The Falcon and the Winter Soldier should have a been an action packed, cool "buddy cop" series about a couple of Avengers taking out some bad guys and getting into trouble. Instead it was a boring, race baiting waste of excellent character with sadly too few moments where it shined.

The kicker for me was when they made Sam out to be some oppressed black guy, when he clearly had a good life and wasn't. Meanwhile, Bucky, a white man, was LITERALLY enslaved, controlled and oppressed for about 70 years. They only think of people as racial groups, not as individuals.

Bucky only got beaten by the Dora Mulaji and they are supposed to be the best fighters on the planet, the Flagsmashers landed a couple of hits but never got close to losing a fight to them and he was holding back because he was having a crisis of conscience. Sharon is now a BBEG you're supposed to be shocked by her turn, that's kinda the point. Sam didn't feel oppressed by anyone other than his own feelings, he spent the entire show feeling he couldn't be Steve Rogers and realising he didn't have to be Steve, he had to be Cap and he spent most of the time arguing that he was Falcon not Black falcon, and telling Isaiah he was wrong and that the white man isn't the enemy and all he has to do was ask the current US people to acknowledge his miss-treatment and they would. The only person on the entire show who was bitter was Isaiah with good reason and he came around in the end.

Thanos is a alien super being, hes not really a "villain" anyway, as hes not bound to law on earth. If anything the guy finished his job and got to exile in peace, and was murdered by thor. From what we see on earth, Thanos plan worked quite well, vanishing 50% of the people and keeping some useful people around suddenly provides everyone with plenty of resources, houses and money (making it random 50% is kinda strange, as you would think keeping the most capable around would be strictly superior choice). But anyway, Karli is just a terrorist and at no point has any reason to exist.

It wouldn’t surprise me if Zemo had some outside writing or even that the actor had a hand in writing. One of the best scenes in Wandavision was the heart to heart between Vision and Wanda when he discovered the truth of his existence. Zemo is likeable, but the plot surrounding him makes no sense. He's an anti-super soldier zealot?! Who knows anything and everything about the super soldier serum and it's history?! Since when? and why? In Civil War, he wanted revenge against the Avengers. He didn't have anything personal against "super soldiers." He wasn't an idealist of any kind. He was on a personal mission against specific people. When he killed the Russian/Hydra guys it was because they were a means to an end and better off dead. He wasn't on a crusade to kill them. Why would Zemo be the go-to for these terrorists? He's been in prison since b4 the snap.

@haku8135
@haku8135 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Steve was a soldier. He killed LOTS of people. In First Avenger he just straight up used guns when he was with his squad. His shield was his primary weapon because it's really awesome, and iconic, but he didn't just bonk people and then leave. Dude was in WAR, he killed people. Tony kills people all the time too, the FIRST thing he did when he finished his MKIII suit was fly off and kill the fuck out of a bunch of TERRORISTS and then kept the last one alive, tossed him to a very pissed off crowd of civilians, and flew off saying "he's all yours". That guy was at BEST beaten to death by an angry mob. Justifiably too, this wasn't a bad thing Tony did, these guys were fucking HORRIBLE people. Really the only Avenger that DOESN'T kill people is Peter, and he's just a kid, the others are adults and most of them are professional soldiers(Even Peter puts his suit into kill mode when he's fighting a hoard of alien monsters, so it's not like he's DEAD SET against any killing at all. He just doesn't wanna kill humans, which makes sense as again KID). Tony isn't a soldier, but he's a realist and was effectively reborn in a terrorist camp where it was kill them or die, and his only friend there DID die in his arms. Bruce doesn't like that Hulk kills people because he doesn't have a choice in the matter and he's afraid of the Hulk's power. He still complies though because he knows the right thing to do is to stop these TERRORISTS and not just run away. The only way to call THIS kill in particular at all bad is because the guy "gave up", but even discounting his serum making it harder to make rational decisions, HE DOESN'T KNOW THAT. He can't know this guy's actually giving up rather than waiting for a good chance to PUNCH HIM THROUGH A BUILDING. These guys have super strength! Unless you are READY to capture them, which they clearly weren't, you HAVE to kill them outright. You can't risk it, they'll literally throw you like a ragdoll or worse they'll take a hostage and escape with added leverage. These are fanatics, you don't just trust what they say when you have no means to restrain them. Remember, last time someone with super soldier strength was stuck in an enclosed space with multiple armed men fully prepared to kill him, Steve won. He was a terrorist, he made his choice. Killing him was the right thing to do.

