In this new video series we are going to learn Achille Marozzo's Two-Handed Swordplay. Today, we will have a look at the first part of his Primo Assalto, the first series of techniques. They are great because you can train these with a partner or on your own.
Marozzo was an italian master of the 16th century, writing down his techniques in his book "Opera Nova". I use the translation by Jherek Swanger (link below). Marozzo's Two-Handed Sword (= spada a due mani) might also be known as a Spadone, Montante , greatsword or Schlachtschwert. These are pretty much regional terms for the same weapon. You are free to call it a longsword as well. ;)
HEMA (historical european martial arts) or historical fencing has the aim to reconstruct forgotten fighting techniques, learn how they (mostly knights) really fought back then in medieval and renaissance times. Thus, this video represents my current interpretation of Marozzo's techniques - especially the falso impuntato. Feel free to discuss it with me in the comments section :)
