Find out how Paul Goresh became John Lennon's walking partner and unofficial photographer, leading to the only photo of the ex-Beatle with his killer and the last pictures ever of John alive.
This video presents Paul Goresh's poignant recollections of what actually transpired on the fateful day of John Lennon's tragic, untimely death and the months leading up to it.
On the morning of December 8, 1980, Paul Goresh was just another obsessed Beatlemaniac, like the rest of us. By midnight, when millions upon millions of Beatle fans worldwide learned to their horror that John Lennon had been shot and killed by a lone gunman, Paul reached the highest echelons of fame in a New York minute.
Goresh, who famously snapped the only photo of John Lennon with his killer and what would be the final pictures ever of the legendary Beatle alive, could not have predicted the impact December 8, 1980 would have on the rest of his life.
After that fateful day in 1980, Paul Goresh would forever be linked to, and haunted by, John Lennon's murder.

john imo had nothing to do with Paul goresh's picture being the cover of watching the wheels, the first single from double fantasy was (just like) starting over and the second was woman and then the third, watching the wheels was released in March 1981, John had been dead 3 months,..... but they had to give credit to Paul, he did take the picture, ultimately Yoko had say over what the cover picture should be, she probably realized Paul had many pictures of John, or her and John, so she probably contacted him to see what he had, the reason I say that is because on December 16th, Paul received a package in the mail from the dakota, it was John's book he signed the day he died for Paul, so Yoko knew how to contact him... but yeah I can see Paul being happy that his picture and name were on the record credits

What a weird story. Paul was also a stalker, lying and entering Lennon’s house. It’s hard to imagine why Lennon would then befriend him? Very strange

Maybe he felt “Hell, he’s just fan” and noticed the persistence Paul had and in some weird way, persistence is respected, that’s probably why he let him walk with him from time to time, I think its amazing months later that John kept his promise to him and made sure Paul got his photos.

@@DezMoines Sorry for the long answer. I can see why you might think that this title is click bait. To me, it isn't. I'll tell you why: when it comes to video SEO, KZfaq experts recommend that titles should remain within 70 characters (including spaces). Although KZfaq has a 100-character limit for titles, anything longer than 70 will be truncated in most search results. Not great, from an SEO standpoint. And, as any KZfaq creator would tell you, SEO is the only way we can afford to promote our videos and support ourselves financially through ads. So, I used the word "shot" instead of, for example, "photographed" or "took the photo" in the title to keep it as close to 70 characters as possible. I didn't mean to create a click bait-type title. In any case, I feel that the video itself presents a never-before-seen Beatle story and is actually a tribute to a fan (Paul Goresh) who inadvertently and tragically became intertwined with John Lennon's assassination, which haunted him for decades. I hope you enjoyed it.

@@BeatlemaniacsAnonymous You are a real fool for putting Shot instead of photograph in your description - You need to do a better job going forward - You should be ashamed of yourself for trying to make Paul Goresh a simple fan - he was not - he was a viper amd a stalker who broke into John's home - Most of the Beatles fans are feeble -minded simpletons and i think you fall into this category sadly due to your lack of awareness - hopefully - you can learn from this and stop being so idiotic in your posts

@@TELEVISIONARCHIVES I want to sound like a jerk and I like a good picture of a celebrity but the way in which Paul obtained the opportunity for these photos is despicable you basically lied to perpetrate a fraud gaining access to the man's home and not to be trivial it was a pretty elaborate little skiing if you think about it disguising the van lying in order to obtain the information about a VCR so you can go as a supposed technician a box supposedly holding tools hiding a camera despicable man in at the end of the day he's a guy that lied for his own personal desire of getting photos of his idol and to be quite honest you don't know what events led up to butterfly effect whatever of him being assassinated I mean the man did take the picture of him with the killer didn't he. Sorry for getting on my soapbox and rambling but this kind of action meaning deception or fraud involving entry into one's home by lying it happened to me but my maintenance man for such a absolute pathetic reason I wouldn't want to have a lie or a deception on my conscience for something is trivial is coming in under the guise of checking a light fixture in my kitchen that he repaired and then when I questioned him saying you didn't repair that I put her 2 years pulling out his cell phone and taking picture of a cat that my roommate was watching for his sister who was out of town her funeral on her husband's side of the family. I guess he was spotted bringing in the animal in a small pet carrier and the assistant manager in the absence of the manager told the maintenance man what lie to tell to get into the apartment and what to do once he got in the apartment and the entire thing that angers me is this guy's got a key as does the manager that put him up to it and they could enter my apartment anytime they want without lying about it however this was done solely for the purpose of a assistant manager trying to get a pat on the back or a feather in her cap by the manager or by the manager supervisor bye collecting a fine or a deposit for the animal being in the apartment even it was just temporary we were informed that it wasn't allowed and left with no other option ended up paying $1,000 a $500 non-refundable charge along with a $500 deposit just for keeping the animals for several weeks despicable not as serious as somebody lying to get into John lines apartment but a lie is a lie and if somebody lied to get into your house and you found out about it you wouldn't be happy either sorry for standing on my soapbox but maybe this will bring some light to how serious the situation really was