And sharon did show to have very good fighting skills when she beat up like 10 guys while bucky, zemo and falcon were in the lab place. Plus i remember in civil war, black widow also had kind of a brawl with him. And yea it was short but im sure she would have stood a chance if she had the super serum. Which karli and her group has. And to add up, bucky doesnt want to kill or hurt people anymore man, hes not gonna go all out like he once did on a bunch of kids.

Walker was the REAL main character. It wasn't what the showrunners intended, but think about it. Walker goes through the most, changes the most, and he affects the most change. Sam gets a new bird suit, steals Cap's title, and gives a woke speech about not calling terrorists what they are- terrorists. For most people, Sam Wilson will always be the Falcon, and for almost ALL people, Steve Rogers will be Captain America, always. Captain America doesn't sympathize with terrorists, Captain America doesn't race bait, and Captain America doesn't wear a bird suit made in a foreign country! And for those who need to know, the vibranium in the shield is from Wakanda, but it was made in the USA by Howard Stark. Vibranium was just the raw material.

Sam has no reason too either. It's not hard for a black man to have the shield. He's just a man with a shield. People are so much more than the pigmentation of their skin. But this show is telling me as a black man. That I can't be Captain America because no self respecting black man would? Get out of here. Don't try to be your idol. Allow yourself to be inspired by the best in your idol, but don't feel that you can carry that mantle and that it'll allow you to do all sorts of things because the idol would have "earned" it. To paraphrase Iron Man, if you're nothing without the shield, you don't deserve to wear it. It's not the shield itself, it's that the two men who wield it decide that they deserve to BE Captain America, with all the hubris that entails. The reason you have a hard time getting it is because you know better, and you're right to know better. Wearing a crown and calling yourself a king/queen does not make you a better person, but far too many people who don't deserve to be a king/queen will fight for exactly that and believe that they're worthy of it. Ironically, it's the people who are most worthy who believe themselves least, and least worthy who consider themselves most.

Either way, there's plenty of evidence to support some form underlying resentment to the shield and everything that comes with it. SEPARATING these factors from the shield itself doesn't make you right. And also--you could've made your point without being a dick.💯

@daveylex for fuck sake it's not 'pLaYiNg ThE rAcE cArD' it's a political study on the complicated history of the shield which in turn is a metaphor for America and how a whole lot of bad is often washed over in favour of looking at the good. That's literally why they juxtaposed isaiah and Steve because while isaiah is really bitter and angry now, the way they explain it is that he was just as hopeful, naive and virtuous as Steve was in WW2 but instead of being celebrated he was locked away. The whole series was made to show the complexity of characters in this universe because if Sam was just given the shield in endgame despite bucky knowing Steve longer without explanation and character exploration I think you, me and a lot of other viewers would call bullshit. And when it initially happened I called bullshit because it felt like they were skipping buckys cap comic arc for the sake ethnic pandering which is bullshit. With this show however we see a side to both Sam and bucky that while previously hinted at is now able to be better explained in this miniseries. This isn't even subtle storytelling it's blatant as well and if you didn't get it while watching the show and then chose to come on KZfaq and say all its doing is playing the race card then I have the feeling you're the kind of person who keyboard warriors Thier way through Thier ignorant life and then chooses to not reply when Thier called out on Thier crap.

It's great how, with the exception of Zemo and Bucky, they keep disrespecting Steve throughout this series too. With tropes like the "blonde hair, blue eyes" one for instance. Obviously it wasn't Steve's character that lead him to becoming Captain America - his unwavering determination to never give up and always do his best and work his hardest to protect and serve no matter what. Even though he was virtually always facing overwhelming odds. No, it was because he happened to have blonde hair and blue eyes. When they were scouting for super soldier candidates - "that's him" 👉 "that scrawny white dude's superficial physical traits are just what we need!" KZfaq keeps erasing the rest of my comment.

In episode 5, Sam says, "The legacy of this shield is complicated." The only real public controversy associated with it would be John Walker using it to kill a Flag Smasher. But of course, he's referring to what happened to Isaiah. No, Sam, that would at best be the legacy of the _serum,_ the shield has nothing to do with it! And Steve waking up decades later and saving the world multiple times, and then the _entire universe,_ vindicated the serum. The person of Steve Rogers, his superhero persona, and the shield all had nothing to do with what happened to Isaiah. And really, it wasn't the serum causing terrible things to happen, it was people, people that Bucky suggested in episode 2 were specifically Hydra. So in the end, nothing associated with Captain America as a person or any symbols connected to him had anything to do with Isaiah. That was all Hydra, if Bucky is to be believed. I'm tired of these forced woke narratives. I'm tired of creators ruining the lore of their own fictional universes just to pound a message into the audience's heads.

