Rebecca, is it? Thank you so very sincerely! Your obvious enthusiasm for your subject and your so very gorgeous singing, and your absolutely infectious “joie de vie,” make me both laugh and weep profusely, two things that, if I don’t greatly enjoy each day, I tend to a sort of vague distemper unto depression… I’m Gnostic, and Hildegard of Bingen overlays my beliefs rather seamlessly, perhaps even “shamelessly”… That this amazing woman was able to challenge the undeniably paternalistic and misogynistic frenetic frat boys in Rome, and have her way in her day, totally rocks my plimsouls! Her music is obviously divinely inspired (I, at least, begin weeping within minutes!), and her lovely words excoriating the Papal pablum of the “F,S and HG” and their priapic pitilessness is astounding… I believe the true “Trinity,” is Jesus, the Blessed Nazarene, and Mary (the “Magdala,” not the “mother,” but the “companion” of Jesus… no “virgins” need apply!), and the Effulgent Holy Mother, “Sophia,” is a decidedly more “aligned with the Divine Feminine” crew than that “drag queen boys club” in Rome, and it speaks volumes… Mega-Namaste Rebecca, you are a balm unto my soul, and a lamp unto my feet! Surely goodness and mercy will follow us in hired livery’s which will wait outside upon our streets “until the girls say when” (ref. “Josie” / Steely Dan)… I just love you like great heavenly metaphors… “I’m in Heaven when you smile!” (Ref. “Jackie Wilson Said” / Van Morrison)… No one would even DARE to try to stop me from subscribing, even with one hand tied securely behind my back… - XOXOXO! Glenn Jones PS: “Gloria (‘in excelcis’), I think they’ve got your number, I think they’ve got the alias, that you’ve been livin’ under”… < > “Even now, If I see in my soul the citron-breasted fair one, Still gold tinted, her face like our night stars, Drawing unto her; her body beaten about with flame, Wounded by the flaring spear of love, My first of all by reason of her fresh years, Then is my heart buried alive in snow… …Even now, my eyes that hurry to see no more are painting, painting, Faces of my lost girl. O golden rings, That tap against cheeks of small magnolia leaves, O whitest so soft parchment where My poor divorced lips have written excellent Stanzas of kisses, and will write no more… … Even now, I know that I have savored the hot taste of life, Lifting green cups and gold at the great feast, Just for a small and forgotten time, I have had full in my eyes from off my girl, The whitest pouring of eternal light--“ from: “Black Marigolds” (translated from the Sanskrit by E. W. Powys)…

I was actually assigned a reading on Hildegard for my Medieval Women Writers course and was confused on the reading so I popped over to KZfaq and found this! The reading pretty much lined up with your lecture and helped me internalize what I was learning to fully understand! Thank you! I'm not really religious, though I did grow up Catholic and learning about this stuff at the age I'm at now is so fascinating. Hildegard was THE GIRL BOSS of her time.

I love that she was a consultant to the priests...like, she was that gifted. I had a vision of standing next to some royalty (?) inside very crude cave like dwelling. i felt as though I were a consultant of sorts to the king/queen/priest/priestess sitting next to me on the stage above the people of the city. They were looking to us...I don't know what this means but I know it does behoove the elites to consult those who have preternatural gifts. I mean, look how JP morgan chase consulted an astrologer before boarding his nemesis on the Titanic. She said don't board it, it will sink. That was Evangeline Adams. I'm sure another iteration of our gifted ancestors.

Small corrections but crucial- her music is melismatic not neumatic. The notation system at that time was neumatic ( meaning symbols that not only represent pitches but vocal inflection and compound syllabic and melismatic movements); she did have her somewhat own idiomatic system which helps us understand her unique musical intentions. Also I believe the person whose burial she allowed was a suspected suicide, which makes her commitment to his being buried in sanctified ground all the more radical and imbued with her understanding of forgiveness and compassion. She may have described herself as uneducated, but that reflects her lack of “ formal” education. Clearly she was surrounded by literacy and scholarship at the monasteries; her extensive brilliant writings, poetry, letters, tracts and scientific texts show she can hardly be considered “ uneducated”.

I wonder if Hildegard didn't mention Jutta because of her asceticism which was extremely harsh - on herself at least. This is only a guess. Both Hildegard and Julian of Norwich stressed the great love of God in times when harshness was in vogue. Thank you for a terrific video. Paz y luz

Fyi, before you make a video about Jutta von Sponheim, her name is pronounced Yut-tah. Very common in many languages, and definitely the Germanic ones, for the J to represent a Y sound. English is a bit unusual in that the J is a hard G sound but that is not the case in German.

@@charlesdaues9439 Very much so. Pronouncing people's names is respectful, and not hard at all. Learning a second or third language is harder, but you will eventually have to learn how things are pronounced if you plan to speak these languages as I do. This is just one name. Because I speak and have studied Germanic languages, it's just automatic for me which is why I provide that example. I am just informing. No need to get offended at free additional information. I teach classes, and always check my facts before passing on info to a bunch of new people. So speaking from experience.

You were right. I just thought because of her youth cut her some slack. But I agree, hearing it repeatedly mispronounced is annoying.

@valeriy8502 2 жыл бұрын
@@charlesdaues9439 Again, just informing. I had to learn to do things effectively and pronounce clearly as a child much younger than her. Not harshly, people often take correction as harshness, it's really pretty neutral in my experience. It's how we learn, and being young is the best time to learn. I am not going to just ignore an error just because someone is young, much worse to go through life making mistakes that could be easily avoided. But also no need to be mean about it. It's just information.

Ah Hildegarde.. pioneering botanist, biological genius, prolific poet, writer of the highest regard. Mystic woman with visions coming straight from god on spirituality, humanity. Cosmologist. Astrologer. Canonized Saint. Grew up in a walled off room in a church, illiterate yet accomplished all of this in a prolonged life at a time when women were non importante n mortality rates were ridiculous. She sounds like old Le Compte St Germaine. A lil bit too unreal to be real. Really.

Sounds like she was a kind of psyop, planted by her noble family in order to gain favor, power, and authority in ecclesiastical matters as well as politics. I would even go so far as to deduce that she received very specialized training in these fields for that very purpose. The fact that she received so much financial support also seems a bit sketchy to me. This enigmatic figure deserves so much more attention and analysis than she receives. Thank you for this wonderful lesson, and for blessing us with your voice.

this was specifically an event for a medieval reenactment society, where in person events are all done in medieval clothing, and they encouraged the same for online events during the pandemic. As for the wrinkles, well, i've never been one for ironing in the first place lol, but keeping up with ironing sounds like a drag in the best of times, let alone during a pandemic. I think you're more disrespectful to comment on clothing when she's prepared a wonderful informative session.
