I have good news and bad news. Good news is that people seem to love the video which is great because I loved making it! Bad news is that this will most likely be the last Outer Wilds video I make. I would love to make more but honestly I’m not sure what else I could do. I did this video which covers basically the whole story, and the iceberg which covers almost everything outside of the story. And while that is sad news I’m super proud of both these videos and I hope you will continue to stick with me as I make videos similar to this one for other games you love. ::)

Obviously this was a deliberate choice for gameplay but maybe they just don’t process information as fast as we do. Maybe for them that frame rate is normal.
@victor-ling
@victor-ling 5 ай бұрын
@@overusedbruh To be pedantic ... if that frame rate is normal to them then wouldn't it make sense for their simulation to run at that frame rate. Not dissimilar to how we target our VR headset frame rates to what can trick our brains?
@Harmoniou-s
@Harmoniou-s 5 ай бұрын
@@victor-lingwe put VR at the fastest possible framerate, not at what our brains can be tricked on. The human brain "runs" at over 2000 fps, most VR headsets run at 90 fps. Higher framerates are always better.

@@Harmoniou-s If I concede that point, then my original statement still stands. See this isn't a conversation about what the best VR experience for humans is. Gods almighty, that voice-acted recording of Escall's Folly (24:00) is absolutely heartbreaking. I lejit got choked up hearing it and remembering the first time I read the scroll walls inside the Vessel for the first time, putting myself inside the Nomais' heads as their home collapsed around them without warning, with no way to fix it or call for help. 100/10 video.

For anyone wanting to "experience" the EotE but is incredibly incompatible with horror games (like me) and cannot finish the DLC on their own, lookup "About Oliver" and his playthrough series. I think it’s because Outer Wilds puts into perspective, better than any other way I’ve ever seen or heard it communicated, the insignificance of any one being within the scope of the universe as a whole. And I think if everybody understood that, and treated others in accordance with it, we’d all be better, and better off, human beings. Or at least that’s why I cry whenever the experience of OW hits me like it can.
@rickygiove
@rickygiove 4 ай бұрын
@@nyehentertainment in a way, you are correct. But at the same time, i feel exactly the opposite. I think OW shows you how fundamental was every single bit of thought, word, action that everyone did. It's a choral effort towards the goal, made by 3 different species through hundreds of thousands of years, and every little decision could have led to a different outcome, maybe the end of it all. One thing that always strikes me - because it's the opposite of what humans would do - is that the nomai discovered a new and sensational material, and took exactly what they needed and not a bit more, to allow future species (us) to thrive. The human race would have consumed it all and destroyed the planet, I'm pretty sure

Remember next time you think your life amounts to nothing. You don't know the consequences of this "nothing" and how significant you were to this universe in the end. I lost my mother recently shortly after completing Outer Wilds. This game prepared me for times of grieving, helped me to make to know how to say farewell to a loved one even if I'd give everything to have those damned twenty-two minutes to go back and keep her alive. I hope Outer Wilds helped many other people to deal with loss and existential dread. Thank you for the work you've done and to all of you fellow travelers, take time to roast a marshmallow. The night sky is beautiful, company is good and who knows ? Maybe this moment could be the most important of your life, even if it lasts only twenty-two minutes.

Knowing in the end now that the "start" of the game is actually the 9millionth iteration of your character "starting" their journey just makes it even more amazing that this game was made the way it was. My only question about it, other than to make a perceived notion that you are on a different timeline, why wouldn't the probe be sent to the same direction every single time after you are communicated and linked with the statue?
@overusedbruh

The loop technically begins slightly before you wake up where the OPC adjusts its position randomly.
@Dkgow

