Their fall was credited to them growing too big and partnering with Collider. Which required them dropping things that made them.....them. It no longer seemed like anyone was being themselves anymore

I miss the glory days of watching Collider Movie Talk daily and The Schmoes Knows Show weekly. Along with watching movie reviews and additional content from all the people of those shows on their own channels. Screen Junkies used to be great too but now they really suck and all the people that made Screen Junkies special are gone. John Campea was lucky to leave Movie Talk and Collider when he did and has continued to do well on his own. I still watch him daily. With all these big channels dying off it's made room for some smaller channels to grow bigger. Sean Chandler has really taken off and has become one of my favorites. He's really got KZfaq figured out as how to make it a sustainable full time job. I really hope he stays relavent for a long time.

Campea was the mastermind of Movie Talk and he still brings that feel every week. I miss all the personalities of Movie Talk together on the panel. I’m still baffled as to why Marc Fernandes decided to do to Collider what he did. The world of internet movie news seems like a volatile industry. The SEN Network channel has actually returned to the old Schmoes Know style though

Campea was probably my least favorite from the Golden Era of Collider Movie Talk but he's the only 1 with a quality daily show with that similar format so I watch him from time to time. It just goes to show you that it takes the perfect mix of talent to make shows work. Campea, Harloff, Mark Ellis, Perri, Ashley, Dennis or even Robert Meyer Burnett could come together and do a daily or weekly show and the 100K - 300K views would come back. #strongertogether #ripschnepp

I was going through some tough times back in 2013 and finding the Schmoes Know channel really helped me navigating through the ordeal. Kristian and Mark's banter was unrivalled, their chemistry was amazing, they complemented each other well and they had a fun approach to movie critique - they knew their stuff but didn't take themselves too seriously. Man, those were the times... I remember not being too crazy about the whole AMC/Collidger merger as I got pretentious vibes from Campea right from the word go, but it really is the way they reacted to the Red Letter Media/Nerdcrew parodies that got under my skin. Like, Mark, Kristian, Ken Napzok, all these people have comedic backgrounds, and they get so butt-hurt when someone calls them out on their BS ? And then there was the way they reacted to the TLJ backlash, like every one else from the MSM in LA, and Harloff's Disneyworld tantrum, but the breaking point was how they treated Robert Meyer Burnett. I never watched any Schmoedown content after that, not a single minute, and never will. This was a disgrace and I'm so glad that Robert has moved on to better things, because I can't imagine how painful it must have been to be backstabbed the way he was. I will always keep a fond memory of these 2013-2016 golden years, but yeah, what a fall from grace.

@@SnorkyO Last year, when retired police officer David Dorn was killed amidst the BLM riots, Robert Meyer Burnett got on an admittedly vicious yet understandable rant on Twitter. RB3 called him out on that but RMB didn't back down and a heated argument ensued. Other Schmoedown people jumped in to back RB3, with him and Dorina comparing RMB (a Jewish man, mind you) to a N*zi and Clarke Wolfe literally calling him "trash" and a mansplainer. Instead of trying to diffuse the tension and have them shake hands, Kristian sided with the mob and expelled RMB after the most awkward and embarassing podcast I have ever seen, in which he and Brett Sheridan were tiptoeing around the issue and deliberately ignoring burning questions from fans like myself asking "hang on a minute, if you fire RMB for inappropriate language and behavior, why not fire RB3, Clarke Wolfe, Dorina and all the people who insulted him and encouraged a twitter mob to go after him?". That was the proverbial straw for me. Later on - but it's only my personal opinion - it came back to my mind that while a liberal himself, RMB has always been cordial if not friendly with more conservative youtubers, such as Jeremy from Geeks and Gamers (an outspoken Trump supporter), Midnight's Edge and Heel vs Baby Face (him and Az do a weekly action figure show). Coincidence? I think he paid the price for his open-mindedness and that the raging leftists that are RB3, Wolfe and Andreyko were just waiting for the opportunity to kick him out. Again, just my personal theory. What's for sure is that RMB hasn't changed a bit, he is still his awesome self, doing shows with Campea as well as the aforementioned channels, and that he is probably well rid of these so-called "tolerant" and "inclusive" LA people who back-stabbed him.

@@b.chaline4394 I still watch Kristian's SEN content to this day and will continue to do so along with the Schmoedown, but I agree with your take on the way RMB was treated. I'm not on Twitter but I heard there was backlash and a back-and-forth, thanks for those details. I know RB3 is a major leftist and overreacts but didn't know about Dorina, Andreyko, and Clarke Wolfe getting involved. The way they axed him from the Schmoedown and all of them in general still doesn't sit will with me and was a total pile of bullshit. RMB was great for the Schmoedown and at the worst should've just taken a break from the league before returning. Still wish he was there.

