Fun thing about the last band. They are from Italy and do dwarf themed songs, so its not just for this cover. For a while they also had a feud, as a joke, with another Italian metal band with a fantasy theme... Elvenking.

Well this is something I never ever ever expected, @Yogscast is where it's at. Yogscast were huge in the MC scene back in when it was released 2010-2013, Simon played a dwarf (the one singing) and Lewis was his idiot friend and company partner for their channel for their shit WoW Guild/Tutorials. They based this on Simon's dwarf character (from his WoW days from which the channel was created) when he started singing this during one of the episodes.

yup, was there, silly fun. All the people I knew started being Dwarves and singing this in channel while playing. Myself and my friends also played Lord of the Rings Online, playing Dwarves and played the second one there via their instrument system. When Wind Rose hit, we're metal heads, we ate it up. It is STILL played whenever we play together. Some good old guy fun. LOL

It was a throwaway joke from Simon of the Yogscast and then it became an epic Dwarven anthem. The Minecraft community picked it up, Yogscast community sings it at the cons -and totally doesn't sound like a cult or anything- 🤚 , even a choir sang it because The Yogscast community donated millions of dollars to Oxfam one Christmas (They still do charity every Christmas season), there is even an unmentionable rap version that should remained buried, and then Wind Rose made a cover that sent it truly mainstream.

I totally forgot it existed until about a year ago when I'm going down the road and Amazon Music plays this song that sounds so familiar, but metallized. Simon's minecraft skin is of a "Fantasy" dwarf. They were joking that the stereotype of fantasy dwarfs is that they typically live underground and all they do all day is dig...and dig and dig. And they usually sound scottish. lmao. So like you, they were kind of like ... well I'm going to build something...simon what are you going to do? And Simon (the dwarf) being cheeky was like...i don't really know. I guess since I'm a dwarf I'll just do what dwarfs do best. Dig! and started to sing that song because that's kind of like a dwarf like thing to do...Hi ho hi ho it's off to dig we go. Sing a song and dig dig diggy hole. lol Well prior to this they already had a huge fan base and were primarily a "Minecraft" channel on youtube. So they had resources to make high quality videos. To be able to produce an animated music video of that game clip really stood them apart from just a normy gamming channel. Usually their music vids would go pretty viral. And this one in particular was one of their firsts and most popular one. Honestly, this is a very generational small niche cult following thing. One of those things where you can say "if you know.....you know" If you don't...don't worry about it. You probably won't get it anyways. Like the great civillization of Rome the Yogscast Channel grew too big and eventually had too many creators on it which ultimately imo caused divisions, lack of direction for the channel and a poorly overworked Lewis who carried most of it on his shoulders. When he tried to invest in others to take on the responsibility of the now "company of Yogstowers" scandals started happen, people got fired...others left to persue other opprotunities....mental health issues in some....living distance problems etc.... The slow degrading of Rome. But! It's still around! It's not in it's glory days anymore but the guys are middle age and still need money. It's still their main job so they still have content up on there. The minecraft days are mostly over but the main allure has always been the pointless funny English Banter between Simon and Lewis.

So sad to hear you didn't get much out of Minecraft. It's a wonderful way to spend time in distraction and imagination, the only point to it being to explore the randomly generated world and re-shape it however you like. From 'Flying around' it sounds like you started in Creative Mode which I think is the worst way to get your first experience with minecraft since it assumes you already know what you're doing and just want to dive in. Survival mode is where it's at and gives you an experience that starts small and branches out exponentially with the simple goal of not getting yoru face eaten to help keep you steady on-track. Contemporary survival/gathering/crafting games like Rust, Seven days to Die, Ark: survival evolved and the like all started with Minecraft as their original inspiration. People have done so much dope shit in Minecraft, from re-making the Taj Mahal to creating working 16-bit computers.

I was holding my breath for Wind Rose's rendition and was *so* happy that you enjoyed that version. Their brand of "Dwarven metal" speaks to my little gamer's heart, as I've played fantasy TTRPGs for many years. The only other version of this song I had heard before was the one right before Wind Rose, and although I knew the song originated with Minecraft, I knew nothing about how it came about. Interesting! I hope those two guys made a little $$$ off of this song evolution.

