Seeing Verna leave her own feather with the orchids for Lenore always makes me tear up a little. As others have pointed out, the other Ushers get an item that signifies their hubris and how it got them killed. But Lenore did nothing to deserve her fate: it was decided for her by a selfish grandfather before she was even born. So her item is something Verna symbolically took from her own body (signifying her own pain at having to take Lenore's life) and flowers, a typical and respectful tribute to mourn the beloved dead.

The Lenore Verna scene was so well done. Was a nice take on Death as usually Death is portrayed as non-judgemental. In TFOTHOU, her judgement is 100% clear on all of them and Lenore is the only one she's kind to.
@MURPHYCHACHO8 ай бұрын
@@duckheadbobI think it's possible that was a roundabout way of Verna calling Roderick and Madeline 'soulless' for their greed considering the constant presence of ghosts throughout the show. Yeah, they could all be visions caused by Verna or Roderick's worsening dementia, but I have a hard time believing that in a setting where an obviously supernatural being like Verna is running around that things like souls and ghosts are out of the question.

As tragic as this was, the fact that Verna put a bag of coke over Frederick's gravestone was hilarious. She held him in so much contempt that she couldn't help roasting him even after death 🤣

II Be silent in that solitude, Which is not loneliness-for then The spirits of the dead who stood In life before thee are again In death around thee-and their will Shall overshadow thee: be still. III The night, tho’ clear, shall frown- And the stars shall look not down From their high thrones in the heaven, With light like Hope to mortals given- But their red orbs, without beam, To thy weariness shall seem As a burning and a fever Which would cling to thee for ever. IV Now are thoughts thou shalt not banish, Now are visions ne’er to vanish; From thy spirit shall they pass No more-like dew-drop from the grass. I love how Augustus and Roderick's paths completely contrast each others : ° In the short term Roderick acquired vast money and wealth for himself and his children beyond his wildest dreams, because he was clever enough - or rather ruthless enough to know that blowing the whistle on his boss would have likely have cost him more financially - where as Augustus lost his job trying to do what was morally the right thing to do . °Ultimately though in the longrun while Roderick amassed great wealth and a corporate empire for him and his family , he was emotionally distant from his own childeren - who ultimately died as a result of his own greed -on top of everything else for all his wealth Roderick was miserable and self loathing in the end - where as Augustus - while not rich had a husband and children who loved him , had a strong bond and were genuinely happy . It took a while but ultimately Augustus got the last laugh in the end by just being a decent human being. His revenge is he gets the satisfaction of knowing just how miserable the Usher family were , which is why in the longrun he doesn't leek Rodericks confession : he's the better man and he knows it .

On top of that things would have been much worse for everyone if Augustus had given Roderick's confession to the public . Verna is a vision. A vision that is subjective. She is neither evil nor kind. She is the personification of KARMA . Those who do bad deeds sees her as evil , those who are harmless sees her in light . This is how the concept of heaven and hell works. Heaven is the peace of mind that will make you happy even if you have nothing in this materialistic world and hell is the feeling of emptiness you have even if you are the emperor of a mighty empire .

Something I still wonder about is what exactly killed Lenore while she passed on peacefully? The other Usher kids were killed by hubris and things that could be written off as by their own hands/accidents, while Verna instigated it without getting involved much (like she influenced Frederick to become paralyzed, but wasn't the one to bisect him herself). So, it makes me wonder if Lenore died from a random brain aneurysm or something? Because there was no previous scenes that hinted at what can kill Lenore in a peaceful way, and the deal Roderick made didn't specify how the Usher kids should die...
@violetteviolette33197 ай бұрын
Verna just had to take Lenore’s life, like it was a deal from her grandfather. No matter who you are, if you have Usher’s DNA, you just have to die from the prophecy. Lenore did nothing to harm anyone, but she had Usher’s DNA, that tragically was brought her to death. But Verna still has empathy for her, she was young, so Verna told her everything she should’ve known after she died. There’s no sign for Lenore, just her having Usher’s DNA is the sin.
@katherineheasley61967 ай бұрын
She says to a couple of the others that she could've done it peacefully while they were asleep, and even specifically says she could've given Frederick a heart attack if he hadn't been such a dick. I assume she killed Lenore by means of something quick and painless, like a brain aneurysm.

Okay you may or may not agree with this theory, and yes I know they were cursed but I am going to put it out anyway. I have a theory that, you know how Roderick was diagnosed with the same form of dementia that his and Madeline's mother had when she died. So my theory is that as Roderick's dementia progressed he killed all six of his children and his favorite grandchild Lenore, and when Madeline came to help him, Roderick was too far gone that he poisons and kills her. Thus gouging out her eyes to put gemstones in and cutting out her tongue so she have a chance to taunt him. And when Roderick is with Auggie giving him his confession, his grief and fear over what he had done was so powerful that he manifested a zombielike image of Madeline that both he and Auggie could see. Because if you think about it, the Zombie Madeline was kind of giving Auggie that chance to escape before she quite literally brought the house down on top of her and Roderick.