I was 21 when I heard the news on Monday night football from Howard cosell. My heart went straight into my throat. I was numb. The Beatles, particularly John and Paul were like gods to me. I had to work the following day and the next few days were agonizing. I barely ate for days. The heart break soon turned to intense hatred toward the killer thinking about all of the devistation he caused to his wife, sons, family, the other Beatles, everyone. I knew it was a pain that would take a long time to get over. Since that time I have lost all but one family member ,gone through a divorce, became homeless etc. For me there is little time left in life and only distant dreams of yesterday. I cannot help but feel such sadness for Paul and his story. I was lucky enough to have been a friend of Paul for many years, and knew of the torment he suffered due to the tragic end of his friend John Lennon, and the role he played in circumstances surrounding John's death. Paul was grateful for having lived a dream that any Beatles fan would aspire to, but you could see in his demeanor after all of the years, that Paul was tormented by being linked to Johns death. What is so strange about this story is that Chapman is still alive, but John and Paul are no longer with us. Yoko still lives at the Dakota being able to view Strawberry Fields in Central Park, and must be haunted by the death of her famous husband. So sad! We miss you Paul and your friendship, and the world misses John Lennon.

I mean at that point isn't that trespassing and obviously I'm making this comment before the end of the video I don't know what's going to happen at the end of it but I don't think I'm going to stick around to find out nothing in my opinion could be considered redeeming about any of this.

As anyone can imagine, John would have called the police on stalker Paul Goresh at the time, but they would have been unable to do anything about it as standing on the street wasn't an arrestable offence in and of itself. John then did what many of us would have done too for our own self preservation: he tried to keep in relatively good terms with this weird but apparently harmless nutter. That's far from them becoming "friends", as creepy Paul puts it. He'd broken into his flat under false pretences ffs. Also, all those tales of walks around town alongside John clearly belong to the realm of fantasy. Every time he retold them and people listened, he was actually living what he dreamt one day would happen and - once John died - what he wished would have happened. He might have pursued him for a few yards once; the rest is embellishment or directly a fabrication. Luckily for him, by the time Paul came up with these outlandish stories to the press, John was no longer alive and able to deny them. No shortage of gullible people around either, ready to swallow up these bull**** claims. Lastly, any person with a modicum of integrity would have gone straight away to the police with the photo of Mark Chapman, not to the papers seeking to enrich himself. Speaks loads about this low life scoundrel and of the "love" he professed to feel for John. And if anyone believes a word about the made up after the fact excuse of police hanging up the phone on him, I've got a bridge to sell them.

@@davidgibbs381 How about John liked the paparazzi-style photo anyway? The people close to him say that John viewed this opportunistic creep as a stalker and nothing else; understandibly enough, I should add. According to Seaman, John's personal assistant, he always referred to Paul as "that fat f**k". He'd learnt to tolerate the presence of this annoyance of a man outside his house at all hours nevertheless; even to maintain a relatively cordial - although always distanced - relationship. Why not use his photo, if he thought it'd look good on a cover? It's not like dismissing it would have discouraged the obsessive "fat f*ck" in any way.

Were you in Lennon's circle or knew those who were? I'm curious - not being snarky. You're anonymous - who did you know in the know? Your post sounds more realistic than not. Lennon should have got a restraining order ... hindsight ... but that wouldn't have kept Chapman away. If someone really wants to murder someone - they'll find a way --- unless it's some body guarded high profile politician. NOT TRUE. Reagan was shot at not too long after -- pardon me while I google that. March 30 1981 - was when Reagan was shot. Of course he lived and I'm not keying anything else on that matter.

The Beatles helped shape my life. From February 7, 1964 until now and into my future, those four musical geniuses will continue to hold me hostage. They hold center stage in my life. And I am honored to be kept in ransom forever. The music in heaven is rockin’ 🙏🏻😢😘

When John still lived in England in the big white house a man "I think he was Danish" was hanging about outside, John asked why and he said he just wanted to meet him John invited him in and gave him some food and a hot drink, John was just a good hearted man, he should still be with us today.R I P Mr Lennon 🙏❤️🇬🇧

I'll never understand how anyone could be so lost to take a life. John just wanted to be himself. He was tired of the fame. He grew to trust Paul (the amateur photographer/fan) over time. You know, just like a regular person learns to trust someone. He signed his final autograph for Paul...Love. Losing John, losing George (as George had been shot by an intruder) is like losing someone you learn to love. The pain remains. 💔 I'm sorry Paul for your pain. An extraordinary video memoir.

At least at that time you could ask someone not to take a picture of you and demand the film. Nowadays everywhere you go you're being photographed and filmed by people you don't even know who they are or what are their intentions. This is the horrible side of the marvelous device called a smart phone. Before only the celebrities were deprived of their privacy now everybody can become a prey.

This has brought me to tears. When I was in the military I was kind of standoffish. Kinda selfish. This guy in my unit kept bugging me. I remember thinking what is wrong with that guy. Turns out we became very good friends. Really great guy! John told Paul that he didn't want him to look at him as a Beatle. John probably had a hard time wondering who his friends were. I think he found a true friend in Paul even if he was a fan. You can tell when someone likes you for just being you. The irony is before the Beatles John had found a true friend in Paul. And at the end of his life he felt like he had found a true friend. That's why he wrote love John when he signed the book for Paul.

It must be hard to be Ringo and Paul, too. They also have to be on the lookout for people who just want to rub shoulders with one of the Fabs or just want money or fame. I've read that it made both John and George very anxious to be in a room of people who would either interrupt their time with family or friends, or just stare at them. Paul Goresh was a decent guy who was too exuberant a fan at the beginning but grew to like John for who he really is during their walks. A sad story all around, since both men died at a very early age and were haunted by a certain amount of unwanted fame during their lives. Thanks for watching the video.
