More snow comes to the Farmhouse after my trip to The Tent. I start sheetrocking the walls in the guesthouse but the furnace fails. I decide to replace the furnace.

I just had a thought when I saw all your mounds of snow, that if you have a low spot near your ploughed areas that water runs to in other seasons, that might be a good spot for a future dam (pond) that you coud dig out to the water table when you get stock and you could push your snow into that.

I'd run the air intake to the outside so there's always fresh air with plenty of oxygen. You can recycle inside air only so much. My furnace draws inside air, and the plastic on the inside of my widows balloons out, you can feel cold air being sucked in around the pipe holes at the tubs and sinks, like a beast starving for air.

If you cut the return opening out using the same device (saw), those metal shavings probably went into the motor and toasted it over a short time. The condensate drain in the 90+ furnace is reversible (will go out left or right for convenience). A pair of sheet metal shears will cut that opening. And it will prevent metal shards from infiltrating the motor. I might add, the only reason a contractor would remove a 90+ furnace is if the primary or secondary heat exchanger opened up. I'd check that out before doing too much installation work. Always better to go new for a reason. You be burning propane with a 'cracked' heat exchanger and just drift off as the carbon monoxide puts you to sleep and never wake up. If you do connect it up to gas, be sure to install a CO2 detector.

Sounds like the Capacitor was bad in the old blower motor, easy fix! I agree with another comment maybe it’s better to buy a new furnace and have it professionally installed. If you don’t connect your air intake to the outside and draw air from inside the house you’ll drop the efficiency of the furnace. That’s why they are so efficient! You’re defeating the purpose of a 95% efficient furnace!

Here’s the deal folks for those of you who don’t understand. By building this himself Joe has saved thousands of dollars. No one’s labor is as cheap as your own. What Joe wanted with switching the furnaces is the least amount of bullshit involved as possible. To him it was easier to switch the units out and move on with life as opposed to diagnosing problems, tracking down parts and figuring out how to repair something he could have much easier just replace. Plug and play. That’s why he did what he did. Less time, less bullshit and it’s done and he’s moving on with life.

The white one you see when I am filming towards the wood boiler is Melissa's son Brandons truck. The white one in the garage is Melissa's truck but it is only 2 wheel drive so in the winter she drives my old black diesel because it has 4 wheel drive and is awesome in bad weather. Old reliable is the truck I drive especially in the winter because it has 4 wheel drive. The black truck and old reliable are both rusty so they do not look that great at all. My new white truck I bought about a year ago has no rust and either does Melissa's truck. We drive the black one and old reliable because with all the salt and chemicals on the roads in the winter and since they are all rusty already it wont matter if they get more rust.
