My parents were full time RVers for over 10 years. My dad said that if he wasn't sure about a place, he walked it first and then decided about staying there. I'm betting that he'd have passed on that RV park, even if it meant not staying in that area. They had a 35' Alpenlite 5th wheel towed with a big RAM diesel pickup...another long tall vehicle like your. I'm glad you're okay and able to get another rig and back on the road.

Being a retired trucker, ive owned a few rv's in my day. I always liked the look of a triple axle too. But you really cant blame the park manager. When in doubt, get out of your rig and walk to the site if you have to. And by the way, i hauled for Mayflower. You wouldnt believe how many of my shippers told me you can get your truck in here no problem lol. It was my call whether i could or couldn't. If i determined i couldnt, then the shipper was responsible for paying extra for the shuttle truck. You really can't blame the park manager. Its your lack of experience that got you in trouble. But thanx for the entertaining vidio, i haven't had a good laugh today so thanx. Those people in NC deserve a big thank you for getting your butt out of that mess lol. Im sure Geico will thank you also with a much larger monthly insurance payment lol. Whenever i did do property damage with my rig i always had to pay for it. Happy motoring to you and good luck. And again thanks for the laugh lol.

As I pilot I guess I have the mentality that agrees with you... Blaming the park manager for something that happens while "in command" of a massive vehicle kind of rubs me the wrong way. I always operate under the rule that, while I can use helpers, anything that happens while I'm in command of a vehicle / plane / whatever is 100% my responsibility during that time, the buck stops with me. If I'm not sure about what I'm being told I check it out myself.

Not saying you are wrong. Id prefer to build out my own RV too. But a number of RV parks will not accept "homebuilt" RV's to stay in the park. That is a common theme that pops up in the skoolie community. It may not be a problem if you intend to use your RV in a manner that doesn't require RV park stays. Dispersed camping out west and boondocking a homebuilt rig should be fine.

When others share their mishaps and regrets, it makes us all more aware of what can happen. The first thing that I learned when I first started towing was know your trailers dimensions and capabilities. Never take someone else's point of view as gospel. You, and only you, know how your trailer handles and if you take a look at a situation and it doesn't feel right go with what you know and to heck with the person that is telling you "Oh, we've had plenty of people do this". Ground clearance is just as important as overall height. It totally sucks that this happened to you and you're not the first KZfaq'r that I've seen that this has happened to. Maybe the addition of wheels on the frame in the back may have helped prevent this? Maybe not in soft soil though. Good to know that everything worked out for you!

I kind of know how you feel. I booked a space in a park and knew I was going to get there after dark. Found my space and had to work hard (in the dark) to get my 34' into the space (between trees with trees on both sides of the road). Managed to get in with out hitting anything and no damage after about 20 minutes of maneuvering and getting out and maneuvering and getting out over and over. Next morning I got up and took a walk and discovered if I had driven around, I could have pulled straight in. In short, it helps to know where you are going.

I am so, so sorry this happened to you. I do pretty fair listening to my gut about stuff. I just purchased my own home and spent a great deal of time looking. When I found one that I thought would work, the realtor explained that the home had recently gone through some extensive foundation work and access to under the master bedroom was blocked. They kept telling me that all was OK and there should be no problems. I went back to my apartment to think about it over the weekend. My gut was telling me that this was not a good place for me. I kept going back and looking at another home that no one wanted to purchase because it needed alot of inside cosmetic work. It had a new roof, new electrical, new siding, new furnace, new central air and new hot water heater. It was on a nice, quiet street with pleasant neighbors. I finally set up time to see it and I fell in love with it! I felt so positive about this house. When I went back to my list of things I wanted in a home, this home had every thing I had listed except a garage. There is a car port and I suppose I could build a one car garage later if I want to. Every single thing fell into place with this house and it just needed a little TLC on the inside. The best thing about it was that it ended up having a well. I had a well person come over and get it up and running. The water has some Coliform in it but it can be run through a gravity water purifier and it will clean it so although I use it for watering, I can use it for emergency water if needed. One of the things I really wanted was a well. So I was pretty happy about all of it!

I’ve since learned I do not argue with people after 30 years of doing this I get back in my truck and I leave. Well, no. Perfect is what's best for each of us, and we are all different, and there are RVs of all sizes. It can be hard to find what's personally best, though. I have an old 1991 23' Lazy Daze, which is VERY well made... but more and more, I just like going out into the desert and the hills near my Tombstone, Arizona in a small 15' Transit Connect. Go figure! As for his long, long trailer... what a beauty, an actual home with all the bells and whistles, perhaps with many ladies chasing him down the highway just to get at that world-class kitchen!

First of all, let me say I am really sorry for all that you went through involving the loss of your previous rig. And I just subscribed to your channel because I like your style (and you’re cute😉) I was a long haul truck driver for 16 years and have lost track of the number of times someone told me “Oh 18 wheelers come through here all the time”. I am proud to say I racked up approximately 750,000 safe miles without an accident. I did knock a reefer display unit off of a trailer one time, oops. The ability to stay calm and collected is an invaluable tool for anyone who drives any vehicle any distance. And there is a saying in the trucking industry which I would like to pass on to you. No matter how good a driver you are, if you do this job long enough (or in your case, drive enough miles), sooner or later you will F*** Up something. It’s a good day when you and anyone else around can walk away from the scene. And you have valuable knowledge and a lesson to pass on to your viewers. Safe travels to you from this point forward. I had a similar thing happen when I had a class C RV and a reservation. They were also told what RV and length I had during the reservation, and we had just checked in. A large sign was posted to drive around on the right side of the building to the back. It was a one-way. When it was time to leave the campground, the road continued around to the other side of the building to the front. However, going around the front corner, it got tighter and tighter. soon, we were brushing a tree on the right and bumping a roof overhang on the left. The owner came running out all screaming mad that he had just fixed that 2 days ago... for the third time! His wife was following him out and apologizing for him and told us not to worry about it. We had some scratches but not really damage, but that overhanging roof was very loose. He obviously also lacked woodworking skills. Our RV was only 27 feet long, but still couldn't make the turn. Got to wonder what Campground manager's/owner's think of when they have obstacles in the way and then tell people they can fit. And then can't figure out what the problem is!!!

Common sense goes a long way here. When there's a chance that you might drag the rear end of your camper, you can't rely on someone else's judgement if you feel yours is better. It's better to get out and assess the situation than to take someone else's word for it. In your situation I would have gotten out and looked at it myself. Wow, compared to my 40-foot RAPTOR Toy Hauler, your rig sits way lower. I think that my rig would have made it in and out no problem. So sorry that you had this experience.

Same here, 44ft Raptor 429 and it sits higher also.

I was curious about that. I've been eyeing the momentum series just because I love grand design, but this trailer seems to sit really low and the hydraulic stabilizer legs seem to hang very low as well. Some of the sites I've been at, I wondered, would I even be able to do this with a Momentum?

@@MyBucketListDay this might explain why the campground manager has had other large rigs in this spot with no issues.

I've taken my 34' Montana Fifthwheel up some serious mountain roads before not even camp grounds and haven't had any issues yet. I like to push things to their limits and honestly I've made contact with my overhang on the bed, not by a lot but it was touching a little and still didn't drag the camper anywhere. I think his big momentum is just made for pavement which is kinda sad, might as well stay in a hotel at that point lol.

I first bought 35 ft. fifth wheel and soon found out it was to long for the places I want to go to. I ended up with a flat bed truck and put a bigfoot camper on it. It was easier to learn to live in smaller spaces then it was to risk damaging that big rig. Driving that large vehicle ruined my RV Adeventure. Thanks for sharing !!!!
