Just purchased one of the goldtops on 4th of July sale from Guitar Center new for $550 with tax. I got an incredible deal on it (better than my previous 1959 Epi LP) so I’m thoroughly satisfied. If you can snag one for a low price they’re definitely killer guitars, I wouldn’t have paid the $999 for it though. Bargain hunt my friends!

This guitar is like having a 1966 Chevy Chevelle SS with a 4 cylinder engine. Beautiful car with no muscle. I have an Epi Limited "59" & that instrument is stellar. Epiphone knocked it out of the park with that guitar. Right out of the box the set up was spot on! I recently brought it to a new luthier to get its 1st set up after year of playing it & he was unaware of this model. He was shocked that Epiphone had made such an amazing guitar!! My next Epi is going to be a Gold Glory. I just played one not to long ago it it was tight! That P90 is the shit!!

I prefer my Epi 59 standard. Epi made some upgraded models like the Lazarus and the Slash after the 59. All a little different but meant to enter the higher priced market. Nice commercial trick but very obvious. This guitar is not worth the price.

@@ciggy_ I love the epi 59 so much I ended up buying 2 more onto of the 1 I already had and I own 2 gibsson custom 58 reissues and all 3 epi 59s are damn near as good I took a set of custombuckers out of one of the 58s and put in some Duncan whole lotta humbuckers I had laying around and put the custombuckers in one of the epi 59s and now both guitars sound better . The custombuckers were top bright in the 58 but one of my epi 59s was really dark and had so much low midrange that it overpowered the upper frequencies. Not muddy or anything just really unbalanced but now with custombuckers it's brighter but not overly so and it's super clear and balanced and alot less honky and nasal but best of all with the CBs it's sounds like a custom shop gibson those CBs are better suited to the epi . I have 2 other sets of CBs and they won't be coming out of the guitars their in . The other 2 epi 59s are incredible sounding as well . I had originally planned on swapping out the BB2 and 3 in one of the other 2 because I did not see the point of having 2 with the same pickups but even with the same pickups they still wound quite different and both are equally good but different. One set is a little hotter then the other so they will stay the same for now as I can't decide which sounds better and they are different but I have a set of Duncan seth lovers that were a little too dark in another les paul which was dark to start with and one of the epi 59s is pretty bright so NY curiosity might get the better of me . The Seth's did have a cool sound. They sounded like jimny page but a darker version of his tone . The epi 59s are incredible guitars and the best examples stand up very well to gibson custom shop les Paul's and they are better then low end gibsons . Even if you can afford low end to mid range gibsons I would buy the epi 59 instead. I have put my 3 epi 59s up against several les paul tributes and les paul studios and it blew the tributes and studios away. The tributes and studios felt like toys while the epi 59s felt like high end gibson usa les Paul's and I am very picky .I have returned alot of gibsons over the years but the epi 59 are staying put in fact I want to buy a 4th one. I have 2 cherry bursts which look quite different one sounds better but the other looks better but both sound and look great. I have a royal tea burst 59 which was a long and mcquade exclusive color but I really want a darkburst to complete the collection of available colors in canada it blows me away how well the epi 59s stand up to my 2 58 RIs which are amazing guitars and are keepers for life . The gibson 58s and epi 59s both sound like vintage les Paul's just different flavors of vintage les Paul's. The epis do the fatter warmer smoother vintage les paul sound while the gibsons do the brighter more twangy more biting clearer version of the vintage les paul .

I fully agree. I have one in vermillion burst and swapped the bridge pickup for an SH-5 as I found the guitar sounding pretty bright. Excellent move, it now sounds huge! I’ll soon install an APH-2N to make it sound as I want. It’s however not a bargain and I think it doesn’t sell very well as I now see a 150€ price drop in Europe.

I bought 2 of these when they first came out and retailed at $849 and got 20% off from one of the bigger retailers. The probuckers are nice and are hotter than the standard Probuckers I have in my 60s standard Epi. I eventually ended up putting in the Slash SDs and a switch craft switch in the Appetite Burst I have and now the thing is just ridiculously good. I think at $999 it should come with the SDs and isn’t worth it for the current retail price. These are very nice guitars however and I’d say the fretwork is better on these than the 50s and 60s standard (at least mine were). I would say if you want the most bang for your buck, get the ‘59. I have one of those too and it’s by far the best deal. If you like slash though and want one of these awesome finishes (I also have the anaconda burst, which is just beautiful) try to find one used at a good price (seem a bunch in low 700’s and put the SDs in them and you’ll be satisfied and it’ll be worth every penny. Just my 2 cents.

At $899 I thought it was good but not great. The fretboard always looked dry to me on the Slash models no matter what color I saw them in. I was disappointed that they didn't put the Duncans in but I tried one and thought they were good. When they hiked the price to $949 I thought it was decent but that I'd be better off looking elsewhere. At $999 I wouldn't even give these the time of day. It hurt because i was actually excited that the Anaconda burst was coming back but seeing as how these new Epiphones came out,I think I'd be better off with the old Epiphone Plus Top version of Slash's sig. I'd already be wanting to put locking runners on it so I was already looking ar Kluson Revolution tuners but I can't just spending this much on something that's considered budget that,in my opinion, doesn't look as good as the predecessor nor has the Duncan pickups because it just makes me feel like it's honestly a waste of money at that point.

