To clarify, the citibikes are governed to 15 mph, and the stations are farther apart than the subway, meaning you spend more time trying to put them away since you rent them by the minute and have to park them at stations.

I'm only a novice rider, but the amount of energy you spend on a skateboard in order to "beat" the subway or the bike, makes it a workout, not a commute. and when you have to ride uphill, that's a struggle too

What kind of set up are you using? Gear really can make a huge difference, wheels especially. Learning certain techniques such as mongo and switch pushing will save you energy and fatigue. When I started I couldn't even go a mile without being a sweating, shaking mess afterward, I'm much better at it now. You're pretty right about hills tho

@@dustmemory9891 i have a globe blazer 32" with the default set up, which mean a fast board for a beginner(?) but manageable. BTW your point about switching makes tons of sense. can you explain why mongo makes a difference in terms of fatigue?

@@4747da I know I‘m kinda late to the party here, so forgive me if I‘m telling you nothing new. As a novice rider myself, I may just be out of my depth here. Switch and mongo pushing help me personally because they give my front leg a bit of a break. My push leg essentially never gets tired, whereas my front leg can get cramped and sore when I ride for longer periodes/distances.

Hi! These are Saucony trail shoes! They're nice and minimal for board feel, Paul Kent coincidentally also uses them! I resoled mine with rubber soles, have a video on making replaceable soles shoes on our channel too! Medium to low durability otherwise! But Paul makes it work.

if you are able to ride a cruiser board its a bit smaller but big wheels does the same job. way easier on weight and carrying no way you lug a longboard in your backpack

I just started longboarding. How long should my longboard be? (freestyle riding)
@BlueridgeLongboardProject
@BlueridgeLongboardProject 2 жыл бұрын
Good question! If you're looking to do more freeride style freestyle, focused around sliding and some tail based tricks, a wheelbase from 20-25" would be ideal, if you want to get into more of the dancing side of freestyle, a board with a wheelbase from 25"-30" would be better. A rayne Nae Nae might be an example of an affordable intermediate board with potential for a little bit of all of that.

I know I‘m suuuuper late to thr party, just wanted to clarify what the deal is (be it for you or anybody else who might stumble across this comment chain and have a similar question). The Landyachtz Dinghy is a so-called mini-cruiser. Those are light, fast, agile boards meant for short rides that require speed, some comfort and a lot of maneuverability. The classic example is when you’re riding in the city. Mini-cruiser are distinct from *cruisers* which are longboards you typically ride for somewhat longer distance at a relaxed, laidback pace. Cruisers are longer than mini-cruisers (duh) and also built lower to the ground, making them more stable. This is further augmented by the truck construction. That means your legs and feet work a lot less to keep the longboard on course, so you get less tired.

He rented an electric Citi bike he doesn’t have to pedal as hard as a non pedal one. You also aren’t going to expect to run from one spot to another in Manhattan for a regular commute, he wasn’t pushing strenuously either on the longboard. Will he be more efficient than someone who doesn’t know how to ride? Sure but the bike and train were reasonable tests

I appreciate the scope of this video but I will say that someone as proficient as you are at longboarding on a bicycle would cut that time to under 20 minutes.

problem I've found in NY with bikes is storing them. The upside to longboards is picking it up and walking inside with it wherever you're going. It can live with your backpack. I would imagine a solid bike would be faster than a longboard for sure. However--the convivence is nice.
@BlueridgeLongboardProject
@BlueridgeLongboardProject 2 жыл бұрын
Tony has the right idea. It's more of a practicality issue. For someone visiting NYC and renting the citibike, they have slow gearing, and the e-bike is governed to 15 mph. Also another issue being the citibike stations are further apart than subway stations, meaning you have to travel further walking to your destination.
@abokoofficial
@abokoofficial 2 жыл бұрын
@@BlueridgeLongboardProject I mean I hear you but the title of the video is "fastest way around NYC" and with a single speed bicycle that you own you can lock it pretty much anywhere without worrying too much and it's easy to avg 22-25 miles an hour as an experienced rider down riverside. That's all I'm saying. It's not really about the citibike aspect it's just that a person as proficient as you are on a longboard with their own equipment will be faster on a bike for sure.

@@abokoofficial you ain't wrong, but people do get their bikes stolen in NYC all the time. And when you get home with a bike, you pick that sucker up, wheel it into your house, and lean it against or hang it on a wall. They take up a lot of space, which is very limited in the city. Lived there for a while. Boards were way more fun, felt more safe in between cars, and way less of a hassle. You're not wrong about top speed though.
@abokoofficial

@@PantheonLongboards you're a longboard company and I worked at a bike shop for 7 years. That's where the difference of opinion comes in. People on longboards and e boards get drilled by cars all the time because it's way more difficult to get to that comfort level on a skateboard.
