Did you know that shredding and destuffing are actually completely normal canine behaviors?
The best way to manage these needs is to offer appropriate outlets.
When we can offer the right outlets for our dog's innate behaviors, they are much less likely to turn to inappropriate means (such as shredding pillows).
By the way - this applies not only to shredding and destuffing, but to ALL of your dog's needs. Meet their need through daily enrichment, physical and mental exercise ... and you will have a much happier and better behaved dog :)
PS: This video does not apply to dogs that are destructive due to separation anxiety. In this case, you need to address the underlying root cause (SA) - not just their shredding need.

I always wondered why my dog destuffed her toys and shredded them. Thank you. I'll be saving those cardboard boxes for her to shred, makes it a lot easier to put shredded cardboard into the recycling anyway. :)

Would giving a dog an old shoe help with having the dog from chewing on GOOD shoes?

My dog would eat the fabric. He can’t even have a blanket in his crate.

These are awesome suggestions but what about the dog that actually EATS and swallows the 'stuffing' ? I sure don't want a vet bill for emergency surgery for removal of a foreign object from her gut. Whenever I try to remove an item from my dogs' mouth she thinks its a game of keep away and will actually gulp down the object just to keep it away from me.

My cattle dog mix is so happy! I started giving her stuffed toys to shred again. She even brought it back to me to play with her.

My 6 month old golden retriever loves this!! She pulls everything out of the hole roller ball over and over again and then is so calm and happy. She has been getting out energy this way and has never started to shred inappropriate things. Great idea!!

Yeahhh, my dog eats what she shreds...every time. Cannot give her plushie toys, she even tears tennis balls apart.

I'll have to try these tips, especially the toys in the pillow case. I always wondered why my dog would play with his toys for a long time and then suddenly, one day he decides he has to get to that squeaker. When that happens, I pull out the squeaker and give it back to him. Otherwise he chews the squeaker and I think he eats some of the bits. I wish they wouldn't put squeakers in toys for that reason.
