Mario & Luigi is dead... However, it seems like every other Mario RPG has found its place on the Nintendo Switch, so what gives? Well, in this video, we'll be discussing the history of the Mario & Luigi series alongside how and why the series might get the revival that it deserves.

There is a little theory that Fawful is still alive. In the beginning of Dream Team, if you talk to a pink Zeekeeper in the crowd cheering you on in a grassy portion, He'll talk rather strangely. "I HAVE EXITEMENT!" He says. It may be a small sentence, but it had a BIG meaning; HE'S ALIVE!!!(Probably)

I adore the Mario and Luigi games. Superstar Saga and Bowser’s Inside Story are more enjoyable than some of the 2D and 3D Mario games in my opinion

I really like the idea of them using a vibration mechanic for Mario and Luigi, it's the perfect match: An often overlooked feature for the joycons as the main mechanic in an overlooked Mario spinoff RPG.

Unpopular opinion: I honestly don’t think they should bring back Fawful. He basically committed suicide at the end of BIS. Also I feel they fully completed his arc. I also think there is more to lose bringing him back and ruining his reputation. What I want is a completely new villain that can stand on their own.

I agree wholeheartedly that if we get another it NEEDS to have Wario and Waluigi as playable characters. What I’d want to see is a dualistic campaign where your actions in one impact what happens for the other. Along with having Wario and Waluigi fight Toads and others who are allied with Mario and Luigi. They could probably also throw in Wapeach to make the game more interesting. There’s a lot of cool things that could be done.

They could just use Captain Syrup though. She's the closest thing to a Wapeach. She's a ruthless female pirate who uses seduction and wit to steal from her enemies. Also, it would be interesting to see her feminine wiles conflict with Peach's more modest and serious personality.

It would be awesome to see a revival of the Mario & Luigi series on a home console for the first time! As I'm hoping for a remake of Mario & Luigi Partners in Time if it gets announced in the next direct. But it would be interesting to see what they would do for a new game that would continue the series if it comes out for the Nintendo Switch 2.

Porting over the remakes could work. The Switch has a touch screen and one could use the TV as the second screen. Yet that would make handheld mode required and for the TV to be on at the same time.

Tbf we got Paper Jam which is already sort of that. It features Starlow as well which was in the past 2 games and a brand new adventure. Though it didn't do well as the past games, I still liked it.

@@voltron77 Yeah the SHroobs would be up next. Yet the tricky part is that there are no baby characters outside of Bowser Jr that they can use since Mario Jr cousins don't exist yet. However, crossing over with the Kirby series could make things interesting. Considering that Kirby is referred to as a little boy, baby, or jolly guy in some iterations implies that he's very young, probably no older than 6 years old at the most.

Thing is the first 3 games had a certain charm about them. Whether it was the characters, the story, the dialogue, gameplay or maybe them all. It was kind of missing in Dream Team and just straight up missing in Paper Jam. Still decent games but the vibe of the OGs wasnt there. As for the remakes the story and gameplay definitely holds up but the 3DS release plus the fact that no one was really asking for a remake since they didnt really need it, didnt help sales. Lets hope they figure out why the last 2 games didnt work because these games were my childhood and i would love to play a new one!

I think Dream Team did well on the character aspect, and having so many characters reappear from Superstar Saga up to Bowser’s Inside Story adds to the continuity for me.

Dream Team has some of the best battle mechanics in the series and at least has interesting characters, but it also has too many tutorials and feels like it has less personality than some of the earlier titles. Paper Jam, however, is probably a fine game but definitely misses the mark in several ways. I think with the survey and hopefully less strenuous deadlines/lingering debt, a new game could be as good as the original games while also keeping some of the newer battle mechanics.

I believe it would be best for a new Mario & Luigi game to come out in the early stages of the next console after the switch. Since each game tends to introduce their respective new consoles gimmicks into their games like, Super Star Saga introducing the GBA- Partners in Time showing off 2 screens on the same device. Bowser's Inside Story really capitalizing on the touchscreen and microphone features with the DSi. Dream Team with its gyroscope and of course, toggle able 3D. An entire new game using the next consoles interesting features would be a great start for a revival in this series.

The most fun part of Paper Jam is the glitch that let you clip Paper Mario out of one of his areas and explore the entire map while playing as just him

I Imagine they start with a remake of either PIT or Dream Team then assuming they do well, will be a little more experimental with the series. Like maybe going with full 3D models instead of 2D Sprites or have battles be in real time like Kingdom hearts.

I feel like that a new game to the series has a lot of potential in regards to gameplay, characters, and overall story as with a console that can run bigger games would allow more freedom to the process of making the game. Characters, playable or basic npc's, has the chance to be a bigger picture to the main story or side content if worked towards. Just imagine having a side story where you get to team up with Bowser's minions (not from the remake to Superstar Saga) and learn that sometimes they would like to not fight or even consider deserting the koopa king. Gameplay, for the bros or extras, can really be changed in so many ways. The example of Wario and Waluigi maybe being playable is a start but think of how expanded upon it'd be if switching from one group to another is implemented, like you could play as Mario & Luigi for a few moments in the game just to be blocked off and have to take a different route. With switching teams, you'd have two stories going on while it all joins into one big narrative.

I feel like Arte Piazza is a great choice when they're ready to bring the series back. They handled Mario RPG pheromonally and with that game being basically proto Mario And Luigi, it makes sense to bring them back. If the artstyle is gonna transition to full 3d which is the direction its already headed in, arte piazza seems like the studio that would be able to respect the original charm and artstyle of the series the best.
