Anyway, we are discussing about the fact that our DNA has remained similar since the Roman Age, we are not considering the previous period. @Aurelian603 Yeah exactly. Anglos always take the word "blonde" on Roman documents too literally. In a Mediterranean world, where Scandinavian blondes are basically non-existent, the word blonde refers to a hair color that in Northern Europe would be described as brown. It still is like that in Italy to this day.
@calzabbath
@calzabbath 2 ай бұрын
Anglo culture has dominated the last 100 years in the West and they have taken their own perceptions of complexion to past societies, but I guess all cultures have that tendency. I'm Argentine so I can pass for a Central European like most people here, but I have noticed in my travels how people from different ethnicities have their own notions when it comes to colour definitions. For my Southeast Asian colleagues I could have been English of French while for the Nordic ones I was definitely Mediterranean. Regarding the video, I think the portrayals are very accurate: a few slightly Germanic traits in the last stages, but the rest mostly and definitely Italic / Celtic in the broad sense of the term.

@@ROBERTOCARLOSVEN Don't exaggerate, we are not the same of Swedes of course but you have people like Mario Cipollini, Francesco Morini, Lorenzo Cerotti and many others that are blonde even when older chaps. Of course we are a brunette population overall but so are French and Brits for that matter.

When I was in Rome last year, at the museums we were told that as the Rome expanded towards Middle East, Africa and Asia, the emperors would be gone for years at the time conquering and living there, so they’d often have kids there. That’s why you slowly see facial features changing and more curly hair and beards…. It’s actually really noticeable here, that slow change in looks as they mixed with conquered lands. Great job! :)

The last truly "Roman" emperor was Vitellius. The Flavians were originally from Rieti (Sabina); the Antonines were of Spanish origin; Antoninus Pius came from Nimes (Gaul); Didius Iulianus was from Milan; the Severans came from Libya; subsequent emperors came largely from Illyria (now Croatia) and there was even one of Arab origin, Philip. After Caracalla, Italy was no longer a privileged province of the empire and even the capital was moved to Nicomedia and then Constantinople for the East and to Milan and then Ravenna for the West

the severans were half italian at first i believe but through julia domna and subsequent marriages you end up with people like elagabalus and alexander severus who were also arab. also they were punic not "libyan" (berber)
