Join us Fam for one of the scariest movies of all time, as we react to The Exorcist. No matter how much I watch it, I still get goose bumps, and am always shocked at the brutal nature of this possession. Happy Halloween, Enjoy Fam!

There are so many things you won't catch in a single viewing. I've watched it so many times, and find something new each time. I will also say, this is the most theologically accurate horror movie I have ever seen. Watch the beginning again. The moment Father Merin finds the trinket, he is followed by the demon. He is almost run over, he walks past praying men who have their butts aimed at him, etc. And if you notice, just before he sees the statue of Pazuzu, a shadow passes over Merin's head and the wind blows, and he sees the statue for the first time. That means the statue wasnt there a moment ago. And that's when the dogs start fighting, indicating the demon is there. Another interesting thing that I only recently noticed is that when Reagan's head turns around, it's Burke's voice that she speaks with. I personally think he put the cross under Reagan's bed, and that's when the demon pushed him out of the window. Like The Shining, The Exorcist is a masterclass in visual storytelling.

Regarding the vomit shot: the story is that actor Jason Miller was expecting the splatter to hit his chest, but director William Friedkin "surprised" him by aiming it at his face. That's a natural reaction you're seeing from Miller, who remained professional and stayed in character.

Great job by Jason Miller. I don't know if I could do that, especially when it hit the mouth. I would hate the idea of projectile vomit hitting me like that. I suppose that's why he's the well paid actor, and I'm not. haha. Thanks for sharing!

Subscribed. Really enjoyed your recap follow up. I, like you, every time I watch this movie I discover something new. The layering that ties together to an intense climax is remarkable. I’ve watched several reactions to this movie and at the end when Chris is packing up to leave, everyone always say “yes get out of there” or “it’s about time”. The demon could not give a shit where its victims live. Before Chris speaks with the detective, she lays the crucifix on the small table by the stairs. When the detective leaves right before Chris runs up the stairs, the crucifix is not on the table. Creepy as hell. Timeless classic.

Thank you very much. I went back to the movie at the point you mentioned, and I noticed the cross not being there as well. It's my guess that Reagan came down stairs and grabbed it while under possession, and went back up stairs with it. We know what happened next. That is a chilling thought. Thanks for pointing that out, I had wondered why she had another crucifix at all. Thanks for the sub.

At 16:13 Why, oh why, does everyone constantly shout “Yes, it *is* important!!!” as if Karrass is lying to Chris MacNeil or is just being totally ignorant of its importance??? Don’t people realise that yes, he *knows* it’s important and so he’s just trying to spare the mother until he’s certain it’s contributory to firm evidence??? 🤷🏻‍♂️ This shouldn’t even *have to* be explained.

Yes, years ago, I noticed “Tsasuke” as well and apart from you and I, I’ve never known anyone else (critics, reviewers or otherwise) who’ve spotted this. I was only 14 when the movie was released, so I couldn't get into the cinema to see it, so my only option was to read the book. However, at the age of 16, I managed to sneak in to the cinema with my cousin and saw the movie. It terrified me, especially going home afterwards to a dark and empty house as the family were all out. I saw the original version which, in my opinion, is better than the director's cut. The reason I say this is that the 'spider walk' sequence is pretty poor... not only in effect/quality but also that it was just a little tooooo much and completely unnecessary. No real context to back it up, it was like a scene added for the sake of adding it. It served no good purpose. Also, one 360° rotation of the head was enough... they didn't need to do it twice. Each time, it was obviously plastic, more so in one of the two (can't remember which, but I think the second time). The power it still carries, the fear it continues to instil, the quality of writing, direction and acting along with the cinematography - for me - completely masks any sense of dating. By the way, the inclusion of the great character actor Lee J. Cobb as Detective Kinderman was a genius bit of casting. Also, Jack MacGowran was well cast as Burke. You may remember him from his part as “Feeney” in “THE QUIET MAN” (1952). If you haven’t seen it… that’s a classic you *have to* see.
@CocktailFlicks
@CocktailFlicks 10 ай бұрын
Daniel noticed that one immediately. I too have watched this one several times, and never noticed it until now either. I think the spider walk was added for shock value and to give the directors cut some purchase value, but if I'm being honest it still gives me the goosebumps. I have not seen The Quiet Man, but would not be opposed to a classic. Thanks for the recommendation, and for watching with us.

There was only one 360 head turn, which was during the exorcism. When she speaks in Denning's voice that is just less then a 180. In the book Karl put the cross under the pillow and gets knocked out the 2nd time, which was right before the crucifix scene. The book also has Regan breaking Dennings neck because she/demon thinks he is banging Cris.

As a man who's seen this movie in 1975 in theater, when I was 7 (YES 7!), and as a movie collector for a 40 years now, I can say, first, that The exorcist is the best horror movie ever, and that never will be better horror movie than this. Also it's one of the best movies at all. Second, I can recommend you some other horrors from 70s and 80s... The thing, Halloween 1, Poltergeist, The fog, The omen and Amytiville 2: The possession. Third, just for fun, there is a list of 6 best movies of all time, but just FOR ME: 1. Titanic 2. Braveheart 3. Schindler's list 4. Shawshank redemption 5. Gladiator 6. The green mile Greetings from Croatia!

