The main church in Monza (Italy) is dedicated to Saint John the Baptist and has a majestic concert of eight bells, considered the most beautiful in Italy together with Grosio in Valtellina. The eight bells were cast in 1741 by Bartolomeo Bozzi of Milan and ring together only four times during the course of the year, while on the remaining occasions they form musical chords of various kinds. The sound of all the bells is in this video made for the two most important Easter masses, in the middle of spring; the first clip is taken high up in the bell tower, right next to the bells, where there is a wonderful view of the city and all the mountains.
- The concert of eight bells is sung in the diatonic scale of A major; the largest bell weighs 3315 kg and in total the eight bells, cast in 1741 and very similar to those already filmed in Cremona Cathedral, weigh 11137 kg.
The first church was built in 595 by Queen Theodolinda as the palatine chapel of the Royal Palace. The new basilica was equipped with many gold and silver ornaments. Upon her death in 627 Theodolinda was buried inside the basilica. The basilica was rebuilt to coincide with the opening of the first Jubilee in the history of Christianity in 1300. It is one of the most beautiful churches in Italy and holds numerous works of art, some of which were stolen by the French when Napoleon decided to become King of Italy. The left main chapel was built between 1444 and 1446 and is the best known part of the church because it houses the famous Iron Crown, used over the centuries for the coronation of emperors because it contains one of the real nails with which Jesus Christ was crucified. The bell tower of Monza Cathedral is eighty metres high and was built between 1592 and 1606. The treasure museum contains many valuable works of art, also dating back thousands of years.