There were a lot of reasons why the schmoes aren't the same. You touched on most of it like not doing the movie reviews which is why we all started watching them. Even tho i wouldnt say going to collider was a mistake but the collapse of collider ruined everything. Covid had its effect as well. Having everybody in studio made for fun tv. The schmoedown lost its pageantry when people stopped coming into the studio as their alter egos and the actual gang was there cheering on the competitors. Movie talk was apart of my monday through friday viewing and they did a good job for awhile giving us good content. I do think the loss schnepp and jeremy leaving along with others and then mark and kristian taking lesser roles as far as the talent in front of the camera hurt the shows but once collider switched gears to go a different direction it killed it. I havent watched collider since and i try to catch what i can of the schmoes but the only consistent content that pops up in my feed is schmoedown matches. I still enjoy them but half the time i have no idea who is even playing. I just enjoy the game. I hope they figure things out because there was like a 5 to 7 year stretch that i was watching something related to these guys every day of my life. Felt like family in a way.

The Schmoedown roots go all the way back to the first episodes of their podcast before it even had video. The first two Schmoe’s Know Podcast episodes (which evolved into the “Live Show”) were the Schmoes and Ken Napsok talking about the original Star Wars trilogy and the prequels. At the end of the episode they had Star Wars trivia calling it a Schmoedown, and thats where the Schmoedown originated.

I was shocked when checking in today that there basically no trace of their former dhow ans what appealed to me. But wish all the Schmoes the best. ✌🏼

There are a lot of circumstances that led to the decline of the Schmoes, and several other movie chanbels as well. Jedi Council became their biggest segment on Collider, but as the Star Wars movies progressively got worse, that show went down with the Star Destroyer. There was all kinds of drama behind the scenes that spilled over too with the fall of Collider and even Screen Junkies. I think that's why solo KZfaqrs like Jahns and Stuckman were able to survive. They didn't get sucked into the team up content that tends to create more drama and a decline in simplicity and quality. When everyone is special, no one is.

I’m glad to finally see someone talking about them! I was a huge fan of them for years, before they went to Collider and during their time there. Unfortunately they went all in on the Schmoedown and stopped focusing on what brought us in: just a couple cool guys talking movies. They’ve done podcasts but they’re so long and ultimately I don’t want to listen to 2 hours of them rambling just to get to the point of it. I really do love the guys but if they went back to their roots with the film reviews and then uploaded shorter clips from the podcast of them talking movies I think people would actually watch them again. John Campea has been a big success simply because he had the right format. If he only uploaded 2 hour podcasts every day I don’t think he’d have been anywhere near as successful. Sorry about the long post but I’ll end here. I’m still subscribed to the Schmoes despite almost never watching them the last couple years, because I’m rooting for them to get back to their best. Flick Pick's an interesting one, my guess would be KZfaq is more of a hobby than it is a job for him, that's why you see a guy like Jeremy Jahns put out 5 times the amount of reviews he does, plus I don't think he has too much passion for most modern movies that's why he'll always just reference random 80s movies instead, I have to imagine personal issues effected him and with his energy it'd be hard to always put on a brave face like that, but if you look at his second channel now, instead of just reviewing a movie everyone's already talked about he normally just does random live streams of him talking about stuff and its pretty fun stuff so if he's happy doing that then good for him.

Schmoes have a special place in my heart, I've been watching them for nearly a decade, and they played a big role in my development as a youngin in middle school. I fell off of schmoedown bc life, but I still support them and am fully sure they're the same to this day. I think it's more just time has a way of making people taking their own paths and that always seemed to be the case here. I miss the weekly schmoes show as much as the next guy, and I feel like this discourse doesn't encapsulate that at all. Of course it's never gonna be the same, has anything in life ever been though? I agree that some times during merges and whatnot it killed the comradery, but since then and now post schmoedown everyone can take a load off. They're independent now and they're happier for that, maybe hindsight is 20/20 given the time since this was posted, but since all of the things mentioned have happened, it's not controversial to say they've found their footing. I miss the days of weekly banter between them, Ken, Josh, etc, but they're all out there doing just fine as friends outside of their media following

The fun and edgy style took a backseat to discorse around polarising topics. 2. Talent became no.2 priority behind representation as if they all of a sudden was so aware and never had hot females read the headlines and then stay silent. 3. Fart jokes for fart jokes sake isn’t nessesarily edgy material, and overall they lost focus.

Ken, Mark, Mark, Alicia, JTE, Finstock, Kristian, Cody, Cobbster they all had something extra and their show was always based on having fun. The Schmoedown actually started with a match in 2014 between Cobbster and JTE. JTE was an intern back then and Cobbster had bullied him time and time again. That turned into the match. Then Mark and Kristian came up with the Schmoedown and the first tournement was held in 2014 with Mark "Yodi" Reilly as the winner. When Campea left Collider Mark and Kristian took over. That's when the MTS got really big. Season 4 of MTS was probably the best of them all. That's when you had KOrruption, The Shirewofles, The Fyffe Club. The matches were fun and exciting and the storylines were great. The problem for MTS and SK was the pandemic. I stopped watching mid season 5.

