Maintenance and repair work on wind turbine blades have to be carried out rapidly and in a short time, even in winter time.
To meet the highest standards, Sika has developed Sikadur® Blade Repair - a fast curing 2-component resin system used to repair small defects and dry spots within the blade’s laminate structure. Its cure times as quick as 30 minutes will get a wind turbine up and running much quicker than other repair solutions on the market.

I was interested up until they whipped out the heat blanket, not even a fan of that, why not a battery operated heat gun.

Hello and thanks for your comment. Sika does not recommend hot air guns, because the curing temperature is not defined. Hot air guns often quickly become hotter than 80°C and the recommended curing temperature for Sikadur Blade Repair is 60-80°C. If the curing temperature is too high, damage to the repair or to the blade in general may occur if, for example, foams or balsawood are used.

Obviously not bothered about making a high quality repair if you think a heat gun will suffice.. The resin has to reach a specific Tg to ensure its fully cured and has the structural properties required to ensure a correct repair is achieved, and this can only be achieved by the application of a thermostatically controlled heat blanket. From a QC point of view if you cant prove an accurate post cure has been achieved the repair will be classed as failed.
