was the first physics based racing sim.

Great content - trip down memory lane .. first sim with a wheel was toca touring cars .. on Ps1, first arcade was the one where you steered the dots along the track .. first enjoyable one was pole position - 🤩 now Assetto Corsa In VR is my go to - cheers and here’s to another good year for mods in AC for 2021

Dtm, virtua racing, DTM racing 😉. The game in min. 3 was one of my first games ever together wilt outrun and lotus on the Amiga. Damn... I'm old 😂.

Well, if you go for _entire_ history, you should have started at least with Night Driver/Midnight Racer - Datsun 280 ZZZAP/Nürburgring 1 way back from 1976

There were many 3D arcade racing simulators already before Pole Position. Watch my playlist "driving simulator history". The first one was made by the German company Foerst, the Nürburgring 1 (an analogue computer with simple B/W graphics) and its successor Nürburgring 3 with more detailed colour graphics (mountain background etc.) preceded the road drawing style of Pole Position. A motion cockpit version can be seen in their company history video.

what i enjoy about simracing is having an oportunity of driving things i would never be able to, like supercars, and specially old cars, very old cars, like what was it like to drive a 1954 F1 mercedes

Pretty good video, I would've liked a deeper video more in depth with companies and such, but that's just me and would be way longer than the average viewer wants. 😂 Also, my favorite simulator is iRacing. And I do a lot of rally in BeamNG, though I may go ahead and try Richard Burns Rally. Just not my main interest, iRacing has me tied. 😂 I don't even play many regular videogames for heavens sake! 😅

No mention of REVS? the first to have a full simulation of aero, suspension, hills on tracks etc?

You should try wangan midnight it’s a arcade game with gear but no clutch you can even save your data I was very addicted and it’s very fun

I agree with h you, assetto corsa is also my favourite and mods are just getting better and better. I hope there will be an assetto corsa 2 in the near future also with mod compatibilities. And a worthy online system too. I don't even ask for dedicated servers since nowadays we have more than enough internet brandwidth but championship making, some intros before and after the race. Spectator mode where you actually sit on a bench and watch the race. So many possibilities

How could you skip Viper Racing (Sierra, 1997)? It was way ahead of its time. I was the foremost expert at modding that game. Atleast as far as car handling, looks and sounds goes. /Matt @ VRGTA

An enjoyable video, but a little sparse. No coverage of any modern Codemasters games? Where is rFactor 1? And most of all, no mention of home sim racing wheels and other equipment through the years? A more in-depth sequel to this video would be incredible

Great video, but how can you say ENTIRE history when you forget about one of the best sims of that time period 'Viper Racing' ?! (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viper_Racing).

This is so NOT the entire history of sim racing. No mention of Sega Hard Drivin or Sega Ferrari F355 Challenge to name just 2 important historical sims.
