Not a bad copy. Still the best and most honest film adaptation of FANTASTIC 4 to date. I interviewed Sassone years ago and he sent me a VHS copy of the film. It was a copy of the film transfer he managed to snag just before it got sealed in a vault, never to be seen again. At least, that's what Corman thought would happen but he severely underestimated the determination of the comic book movie geek community! Now if we could just find a way to hack into the WB mainframe and rescue BATGIRL and COYOTE vs ACME, I'd be REALLY happy!

Considering the microscopic budget on this movie (I think it was something like $250,000), I'd say they did a pretty darn good job. In fact, Doctor Doom looks better in this movie than in any other incarnation we've seen on the big screen so far, in my opinion.

@@jamesrawlins735 Well one thing that Kevin Feige has said about The Fantastic Four in the MCU is that there won't be an origin story, thank goodness. Kind of like how they introduced the Tom Holland version of Spider-Man into the MCU: He had a few conversations with Ned and that was that. So it's probably that the FF already are fighting crime somewhere in the MCU, unseen by any of our heroes so far.

He has directed 56 and produced more than 500 films. I don't know anyone who is in a similar position. He (also discovered and) supported directors like 'Francis Ford Coppola', 'James Cameron', 'Joe Dante', 'Jonathan Demme' (and, and, and). And has promoted careers like that of 'Jack Nicholson' to name just one.

No, 6ft4in "actor" playing Ben Grim but a 6ft actor playing his alter ego the thing was a crazy decision, I imagine at some point they were going to do that the other way round, having the bigger "actor" playing the thing and the smaller guy play Ben, but the worst thing in this movie is the wig Michael Bailey Smith has resting on his scalp, the idea was to make him look younger but it has the opposite affect, he genuinely looks in his mid 50's here, and lets not mention sue and johnny being kids at the start while Reed and Ben are clearly middle age. Yikes.

This was so much better than I had been led to believe. It took me back to my childhood days of reading the Fantastic Four comic books. Sure, it was a little (!) cheesy and the fx obviously aren't up to today's standards, but it has a certain charm, and for it's time it didn't do badly in that area. I've seen people say that it should be given better fx now, but that would destroy it in my view. It's a good, fun film and deserves to be left unadulterated. In the same way as the original Star Wars trilogy wasn't! Loved it.

This movie is campy, but almost in a good, authentic way. It also ventures into "so bad it's good," territory at some points. But at the end of the day, it's actually a solid live-action adaptation of the comics and is a ton of fun. It reminds me of simpler times when old super-hero and sci-fi serials didn't need to be taken too seriously, and they didn't need massive budgets to be fun. It's still my favorite Fantastic Four movie.

That's a myth. They absolutely intended to release until Consantin FIlms secured a deal with 20th Century Fox to make a big budget version. They canned this one believing it would taint the image of the new one, even though that version wasn't released until 2005.

@@tshelby5212 It had at least one screening, I think, due to the efforts of the cast. If so, there would likely have been some sort of promotional poster made for that.

I actually rented a movie in the early 90’s that had a trailer for Fantastic Four, in the coming soon movie trailers that were at the beginning of the rentals. It was the one and only time I saw anything about this movie until recently. When I saw a bootleg dvd at the flea market.

The real fantastic four movie that's better than the one that came out in 2000 something man I just can't believe they made a second one of those movies because to me this actually has better graphics and I just can't believe they didn't make a sequel to this but yet they make a sequel to that crappy one 😾😑

it has a dreamy quality, and that elusive thing called "ARTISTIC VALUE"! yes, it had bad acting, dialogue, and sound quality (doom sounded muffled most of the time) , but that all played into the dreaminess. it gave the comic books precisely the respect they deserved. no more, no less. best out of all the films. PS the hand wave and the end was hilarious.

If you were born before the seventies, then I gotta' say here, that was blooming brilliant. Why? - Because during the eighties and nineties, we believed in Batman (the original), we ogled in marvel at the Incredible Hulk, (with Bill Bixby in the lead), we also loved the Six Million Dollar Man, and even the Flash Gorgon reboot, but going back further: we collectively admired the original staring Buster Crabbe. This film is a masterpiece (and reflects the age it was filmed), it's what we expected way back when: it also plays on our own patriotic feelings at the time. Also, special effects were ground breaking, (for that period). Watch this with an open mind. Well worth it. 🥰