@@overusedbruhThat's right, so while you get linked the one time, you "technically" aren't getting linked every time. It is just a way for us as the player to understand?
@overusedbruh
@overusedbruh 5 ай бұрын
@Dkgow You only get linked the first loop you play in because canonically that’s the loop the probe finds the Eye. So the loops before you did pass the statue but never linked with it because the probe didn’t find the Eye. I think that answers your question but i’m not sure.
@BanzaiHeil
@BanzaiHeil 5 ай бұрын
@@DkgowI think the answer to the question you are asking lies in some Nomai text about the statue on the Orbital Cannon remaining linked to the Ash Twin Project so that the data is retained on where the cannon has fired/searched for the Eye unsuccessfully in previous loops, thus the next loop the cannon fires in a new random direction every time.
@Bubbly_Dragon
@Bubbly_Dragon 3 ай бұрын
It's the only actual plothole I can think of. The loop was exactly 22 minutes, and you wake up right at the start of that, which obviously doesn't give the cannon enough time to turn before firing

This video did Outer Wilds justice. I knew there had to be a story recap out there from someone who loved the game, and it is very clear from the quality of this video that you love the game dearly, too. Outer Wilds is hauntingly beautiful. A game like no other. I am still in awe of how real it all feels. What all the characters went through in search of the Eye of the Universe, and how we end up thrust in the story at the end of the universe, is a wild ride. Thank you very much for the work you put into this. I loved every moment of it and the game.

Duede, this is so fucking sick! To think how long it must have taken to write this script, and to serialize the branching narrative, arranging sections deliberatly to create tension, rising and falling action within your script! It's fucking sick! The amount of effort you put into this is crazy! I am also suprised how almost every little detail of thr nomais history got covered - Arringing them into a sensible order must have been a lot of work Especially the ash twin projects convergent nature - how many divisions and working groups came together, and how everything has to click into place for the nomais insane plan to work These are details that you built out if the existing narrative that i found very satisfying to imagine. You told the story like a tangible engineering project And at the end i found that i learned new things about the nature of the time loops- How exactly the statue came to be activated and how many times we died in the alternate simulated loop realities with no memories of it. I hope our comments can justify the amount of effort in your mind! And don't stress about making more OW content as yous ay in your pinned comment You have proven that you can retell stories in long form and write compellingly -so when youre in the right place again and drop another banger, it has a good chance of finding people ::)

Just came across this video and one hour has never gone this fast as watching this video! Well done! What I also like about the owlks is that, at the ending, given you free the prisoner, he stands in the dark, away from the campfire. He shows guilt over his species closing off the signal of the eye. Even after all the years that he is imprisoned by his own kind, he still takes blame of what they've done. It really shows how emotional the owlks can be.

WOW. I have watched many OW videos. 20+ lets plays/streams of this game. But never did it ever occur to me, that 22 minute loop actually happened to the player, as many times as you learn the probe had launched. And finally that text about how the ash twin can make the nomai aware of issues, makes perfect sense, which I guess I thought I understood, but I kind of did not. Until I saw the end of your video. and I thought this game couldn't blow my mind anymore.