Couple of things to note about John Walker killing that Flag Smasher in episode 4 after Lamar died that, I think, make his decision a wee bit more justified. 1.) Said Flag Smasher was more directly responsible for Lamar's death than any other save Karli herself, because not a minute earlier he'd been actively restraining Walker so that Karli could beeline to and stab him. Because of that decision leaving John wide open, Lamar was pushed into tackling Karli to save his friend's life, which led to him getting punched into a stone pillar and dying. 2.) Not even 5 SECONDS before Walker knocks him down and executes him with his shield, this Flag Smasher tried to attack Walker by swinging a stone pillar into his face from around a corner, which Walker only really blocks because he intercepts it with the shield. Just with that one action, said Flag Smasher has proved that he's still an active threat to Walker's life and he was arguably a bit more justified in killing a man who could try and attack him if he actually accepted his offer of mercy, since he had no problem attacking Walker while supposedly fleeing for his life.

This is another problem I have with these Disney+ shows, as they are essentially long drawn out teasers for movie releases or future projects. I want a self contained story with a post credit sting, not something that dedicates a whole series to Monica Rambeau's origins and the setting up of Doctor strange 2.

Black Widow was supposed to come out before this show back in 2020. We would have seen Julia as the Contessa in that movie. I think Black Widow should have come out when this show did so it could have showed us who the Contessa is in the MCU.

There were scheduling problems due to the pandemic. a whole plotline involving the Flagsmashers transporting a virus was dropped. Julia, who plays Val, was supposed to show up with another character but that was cut because Black Widow (where she shows up) was supposed to come out before Falcon. Also Eternals. And Falcon was also supposed to come out before Wandavision. And there was a halt in filming and then some reshoots. Julia was literally only available for 1 day to fiilm.

all they needed to do for promoting racial harmony was to not call any attention to Sam being African American, instead from the first episode it should have been him in the new suit with the shield kicking arse, i don't think a single person would have had any issue with it, instead they tried to play games, your telling me an avenger and a serving officer in the military couldn't get a bank loan?

If the writers did any research on Sam's character and they would know it was stated in Captain America 2 he was a Pararescue Jumper. That is an Airforce special forces MOS, which would mean Sam would have to have a flawless character background, and then add on top of that he is an Avenger. Banks would fight over the publicity they would gain for helping out a hero who helped save the world.

It's a better viewing than Wandavision but isn't as smart a show as it thinks it is. It's entertaining with a few scenes that can be easily skipped. If you have got through the 'roll your eyes' moments in the mcu, then this show won't be to unfamiliar.

@@kalyanvadlamani7607 I ment the new issues in comics are bad like I mentioned earlier snowflake and safe space are easier to explain and YellowFlash(A KZfaqr,has better examples out there than I do) As for the show I didn't like how they were constantly just calling Sam a black man. Or that no one wants a black captain America because nowhere in the show did it show people saying this or even mentioning it until now. As for Bucky they weakened him down drastically(could fight captain America and now can barely fight karly) and his storyline was fine in the beginning but shoved aside except for zemo who just disappeared. And don't even get me started on the final speech of Falcon America

It’s so strange to me how they think they “empowered” Sam, when they portrayed him as struggling to beat Batroc who he handled pretty easily in the first episode, then he’s completely unable to take any action even when he sees Karli trying to murder people, culminating with her pointing a gun at him and preparing to pull the trigger, saved by something he had no ability to anticipate. So our new Captain America, because of his poor choices and inaction, should be dead on his first mission. What a triumph.

Walker and Zemo were the actual sympathetic characters despite the writing bc people are wise to the race pimping BS and the pretending fascism is good BS. You were on point.

I was annoyed by the fact there were very cool moments,but this "All black people are victims" threw me off. I am sorry, isn't War Machine a black guy in the MCU? He never suffered any racism,nobody called him "Black Iron man". Wasn't Ghost also black? Sam has been the Falcon for a while,nobody called him "Black Falcon". This shoehorned agenda left me with a bad taste. WandaVision - got fans hyped on various points,only to get BOHNER TFATWS - got a chance, people were hooked and - "I am a black man wearing the stars and stripes." / "Black Falcon" Next : Loki will tackle feminism and Female Loki will be the victim....

As a veteran I can tell you I would have been charged with a war crime for murdering that guy on the steps with the shield. He was captured and not fighting back. I agree the guy should have been killed with the rest. But the government would rather throw you under the bus to make themselves look clean. The show sucked and was boring.