Great reaction and review guys. You’ll find it interesting that the director actually specialized in documentary films prior to this, which would explain the films realism, sound design, and lack of music. Great catch on the Japanese phrase, you are the only reactors I have seen to catch that. With regards to Regan’s drawings, the one with the tree and fruit, you’ll have to flip it upside down to see what she really drew. I personally interpreted the devil saying “it’ll bring us closer together” as Father Karras being his planned target all along (as well a exacting revenge on Father Merrin) Anyways, you earned my sub.
@CocktailFlicks
@CocktailFlicks 10 ай бұрын
Thank you very much. I like your interpretation, and it makes sense as Father Karras was loosing his faith that the demon would be interested in him. I am having a hard time figuring out the tree Reagan drew. I see that it isn't actually fruit, it looks more like bats. is that what I am supposed to see or is it more? Thanks for the sub, I look forward to hearing about the drawing.
@thebelovedone2
@thebelovedone2 10 ай бұрын
@@CocktailFlicks yes, it does look like a tree, with things hanging from the branches, and a big hole in the middle of the tree trunk. Now screenshot it, flip it upside down. Remember Regan’s paper mache red bird? It’s a demon named Pazuzu. In the drawing (flipped upside down) these demons are gathered around a central pillar with a face on it (maybe Satan himself)

We rented this movie on VHS cassette many years ago and I'm pretty sure we only got a little 21" CRT TV back then. But I must admit this remastered version is so much better. And oc this also really Made Mike Oldfield's music famous. I bought his "Tubular Bells" LP Album shortly after. Cheers 🥂

I would have been so lucky to be alive when this came out in theatres. What an experience of the senses that would have been. I didn't see this movie in it's uncensored version until I was about 21, so a long time, but now I can't get enough of it. Mike Oldfield did an amazing job with the least amount of music to work with. That's how you know they were the best at making masterpieces. Cheers to you as always!

At the time that the movie was filmed, actor Max von Sydow was only 43years old. The character of Fr. Lankester Merrin is suppose to be 70.

The green stuff coming out of her mouth was pea soup. So that explains the green color. When you see their breath in her room it was not a special effect. They achieved that by building that set in a walk in freezer that was constantly. Keep cold enough to see everyones breath so it would be film like 5 to 10 minutes get out and warm up. Then back in to film some more until everything was filmed. This is a classic for a resion it did everything just right. In a good pase it took its time and built up to everything. The last newest movie even remotely similar to this one I seen was the movie Smile. The other possession kinds of movies being made an coming out. Fail in comparison they are literally and figuratively like a paint by numbers painting. They are so predictable it's not even funny. Like the movie Talk to me non spoiler but I seen the commercials alone for it. Then I was like this is going to happen then that is going to happen. Then that is going to happen just from the commercials alone. Then I watched someone react to it an I was 100 percent correct before I even seen the movie. Then when it comes to the demon from Israel. In this movie someone on KZfaq did a explanation video on it. Along with explaining why someone would worship it its simple in a way. Like the expression fight fire with fire if your in a religion full of demons. You pick the strongest one an worship it so any other demon that wants to get to you. Has to go through that demon first so fight evil with a more powerful evil. So its evil but it protects its worshipers from the other demons. Then I left a comment under your Nightmare on Elm Street 3 video. Explaining the real reason that horror movie characters never really die. That or completely disappear its the same reason. Then to me the one an only movie to watch on Halloween night. Is Trick R Treat 2007 because in it Halloween is the star of the movie. That movie is about the rules and traditions an mythology an lore of Halloween night. That is the story plot of the movie itself. You can also see the rest of my Halloween movies under the question. You left under that video as well wich leads to when you whore talking about. How people fainted during this movie that also apparently happened during. One of the movies on that list Terrifier 2 2022 along with people throwing up. That I can confirm I seen people making reation videos to Terrifier 2016 an Terrifier 2 2022. Some almost throw up the only reason they didn't basically is because they had empty stomachs at the time. Then some had to stop watching it completely them some. Randomly got up an walked away for a few minutes to recover. Let's just say Art the clown makes Michael Myers look like a child. When it comes to his killing methods basically forgot rated R an go to straight to unrelated. In Terrifier 2016 Art has 9 kills Terrifier 2 he has 9 confirmed kills all brutal and bloody and gory for 18 kills. John Carpenter's original Halloween movie Michael Myers 5 kills an John Carpenter's Halloween 2 Michael Myers has 9 confirmed kills. All R rated so basically tame for a total of 14 tame kills for Michael Myers. So Art is more brutal an basically has a 99 percent chance of killing everyone he comes across. Where as Michael Myers is more selective. This is a far comparison because Terrifier 2016 a Terrifier 2 2022 take place on Halloween.
