The Facts of Life Season 6, Episode 5 'Cruisin'' - On a dateless Saturday night, the girls cruise downtown Peekskill in hopes of finding Mr. Right. However, a string of bizarre events leads the girls to hide out in their car at closed gas station.

About The Facts of Life: At the Eastland School in Peekskill, New York, Edna Garrett (Charlotte Rae) oversees the day-to-day lives of students who come from all walks of life. Under the care of this slightly nutty but always caring housemother is the beautiful, rich and spoiled Blair Warner (Lisa Whelchel); the witty, plump and impressionable Natalie Green (Mindy Cohn); Dorothy “Tootie” Ramsey (Kim Fields), the young and persistent campus gossip; and Joanna “Jo” Polniaczek (Nancy McKeon), a Bronx-born and bred streetwise kid whose tough exterior masks the brains and compassion she's hiding underneath. Whether it's the challenges posed by Eastland's academic and social scenes, the rise, fall and rebirth of the businesses they start and run together, or the comings and goings of new faces in school and town, including Edna's replacement (and sister) Beverly Ann Stickle (Cloris Leachman), the girls are always ready for a new challenge, and perceptive enough to learn from each new situation.

This was the NINTH episode filmed and the FIFTH to air - October 31, 1984. It was also Kim Fields' first episode since having her braces taken off (she had them put on before season 3 started). It was done with only one camera and no laugh track to give realism.

I remember when this episode aired. Halloween 1984. My sophomore year in college. I remember thinking how cool it was to be cruising in a brand new 1985 Cadillac Coupe DeVille. I've been a Cadillac buff since I was 8 years old. This model had only come out like 2 months beforehand and it was a pivotal year for Cadillac because they downsized most of their models and went to front wheel drive. I sat in one of these in the showroom when they were new. The following year I bought my first Cadillac. But used and one of the bigger ones.

Something odd that I noticed about this episode is that, unlike a lot of TFOL episodes, this one has no laugh track. Must’ve been considered a special one to scrap it.

It was just for this episode. It also was done single-camera instead of the three-camera format they normally did. It gave the episode more realism. Paul Haggis did a pretty good job with the way he wrote it.

@@user-wi6sh6vh8u They had new writers for this season and likely didn't think to have her on. They also got rid of Cliff. They actually filmed the episode Blair announced their breakup (#3) before the Summer of '84 episode (#5) - his last appearance. Also, they would have reduced Geri Jewell's appearance to only one episode, which her agent refused thinking the producers could have done better. She was never on the show again.

1:27 Rearview-mirror and both headrests still intact. I never see that on TV or Films with in car scenes. 2:30 From the street lights here I’m guessing this part was shot on one of the street backlots in Hollywood.

The car was actually brand new. It was a 1985 Cadillac Coupe DeVille. This episode aired on October 31, 1984. The car literally came out 2 months earlier. It was the first year of the totally redesigned downsized Cadillac with all but one model being front wheel drive. So yes, it makes sense that it was all intact.