I almost bought this guitar, but I ended up going with the ‘59 for the same reasons. The ‘59 has USA Gibson Burstbuckers pickups, Mallory caps & CTS pots, plus a hardcase for $100 Les than the Slash. I did play the Slash at my local GC, & I must say it did have that “Gibson Les Paul” feel to it, but I’m quite happy with the ‘59. I did buy the Slash J-45 acoustic, & it’s an awesome guitar, but I’m not too crazy about the thicker neck. I have an original Epi Slash Plus top from the late 2000’s & it has the same semi-chunky neck that I’m not crazy about. I could have bought the none Slash Inspired by Gibson J-45 for about $250 less, still with solid top, back & sides, & most likely a thinner neck, but with no case. Like you said, Signature model Epiphones hold their value & even appreciate their value sometimes. I own 6 signature models

The old 2008 was a limited number production, and has better specs/components from the factory. The moment they introduced this model, as a 2008 owner, I felt like they had watered down the quality/name. The 2008 also had some cool case candy... studded Slash strap, book, picks, the case has the Slash logo... just a more interesting, actually limited run guitar it seems like, but I haven't played one of the current ones honestly to A/B compare them.

Great assessment, I agree 100%. I have one & love it but its not worth the extra money compared to the other two Epi Les Paul Standards. I also have the 50's LP Standard which was obviously less money. I ended up upgrading the Epi pickups on the Slash model to Seymour Duncan Slash pickups & upgraded the wiring from the cheap plug-in style to a real 50's style wiring. It made a big difference but at my level of playing I probably didn't need to do it but glad I did. I also had to have the frets leveled because of how bad they were before. Its now a bad ass Epi Slash model that I would put up against any Gibson version. I also upgraded the 50's LP with Seymour Duncan Jazz & JB pickups, upgraded the wiring to 50's real wiring & leveled the frets. While it was my choice to upgrade the pickups they really don't need to upgraded but I'm glad I did. I was super disappointed that the frets had to be leveled. That should never have been needed. In the end I could have gotten another 50's Epi LP to save some money & added the upgrades but I do like the different neck profile. With all the extra money I spent its about half way to the cost of the Gibson model. Because of the fret issues I am a little hesitant to get another Epi guitar. I should have never had to level the frets on a brand new guitar. Overall I couldn't agree more with your conclusion on this guitar. Thx!

They are not bad guitars per se. Most Epi LP standards are fine guitars for the amount of money they USUALLY cost. And that's the keyword here, usually. The problem is that for over 10 years, the previous Epi Slash series releases (different colors released between 2008-2019) had Slash's actual Seymour Duncan pickups and better build quality than the standard Epi so a $300 premium in price made sense. The current Slash Epi has no upgrades from a standard Epi LP, no Slash pickups either and is still priced at around the same $1000 price point the prior version with better specs was priced at.

I bought both the Anaconda burst (@Thomann) and the Vermillion burst (@Music Store Koeln) a couple of weeks back, for €599 each. Considerable price drop from the listed price in the video, and as fas as I'm concerned, in this price bracket incredible value for money, especially for a signature model. I'm gonna use them as modding platforms (i.c. Ernie Ball strap locks, Grover locking tuners and DiMarzio PUs). In that respect, some of the greatest and most aptly priced Epiphone Les Pauls I've seen in quite some time.

I own several of the Epiphone les Paul’s including a slash model . I like them all. If money was an object I probably wouldn’t get the slash model as my other epi les Paul’s are just as nice but I wanted one to add to the collection and I’m not disappointed . I also own several Gibson Les Paul’s which I love so even the slash epi is a deal compared to the gibsons. I will say I’m happy with them all . All the Epiphones are less expensive so I buy them when I see a good deal .

When I was looking to buy my new guitar, it was between the slash sig model, the prophecy, or the limited edition 59 les paul. In the end, I liked the 59 the best. And 100 bucks cheaper than the others. For the sound I wanted from a les paul, the burstbucker 2 and 3 are just an absolute killer combination

I scored one for $150 off. It was listed as "Blemished". I still feel it was a little over priced. But I wouldn't have paid the full $999 that they're asking now. It's still a killer Les Paul and after I dialed in the pickups in, they're quite a bit better than the Probucker 1&2 in the 50's Standard.

I was lucky enough to purchase the Appetite Burst model before prices took a huge jump. I also have a November Burst Gibson model. Both guitars are great players but the Gibson definitely sounds much better than it's Epiphone counterpart. I plan to replace the pickups some time in the future. Epiphone has really stepped up their game especially with the "Inspired By Gibson" collection.