When I fist bought Outer Wilds a couple of years ago after hearing so much praise about it (Yet staying completly spoiler free apart from the fact that it is open world and a puzzle game) I started the Game ran into the campfire and died in 60s (As that was the first achievment i saw on the steam page). That was the first time i saw the death ending. It brought me back to the Title screen and i started the game again. After messing around a bit in the Village and dying multiple more times I closed the game thinking it wasnt something for me. At that time the idea of a puzzle game in which you lose all your progress when dying wasnt very appealing to me (Mind you at that time i didnt know anything about the game. I thought the game would be akin to smth like the Witness in which it would be an open world with many stationary puzzle games leading to some grand ending.) So there it was lying dormant in my steam library for years to come. Then a couple of months ago I played another story based game and after finishing it I looked it up online trying to find other similar games and there i saw it once again Outer Wilds. Even tho it has been a bit I still remembered what the game was like when i first played it yet i booted it up once more to give it another chance (Which turned out to be most likely one of the best things i have done in my life). After starting the game and ignoring most of the things in the "Tutorial" (Because im that kind of player who ignores most of the story and only briefly flies over the text to understand the bare minimum) I got the launch codes and after being very confused by what the Statue did flew into space. The first planted i got to was Dark Bramble and after going inside and once again being very confused I died to the anglerfish in what i can describe as one of the scariest things a Video Game has done to me in along time. Afterwards I got to expirience the Time loop for the first time and once again got very.... very confused. I landed on Brittle hollow and after falling into the black hole cause the ground suddenly vanished beneath my feet and dying cause of lack of oxygen I once again closed the game. However this time it was different the game had done smth to me which i couldnt explain so the next day i started it yet again but this time wanting to truly see the world the game was build upon. I started a new file and read everything there is to read I realy wanted to see everything the game had to offer something no other game had made me wanna do as much as Outer Wild has. I finished the base game in around 9h and the Ship log in around 11. After doing that I was amazed by what the game had achieved. It was beautiful and absolute masterpiece something that will forever go down in my mind as one of the if not the best game i have every played. I bought the DLC right away and after another 6h had also beaten that and while to be honest i didnt like the dlc as much as (in my opinion) it was alot more horror like and less explore and ancient alien species as the rest of the game after seeing its ending (and then beating the base game once again to get the prisoner there) i truly felt that the dlc made the game even better as it rounded out the already well crafted story even more. After seeing everything the game had to offer I still wasnt truly satisfied. There where so many things i wanted to see the Science fair of the nomai, other nomai clans and other places that all i did for the last couple of months was looking at more Outer Wilds related content to truly understand everything there is to understand. From watching every review of the game i could find to seeing dozens of lets plays i just couldnt get enough. Yet nothing could give me the same feeling i had while playing Outer Wilds. This brings me to this video and for some reasons or others this video truly expressed the beauty of Outer Wilds better the anything else i have seen about it (Apart from the actual game ofc). It brought back all these feelings to me that i sought after and finishing the Video i can truly say that for me you have achieved what you wanted to achieve to show the beauty of Outer Wilds in one video. This Video is one of the if not the best video i have seen on this platform for a very long time. And i truly want to thank you for making it. Outer Wilds is a game that left a deep inpact on me and even tho i will never fully let go of the feelings it brought me. After watching your video i feel like i can move on and visit other places (maybe a bit cringe to write but thats truly what it made me feel like) Sry for all the text i dont even know if someone will read all of it xD. If you did thank you i know my english is not the best and also my keyboard is half broken so if some letters are missing at some parts or sometimes theres to many letters then now you know why. Also i just once again wanna say how amazed i am that a game that i played for less then 20h brought me so much joy and left such a deep inpact on me like no other. I may have played close to 4k hours of Minecraft last year (ye i know i should go touch some grass you dont have to tell me that) yet Outer Wilds with its less then 20h brought me thousands of times more joy then any other game. Well thats it if your still reading I just hope youll have a great rest of your day c::

Now, I’ve played and beat Outer Wilds and realized that (at least in my opinion) one of the reasons why Outer Wilds is so great is that it recreates that same wish to explore that I had as a little kid, that motivated my biggest hyperfixation that is astronomy, and what motivated the Hearthians in the game. If you are one of those people who likes reading comments before watching the video, as the person who did an amazing job and posted this said, please go play Outer Wilds yourself. You won’t regret it

Theory: Prisoner was the (or if not, one of the) official owlk artists, and when the prisoner went to the eye signal to watch it to paint it/put it in a slide reel, he saw the full vision which was the rebirth of the universe (which he painted at 17:08 )(excuse the rough wording im not stellar at making theories but when theres a painting called “Prisoners Prophecy” its gotta mean something)

Thanks for the video! I love outer wilds so much. It's a testament to the deep wealth of information to be found in the game that information on the time the player experiences isn't presented until the last ten minutes of the video.

extremely well done video 10/10. fitting for a 10/10 game too. Its crazy how tiny this game seems at its surface, but under that surface is one of the deepest stories ive experienced in a game or even movie. you captured everything important and displayed it so beautifully.

Man im not even finished with the video but this is amazing. I loved your iceberg video but this is so much more, equivalent to what mossbag's Hollow Knight lore video is. Having voice acting during the jump to Dark Bramble broke me, such a good video

I really love how this video goes through the whole story chronologically. Pretty much every other Outer Wilds video I’ve seen has the narrator explain their personal experience, and they describe the way the story unfolded for them specifically. It’s nice, but this video here does it without a narrator’s perspective. It’s just THE story which is really good. And quite well made too. I like the music synchronization!
