This video reviews the categories of aggregate expenditure (consumption, investment, government purchases, exports, imports) and shows how they fit together in order to count specifically the expenditure on an economy's production, or GDP.

Are parts/raw materials that are sent to other countries for assembly or finishing then returned to the US for a final production run counted as exports or imports? Example would be auto or aircraft materials/parts. Thanks Lesser valued exported on the way out of the US for finishing, increased value when it returns thus increasing import value..and ultimately effecting trade deficits...or no?

Exported raw materials count as exports; imported finished goods count as imports. If a US manufacturer exports two jet engines for $30M and then a US airline imports a finished plane for $100M, the net exports for the US would be -$70M. If instead a foreign airline buys the finished plane, then net exports would be +$30M.