Some history: The first house music version was composed *by a fan* just as the Yogscast main channel was _really_ getting big. The orchestral version was released *by the Yogscast themselves* as a celebration that the YogTowers organization had made it big. An actual company where everyone made money producing gaming videos. The background chorus is their whole stable of presenters at the time. Which brings us to *the Wind Rose metal song* which came out around the time the Yogscast made some _major_ renovations. Some people were kicked out, including their business manager - for Weinsteinian antics. But it wasn't their cursed midas touch that made the Yogscast profitable. It was the charming _cast._ - Which is why they got a cover! Still is. Charming, that is. And profitable!

There are groups of youtubers who make minecraft videos of them playing together such as Yogscast, Hermitcraft, Alphacraft, and many more. Often people who are fans of those content creators are also creative themselves, either artistically or musically. From what I have seen there is a very welcoming and supportive community for creating fanworks for such things. Also, some of the mid to larger popularity minecraft youtubers will pay music artists to make background music for their vids so they don't have to fuss with copyright claims, so you end up with pretty good relations both ways. Two musically inclined minecraft adjacent people I can think of off the top of my head being Elybeatmaker and Jono. Docm77 I believe has a thing where artist can submit fan art of his character and he uses those pictures for his video thumbnails with credit to the artists. Minecraft itself is a game that requires an ability to set your own goals. Sounds like you were playing in creative mode as you mentioned flying around. There is a survival mode as well where you actually have to go out and gather the resources you want to use and fight monsters, make better forms of gear, weapons, and armour, and there are a few kind of 'boss' monsters you can go out to fight. That lends more of an exploration tone to it. Personally I think GoodTimesWithScar, Grian, PearlescentMoon, and Mumbo Jumbo make some pretty impressive stuff. Welsknight Gaming is calming to watch, though he hasn't been making a lot of minecraft vids for a while due to burnout. Minecraft is also pretty cool because you get things like The Uncensored Library, which is a virtual library that people can access even from countries that are very controlling over what sorts of media their citizens are allowed to consume, because some little block building game seems harmless. There are also people who do things like make sci-fi starships to scale or recreate towns or cities both real and from fiction.

Oh. You need to explore the fun side of metal. Wind Rose is a great start. "Drunken Dwarves" is a fun drinking song. And "We Were Warriors" is a very touching song from them. "Gates of Ekrund" is very theatrical. Or you could explore Gloryhammer. I would suggest a few of their songs. "Gloryhammer" (yes. It's the same as their band name), or"Hootsforce". (such a catchy song) Or you could go for comedy gold and listen to Nanowar of Steel. I love "Valhalleluja". It has the lead singer of Gloryhammer playing Odin. I also love "Uranus". Gosh, it's amazing hearing the Yogscast referred to as just "these two guys" now. I remember when they were THE KZfaq celebrities just all over the front page for everybody. Sadly, they've diminished greatly over time due mostly to loss of top tier talent (losing Honeydew/Simon was ROUGH for them, not to mention the various scandals over the last few years losing them several more) and to some extent due to refusal to give the fans what they wanted (looking at you, Shadow of Israphel).

The Yogscast was one of the first channels to make any sort of narrative content in Minecraft back in 2011. That is where the first clip came from. As many others have mentioned, it started from a rather popular channel called Yogscast that did videos of gaming and this was from one of their sessions where they were bantering about Simon's dwarf character while p0laying Minecraft back when it was Huge... one of their "subscribers/viewers sampled that session and set it to music, which they enjoyed and it inspired them to fill out the song a little more... Simon wrote the rest of the lyrics and the crew of Yogscast got music done and a studio and sang the third version which was eventually animated for the video you saw... a bit later a self proclaimed "dwarven" metal band added their own unique flair and an awesome "metal flavor" to the song and completed the journey... I can never decide whether I like the third or fourth versions either and I play it QUITE often just for the sheer fun and joy it brings.... Yes... occasionally a silly internet meme breaks out and lasts and may retain it's place for a very long time... That being said, many of Wind Rose's songs are absolutely EPIC, even if directed and composed from a "Dwarvish" point of view... they keep releasing albums on that theme (much like Sabaton's warrior theme) and are carving out their own rock and metal niche! Hope you explore more Wind Rose or maybe some "pirate metal" (and a bit silly) from Alestorm!

Speaking of minecraft, I recommend the video "What Minecraft Is Like For Someone Who Doesn't Play Games". The author persuades his partner to play various games and does not explain anything to her. And of course it records. In the beginning, he gave her a lot of classic games with clear rules and clear goals. And then he gave her a minecraft. And at first she was completely overwhelmed with the game saying nothing and telling her to do nothing. She was constantly looking for a way to "win the game". But when she realized that Minecraft is not a game to be won, only a game to be played, it opened her eyes to limitless possibilities.
