It's not even true that suddenly stopping kills you. It's the different parts of your body stopping at different times that kills you. If you could make your entire body decelerate at the same time, you'd be perfectly fine. Falling isn't dangerous because the force of gravity, no matter how strong the gravitational pull might be, is applied to your entire body equally. What you want to do is "fall" in reverse when you hit the ground, instead of decelerating only the parts of you in contact with the ground. You could do this instantly with no ill effect, no matter how fast you were falling, if you could apply the force to stop yourself to your entire mass at once.

18:30 - The reason launching trash into space is really bad is because getting into space is hard and unreliable and costs a fuckload per kg to send there. Recyling is just easier. Now if you are already in space you can eject trash out, but it's not great in the sense that even a milk carton could damage a spaceship if that spaceship goes fast enough and hits it. Debris is EXTREMELY dangerous when going at high speeds.

"This really feels like a new season, doesn't it?" Welcome to Book 3, folks. "Abaddon's Gate" has just opened, so strap in and be ready, cause here comes the juice! Also, as a book reader, SO nice to finally see reactors get the "instant deceleration" bit right off the bat. The others I've seen assumed it's something along the lines of "ProtoM ate him because he's human" or "ProtoM killed him because only certain things are allowed to pass". All of which is annoying given how the episode title is also literally the cause of death ("Delta-V" being a change in velocity; extreme in this case. So basically, death by science).

Just because the Ring is outside the orbit of Uranus, it doesn't mean that it is next to Uranus. It could be just another orbiting body around the Sun, with a completely different orbital period, and the fact that it is around the orbit of Uranus is just coincidence.

@@W0NK042 No, he didn't. He's absolutely correct. Pluto and a lot of the distant objects in our solar system are "out beyond the orbit of Neptune/Uranus", but they are on drastically different orbital paths than the other planets which are all on a relatively similar plane. Even for those other planets and the inner planets, being on a nearby orbit doesn't necessarily mean they are close by at any particular moment in time (or ever) because orbital periods lead to vast differences in closest and farthest approach. As an example, the orbits of Earth and Mars are right next to each other, relatively speaking and are on an almost identical plane, but the distance varies from 55 million to 400 million km depending on where they are on those particular orbits.

Rick is more or less correct: Taking into account the average distances across their entire orbit. Mercury is the closest planet to all other planets.

That's...not how the motions of the planets work, like at all. The ring created by "a very intelligent intelligence" is out beyond the orbit of Uranus for reasons that will become more clear eventually if you pay attention. ;)

I've read the books and watched the show, and I always kinda thought that it was arbitrary? What's your spoiler-y theory, if you don't mind me asking?

Maybe it's designed to take its own orbit just inside the orbit of the outermost planet (Neptune in Sol) which would make it work with the "beyond Uranus" (next inward planet to Neptune) observation.
