In this video we finally get the assembly completed on the beautifull ES 335 kit from Solo Guitars. This thing looks awesome, and I love the hardware that went into it. Brass nut, railhammer pickups, solo pro locking tuners, gunstreet wiring shop harness... it's beautiful.
Honestly, getting everything in place on this one was pretty difficult. If I every do another one, or if I end up rewiring this one at some point, I legitimately may end up cutting an access hatch in the back and just making a cap for it. We shall see.
Check out the guitar kit, tuners, etc.:

I bought one too. I dyed mine to a Gibson Cherry finish. I've owned a couple of the Gibson 335's and they nailed it as far as the wood. Hardware was a little weird and cheap but it's pretty inexpensive to upgrade. I spent another 300 and got a great guitar now. Love your videos!

@@BradAngove I spent many hours playing whack-a-mole with the electronics in a ES-335 kit (from a different vendor) recently. The combination of crappy kit wire and my own substandard soldering skills made this part of the assembly an experience I do not wish to repeat. However, I learned one trick, which is to set the guitar on its side while pushing the pots and wiring into place: that way you're not fighting gravity quite so much to get them into their holes.

I love wiring, but I'm a technologist. I hate painting, sanding and buffing. It's a lot of time and work but you accomplished a great guitar. It's a lot easier with twine ( aka string) to get the parts pulled up into the holes. I showed that technique on my firefly rewire video.

Such an awesome burst on this one! Almost unreal. I am more of a chrome than black hardware guy, but the finished result here looks great, and more unique for not picking chrome or gold I suppose. Those Railhammers are going to sound nothing short of awesome. I'm thinking you may want to put a dab of glue under the nut? From the video it looked as if it is unsecured - but maybe you already took care of it off camera? The string tension will hold it down, but it may get knocked out of place if the playing gets a bit heavy handed.
@BradAngove
@BradAngove 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I’m still not 100% sure I will be sticking with that but. Once I’ve decided I will put a touch of glue to hold it in place.

Hey Brad, would love to see a base coat video... like how different shades of primer, or using gold/silver will affect the top layer. Like (for example) I'm thinking of doing candy apple green and wondering light grey primer? gold flake? gold pearl? metallic gold? I don't think I've seen one of those videos yet.
@BradAngove
@BradAngove 2 жыл бұрын
That’s a good idea Thomas. For candy green, I would typically suggest a grey primer and silver base. A gold base will give a different look/hue, but that may of course be what you’re going for. Just make sure the gold is more yellow and not at all orange or you will end up with brown.