@@manikantasrao7868 I think the issue with Schmoes & Movie Talk is all the changes it went through. Collider took Movie Talk and ran it to the ground and then they had Collider Live which was doing fantastic. Then out of nowhere the owner decided to sack everyone and do.. whatever he’s doing now with Collider. Then Harloff had to start his own Live show. And that was exciting and great. But then it moved to its own channel, and then to Twitch. With how KZfaq is glitchy with notifications and such, it’s hard to keep the fan base engaged and in the know if their shows keep morphing into different iterations every year

I suppose this goes to show how far someone like other movie reviewer Chris Stuckmann has gotten. Things like video quality and his "set" has changed up over time, but by and large, still has stayed true to what led to so many people subscribing him to begin with, most likely due to the genuine passion and analysis he presents in his videos to this day, on a 2 million subscribed channel which consistently have hundreds of thousands of views. Rather amazing how one guy sitting in his room talking movies has managed to still keep a large following than guys how change things up all over the place in trying to be as big as possible.

Man, I remember watching these guys way back in the day before even the AMC Movie Talk days. Their podcast on ToadHop was the most fun, chaotic, and still somehow chill movie show I'd watched at the time. It really felt like a bunch of friends just chilling out and talking movies. Them and Jeremy Jhans had such a similar taste in movies to me, that whenever something new would come out, I'd check both channels to see their takes. I still watch Jeremy Jhans, as I think he's still got good takes, and just kinda does his own thing, but after a while, I just kinda forgot about the Schmoes. Them moving to AMC then Collider didn't help, as you could feel a more and more corporate leash being put on them with each move. It stopped feeling like a bunch of friends just hanging out and chatting movies and other entertainment, and more like a very produced show. Just my two cents.

I used to watch their reviews, on their original channel, but as that whole collider thing grew, and the Shmoedown, it started to get lame. They grew way to big, and started involving all these annoying personalities I didn't know or care about, their show started to feel a bit like a wannabe edgey Howard Stern show, and it was cringe. Kristian seemed like he was a piece of shit in real life as well, and it was starting to show. The collider people who annoyed me were John Rocoa (sp?) He was the one that made me unsub from Collider. Apparently the channel shutdown too. The smart movie review guys stayed solo and independant and didn't try to go under the umbrella of a corporation. I watch Jeremy Jahns, Mr H, and Red-lettermedia. I'm still subbed to John Campea too, but he's an obnoxious shill most of the time.

Right? Jeremy Jhans is really the only one from that era I still watch. He still has integrity, and slams shitty entertainment for being shit. He's also up front in saying that all the things he says are just his opinion, and you're free to disagree with him. He was smart for staying solo. I never really liked Campea. He just seems like a crap person and attacks anyone who thinks differently than him. He actually replied to a comment I left on an old AMC Movie Talk episode mocking me and attacking me for my take on why Joaquin Phoenix didn't take the role of Dr. Strange when his name was in the rumor mill. I didn't care for 90% of the newer faces they brought on, either. Over time, I just stopped caring.

I've been hoping someone would make a video like this for a while. I loved Schmoes and the period they were at collider. The reviews were great and the Schmoes Know movie show was a highlight of my week. I remember being pretty devastated when they announced it was ending. That was really the only time I watched the Schmoedown and I liked it at the time. But even when it was still at Collider I began to lose interest. I stuck around for Collider Live for a short while but pretty much stopped after Kristian left. And now I don't listen to them at all. I know they all basically each have their own podcasts. The Wanger Show is the only one I still continue to keep up with because those guys are hilarious. But I don't care about the schmoedown at all. It sucks because Kristian has tried to reinvent the channel time and time again and it continues to fail. The channel is a complete mess. He has invested so much time and effort into the schmoedown that I doubt he'll ever give up on trying to push it, at least until a few more years of failure. It's sad because fans loved what the channel was already but Kristian completely threw it out the window. Kristian is also terrible at handling criticism and continues to mock fans who don't like the direction he takes things. It's embarassing to watch. I remember him talking about so many hate comments on Collider Live that its exhausting to listen to. I still watch Chris Stuckmann and his content has remained relatively the same throughout years. He still pulls a decent amount of views. Just goes to show you can keep a loyal fan base if you stuck to what people like to see.

I agree with nearly every point you made. Harloff is good at reviewing movies but is terrible at running a business. He banned me at collider because I disagreed with him over the last Jedi (when he was saying it was good). So that pretty much ended my ability to interact with the chat and the shows so I found other communities where I have been welcomed and made moderator on channels with hundreds of thousands of members. But I do still remember those early fun days of The schmoe down before the shady pyramid scheme guy from collider got involved and Kristian decided to start making business decisions apparently randomly. As usual, something good ruined by inept management.
