@@xKanastax i feel you to a degree. i'd say, it BECOMES all about the torque. when we alll 1st got on our 1st bike (no matter the engine displacement) we weren't necessarily thrilled by the torque, but rather the feeling of just being open/free on a bike and to have the power in your hand (rather than under ya foot lol). nobody gunned it their 1st time; no one went ape shit in the throttle, yet we all (real riders) had that exhilarating feeling... the ride.... THEN we started riding amungst other bikes and thus came the passion for torque. Having a bike is like having a gun, it does something to your ego. haha...

Been through soooooo many bikes that I can't remember them all. I now have two, a GSX1400 and a Rocket 111. I'm much more into the mussel bike side of biking. Never owned a bike with a fairing. Believe me it's not about speed. If you chase the fastest bikes out there you will end up dead. We have a saying here in England, you have bold bikers and old bikers but no old bold bikers. Please be safe out there, remember the road is NOT a race track!

I own a Hayabusa, a GSXR1000 and an R6. Have run all of them at the race track and generally can turn the fastest laps on the R6. The Gixxer is close, but it is harder to push the Hayabusa fast around a track, it wants to go straight. If you are a Moto GP level rider you can use the power of a liter bike, but for most of us the light bike with the short wheelbase is the winning combination. Going out to the salt flats is one thing but it gets boring pretty fast. The big bikes are fun to ride but to get around a track I will take a 600 or a 750.

Pretty dumb to actually state that the size of rear drive sprocket on a motorcycle affects the accuracy or calibration of the speedometer! Obviosly is completely ignorant of the way things work in real life. The size of rims and tires will change the accuracy and calibration of the speedometer. Now the sprocket sizes will affect the top speed of the motorcycle itself and also the power delivery throughout the rpm range.

Believe or not, some bikes read speed from places you wouldn't expect so yes sprockets may change it since the bike might read from the crank, end sprocket, rpm- and maybe a miqture of all. My zx6 reads it from 3 different parts to give an example

Shrug. My speedo is run off transmission speed not wheel speed. I think many (most?) bikes are the same. Gear changes affecting the speedo accuracy is a known thing in the bike world.
@jasonbrown7330

@@kleinbottled79if your motorcycle is shaft driven I believe it might be driven by the transmission. However I have yet to see a motorcycle that has chain and sprocket or belt driven that has the speedometer driven by the transmission. It doesn't make sense from an engineering point of view because people change their sprockets often to suit their personal riding needs. If as you say most motorcycles ran speedo from the transmission there would be businesses doing nothing but recalibrating speedos for bikes in every City and this is not the case. Especially since you have to have a special certification to recalibrate speedometers legally.

In stock form I agree with the HD assessment. I do not know what the top speed of my 2015 103" FXDL is. The speedo gives up on sharing that info at 120 MPH, but it continues to pull for a good bit. I don't expect it is getting better than 130 MPH. I am going to GPS is in spring. I am hopeful to see more gains with some head work later in the summer. It already has several other mods, and I'm not sure if I want to go much beyond the head work and some pro dyno tuning.

@@leee3880 digital speeds are often worked out by the speed of the front wheel, but also by a magnetic sensor. Usually mounted so it pickes up the rotation of the front sprocket. That's why your speedo still works while doing a wheelie...
@AleksiJoensuu
@AleksiJoensuu 4 жыл бұрын
@@leee3880 Older bikes will often have a mechanical drive from the front wheel yes. Newer ones usually pick up an electrical signal from the gearbox or front sprocket. So they would be affected by gearing changes indeed. But, it's so that a smaller sprocket up front or a larger one out back will make a speedo run faster. If both sprockets were smaller, then it would depend on the amount of difference of course but generally speaking they would be offsetting each other. (One tooth in front is approximately the equivalent of three out back)