So watching this in the future a few years later. I have the Gibson slash afd and I just picked up an epi slash anaconda in a trade. (It needed the bridge ground resoldered and it was back to perfect). Once that was sorted it was back to sounding perfect. The pups took some good tweaking to balance out and the neck pickup is pretty bassy. But epiphone nailed it on these. I pick it up and it feels almost the same. My only gripe is the Indian laurel finger board is a little light for the green anaconda color. But a little ebony stain and I will have that sorted. Anyone on the fence about this guitar pick one up.

It’s a great guitar From the lower line EPI Les Pauls I’ve handled the Slash EPI Les Paul stays in tune allot better and the fit and finish is way nicer also not hard to switch out the pickups that would make it a totally killer guitar easily. Seriously if you just have to do a pickup swap to make it killer well why not. It’s only money right?

The guitar sounds great but at the $999 price point it doesn’t seem unfair to expect a little more in terms of features. Comparing it to other signature guitars in the Epiphone line up. For $100-$150 more you could get the Matt Heafy Origins or the Jerry Cantrell Prophecy which both have locking tuners, ebony fretboards, plus Fishman Fluence pickups. Or Jerry Cantrell’s Wino which is $100 less and comes with an ebony fretboard. I guess it just feels like it’s missing something when compared to previous Epiphone Slash models or other current Epiphone signature guitars.

Ik im late to the party but I was just recommended this video, I bought my Epiphone Slash Les Paul Standard in Appetite burst at my nearest Guitar Center Location, and while there I tried out a Epiphone 1959 reissue among other Epi LP options. After narrowing things down and playing both the Slash and 1959 Reissue side by side I took the Slash Standard home, it both sounded and played better to me, I also have a 2020 Epi LP Custom and the Epi Slash is my main, hands down love it mainly for its neck profile. For the record the pro buckers in Epiphone Slash models are customized similar to the current Gibson slash guitars using custom burst buckers that are more suited to match Slash’s general tone. Still diverse pickups but I can that they do for sure sound different than the run if the mill pro buckers in my LP Custom and maybe that is why I liked the tone more than the Burst Buckers in the 1959. Have no desire to swap them out, however I do plan to swap my Epi Customs pickups as I have the guitar center exclusive blackback finish and for the years gibson made a limited quantity of tuxedo finish customs they used T-Tops with Alnico 5 magnets so thinking a set of gold tone Seymour Duncan Saturday night specials would suit it more. But love the slash lp as it is, might upgrade the switch and jack to switchcraft ones tho, and at that point I think it would be on par with a 59 reissue spec wise aside from the pickuos which again sounded better to me, at least the custom pro buckers in the slash model did, I compared with other Epis in store as I said and there is a difference in the pro buckers the slash models have over the standard pro buckers

I've been buying and trading in collectible instruments for over 35 years. When it comes to Gibson, all the molds are broken. Their signature, Custom Shop and Reissue guitars most definitely DO NOT hold their resale value as a general rule. In fact, the only reissue guitar that Gibson has made in the last 40 years that has the true potential to become collectible is the 1986 Les Paul Junior. If anyone wants to know why its collectible, ask in the comments and I will provide a brief history. \ Free pro tip: If you're looking for a guitar that will keep its resale value and be worth more than what you paid for it, the first step is to avoid anything that has the words, "Custom Shop", "Reissue" or "Signature" associated with them. Cheers!

You are definitely paying a little more for having Slash's name and graphics. That's expected. But if this said Gibson on the headstock people would say it's the best deal ever and they'd buy and play the shit out of it. I would have liked a fit/finish comparison to your Slash 4 LP, as I recall you pointing out problems right away on that one (tooling msrks on the fretboard).

I have an Epiphone LP 50s Standard and I found the Probuckers not as good as the Gibson Burstbuckers that are in the 1959 LP or the Lazarus, that I have also. So I replaced the Probuckers with SD Seth Lovers, which are still affordable compared to boutique PUs. Man, what a difference! I also purchased a nice case from Gator and a leather strap and paid well under 1000 Euros altogether. So that is really worth considering, especially when you prefer the gloss finish over the satin finish or if you like the neck profile of the standard better.

Never got the appeal of signature guitars. Their resale value is not a factor for me here. I value a guitar that is 'mine', made unique by its history and the work put into it, way more than a nominal copy of someone else's instrument. Having additional logos on it, like on the back of the headstock here, actually cheapens the guitar for me.

It's funny because it's the same story in the Gibson line up. I have the 50's Standard, and also bought the Slash November burst. If I had not got the killer deal I did on the Slash, I wouldn't think the "name" was worth it. They both play and sound fantastic, the Slash has more bite with uncovered pickups and is a little brighter overall but it's subtle. They both are beautiful guitars and I play the hell out of both of them. However, the premium from 50s standard to Slash model is all in the name. Yes the slash has some strap locks and some slash picks in the case candy.... but they feel and play so similar that if you blindfolded me I'd have a tough time telling them apart (sans pickguard). I do have to say the necks feel slightly different, perhaps the roundness to the shoulders on them. That being said, you'd have to break out a micrometer to gauge it.
