Red Velvet 레드벨벳 is a South Korean girl group formed by SM Entertainment. The group debuted on August 1, 2014, with the digital single "Happiness" and four group members: Irene, Seulgi, Wendy, and Joy. In March 2015, Yeri was added into the group.
Since their debut, #RedVelvet has released two studio albums, one reissue album, and nine extended plays in Korean, with ten of them topping South Korea's Gaon Album Chart. Their singles "Happiness", "Ice Cream Cake", "Dumb Dumb", "Russian Roulette", "Rookie", "Peek-a-Boo", and "Bad Boy" have all charted in the top five on Gaon Digital Chart, while their singles "Red Flavor" and "Power Up" topped the chart upon release. Additionally, they made their Japanese debut in July 2018 with the extended play #Cookie Jar. Regarded as one of the most popular K-pop groups worldwide by Time and Billboard, Red Velvet has received several awards for music, choreography, and popularity, including the Golden Disc New Artist Award in 2015 and the Mnet Asian Music Award for Best Female Group in 2017. The director of the Korea Foundation for International Cultural Exchange cited Red Velvet as a major contributor and one of the country's most talented idol groups who have "largely promoted K-pop" while discussing the Korean Wave in 2018.
Red Velvet is known for their 'dual concept' dubbed as their "red" and "velvet" sides which influences their styling and the music they release. The group's "red" half produces singles predominantly of the pop genre due to its bright and more youthful nature. Their singles "Ice Cream Cake", "Dumb Dumb" and "Red Flavor" are such examples. Their more mature "velvet" concept has spawned tracks primarily in the R&B genre. Their singles "Automatic" and "Bad Boy" are considered to be part of the "velvet" concept. They often incorporate other genres for the two sides, mixing them with genres such as electronic pop, hip-hop and disco. This dual concept has earned the group international praise for their versatility and diverse music.

One of the girl groups that doesn't have to put so much effort to act so cute or use small voice for cute songs. One of the girl groups that doesn't have to act so sexy for matured songs. What a nice balance between both red and velvet concept. For me, there is not denying that RV able to camouflage in whatever concept that they are ask to do. I can see the differences between every comebacks. Big differences I must said. I can see versatilities, varieties, between each songs. Good job RV. Keep doing that in the future. Fighting 💪

I only like three Kpop groups and Red Velvet is one of them. This video shows perfectly why I love them: their versatility, to be able to evolve, change and experiment their sound. It’s a testament to them as artists that they can pull off songs like Automatic, Be Natural, Bad Boy and Kingdom Come while also coming up with songs like Ice Cream Cake, Power Up, RBB, Zimzalabim and Happiness. Love their catalogue of music so far.

I am proud to say that I'm a Reveluv since 2014 ! *I remember how they received hate during their debuts* , especially because of f(x) situation back then, people didn't like the fact that SM started a new girl group (and the controversy about the 9/11 scenery in the first Happiness MV didn't help...). But for real I fell in love with the girls, and became a huge fan after "Be Natural". I'm so happy to see what they achieved and the fact that they are famous and loved today

Me too, Red Velvet went through a lot...more than other kpop group but they still bring the best to the table. It was so hard during the first year. Honestly I started stanning them hard after Yeri was added before that I was only a regular fan. Being a Reveluv is the best thing ever.

This is the real reason why red velvet has the best discography in k-pop. They are not scared of experimenting different concepts. Being a reveluv is the best thing I ever did, if there is a comeback, we would guess what concept it would be, is it red or velvet, and they never disappoint us when it comes to their side track. Stanning red velvet is like stanning different groups ❤

I'm not big fan of k-pop, since my background is Metal & Electro, but Red Velvet made me like this music genre, and maybe is because of their versatility performing various styles, from dancing rythms to precious ballads. Now I'm in love with this girls =)

I just really love Red Velvet and their music. They really change my mind about kpop. Red velvet is the only kpop group that i really love. The most bipolar group ever. A flawless discography. Powerful girls who hate that shitty aegyo (I just don't understand how come someone like it). 5 best visual girls! I love each one of them.
