Great video, Joe. I see that you are all healed up by watching you lift those logs up on the splitter, digging the holes for the posts and getting that shelter built. This past week or two we have had a lot of heat here, up in the upper 80's to low 90's and humid weather. Heck our grass is turning brown!! Thanks for sharing all this. Appreciate you and all the hard work you do and sharing that. Juddie

@NorthernSeclusion2 күн бұрын
It started as "The Farmhouse," as soon as we have the cattle here, I will be changing the video title to "The Homestead." Perhaps in the future it could become a "Farmstead." You can look up the difference in the last 2 terms. As "The Farmhouse" it is basically a hobby farm. Melissa wants to do her pottery and sell it, make soaps and stuff and do the same and also make videos on how she does it as well as her cooking videos. Once we get settled with the milk cow we can sell raw milk legally here (as long as you follow the loopholes in the rules) and we will probably do that. If that works we may get another milk cow, who knows. For all I know we will hate cows and get rid of them. Lol. Nothing is set in stone. I want pigs next spring because extra raw milk or the whey from making cheese is awesome pig feed. We want to grow our own pork and beef for the freezer. With the bigger garden and the added animals we will get closer to self sufficiency. All that said, it makes for good videos as well.

@@NorthernSeclusionI’m so glad that the antique kitchen will be used as a country kitchen for Melissa! I have been missing her cooking show for such a long time Joe. So excited to hear this news. The farmstead is coming along really well Joe, and is very nicely arranged for the garden, fruit trees, and now the upcoming cows. Lots of berries and garden veggie’s to harvest soon. Glad you decided to plant corn this year. There is so much you can do with corn. Remind Melissa that she wanted to plant some sunflowers as well. Wow the rhubarb has grown huge. We have lots of flooding here in Iowa as well as MN does. It’s just horrible. The tent seemingly was spared, that’s good. I can’t wait until Melissa can start her pottery, soaps, and maybe honey. I’m not sure what’s happening with any bees this year at your farmstead. Well, TC you two and keep on, keeping on! I wanted to tell you that I am glad that your surgery came off good Joe. What makes it a homestead? Homesteading use to mean acquiring land from the federal government and developing it into a livable place. What does it mean to you?
@NorthernSeclusion22 сағат бұрын
Yes it did mean that 200 years ago. Here is the meaning of the two in todays world. This is copy and pasted: Homesteading is a lifestyle of self-sufficiency. It is characterized by subsistence agriculture, home preservation of food, and may also involve the small scale production of textiles, clothing, and craft work for household use or sale. What is Farmsteading? Farmsteading as living on a homestead, but running a small business of the homestead where you raise your own food, but raise enough surplus to pay for what you eat yourself and possibly make some profit along the way. (Think farmers markets.)
