I found your channel a while ago, subscriber. I too found DC training and love it. I am 60 years old, a lifetime natural and got the iron bug back in high school. Back to my DC approach, I typically do several warm up sets then pick my working weight. No pyramids, that just cuts into your energy reserves. I work out in rep ranges primarily 8-15 for upper body and 15-30 for legs, very effective. I have a similar body structure to yours I'm 5'10&1/2 and have a medium bone structure as well. I love your reviews and find your humble approach refreshing and informative, KEEP IT UP SIR. Warmest Regards

I first found your channel while looking for levergym variations. The hacks you posted were beyond my wildest conceptions! And over time, you spoke about injuries, joint problems and mindful training. That one definitely touched a nerve - pun unintended. The focus on push-pull-legs was the most practical advise. The way you use your logbook made a big impact. In fact, the one where you measured your reps and weights truly upped my understanding of effort and progress. Your training schedule and dedication to the craft has been more than an inspiration. I look forward to your growth - and eventual training program - and you have my best-est wishes! This was great. I know you're kind of private and appreciate what little inside scoops you give on yourself. Im glad you found a training method you enjoy and you are right. We all need to follow our own path. I of course use mostly free weights but If i had money and space I would have some machines as well. I find a mix of everything to be not only great but almost needed. That is why i do love using the high low pulley and my smith machine. I dont keep up with what styles of training I do. I just lift. I do whatever my brain tells me lol. Im proud of you for your passion for all these years. i too have followed bodybuilding since the 80s and really got into it in the 90s. You carry the 20 pounds extremely well and your wife is correct about checking your blood pressure and sugar level. What a lot of folks don’t realize is that your body can’t differentiate the gain in weight whether it’s muscle or fat. A lot of bodybuilders who add extra pounds in muscles may have high blood pressure and needs to be careful with their health. Big muscles isn’t an indicator of optimum health. Your blood pressure and A1C levels and life style is what determines where one is with their health. Thanks for sharing your journey.

Thanks for giving us a look at you training and how you've successfully bulked. In my experience, when I was training fasted and losing out on an hour or two of sleep last summer, I lost strength and size. I always have a well balanced meal before now. And Cava and Chipotle are two of my favorite spots to eat out at! My wife gets so sick of it 😂 I hit up the Peruvian chicken and kabob spots often as well. I'm tempted to try HIT, especially after this high volume Juggernaut AI training. It's working well, but is very time consuming. Again, thanks for this. I enjoyed it!

Thanks so much, Carter! I remember you telling me a while back about you fasted training. Now, during the week, it’s 3 meals before lifting and 1 meal before lifting on the weekends. I’d rather train fasted but there’s no point in spinning wheels. Great to hear you like those 2 spots and at my last place there was an excellent kabob shop I went to at least once a week. It looks like you’re getting excellent results with what you’re doing, it would be interesting to see if you lose or gain on less volume.

Greatly appreciated! I am sorry to hear about your injury and I wish you a speedy recovery. I have not suffered that severe of an injury but I hope you have a good Physical Therapist who can help you get back in action quickly. When I have aches and pains or when it’s time to rehab an injury such as my lower back or shoulder, I refer to my book, Rebuilding Milo, by Dr. Aaron. There should be plenty of good exercises in that book to help you get back in action after rehab. Some of the band exercises I show in this video before my upper body push day might also be useful to you, but check with your PT just to be on the safe side.

Love this video! Thanks for sharing once again. Being a similar age I can relate with your journey from he man - 1980's action movies - martial arts - lifting weights. I also applaud you for your worthy mention of single (top set) training. I also agree with your thoughts on the push pull legs split. I have recently been getting back into a combination of hard gainer magazines from 'back in the day' and Mike mentzer, following this split training on an every 72 hours training rotation. As I have a baby son forcing me to use my arms to carry him, I was using my biceps too much in conjunction with training as I had too much crossover from my old 3 day a week routine on a 4 way split that ulilized biceps on 3out of the 4 sessions. I have bit the bullet and training less than I would like right now. Rest assured I relate totally how training too early is not the best and also more frequently is not best, but is good for the mind in one respect as you correctly mention! But I go to the gym fully revved up for action and biceps (no surprise) along with the other areas of the body are showing signs of additional growth, with micro loading strength gains going smooth and steady. I am glad you have packed on those extra pounds buddy and keep up keeping up the good work! 💪

I am a firm believer just like the Home Hacks guy, (sorry, I've never heard your name so U are the Home Hacks to me, LOL) in the training to failure method, Mike Mentzer's Heavy Duty program. I got my biggest and strongest doing it but I would have to take breaks every 2 1/2 - 3 months. I would use the method usually for 3 months then take 1 month off and during this month I would do strictly hypertrophy work, meaning I would do a lot of reps (12-16) usually and I used a weight that would make me fail at the 12-16 rep range. This lay off was still training to failure but I was working on making the muscles larger and not working so much on making them stronger. I got as big and as strong as I had ever been. I was a pitcher in college baseball (Elon College, NC) at the time and with the lifting and pitching I tore my rotator cuff. I should not have been lifting so hard during the season but I could fill up the Grand Canyon with things I know now that I wished I'd known then. U do that type of training consistently and I really believe U will meet your goals. Sorry for the rant but I watch U both every video U make. I'm not much on making comments but I find myself commenting on your channels. Take Care Guys

Hey I was wondering if you can do a video on how to seamlessly transition from workout to workout on the levergym if doing a circuit training workout. Like, it's a bit of a pain to go from bench press, then unload all the weights, adjust the arms, and then reload the plates for squats, then do the same when transitioning to rows, etc. Is there a method that can be more seamless and still allows for a fully body circuit using just the Levergym?
@HomeGymHacksandReviews
@HomeGymHacksandReviews Жыл бұрын
There isn’t a great way to go from exercise to exercise without stripping the weight. I have a full body workout video using the Levergym, but I don’t try to perform any of the exercises in a circuit. One option would be supersets between the cable and lever arms.

Just watched about 4 or 5 of your videos. Your gym is amazing, and I like your style/delivery. It's straightforward, humble, and relatable. I just have one somewhat negative point to make: Gaining 20 pounds of lean mass in one year -- from scratch, especially in one's 40s -- is extremely difficult. I base this on the science- and real-world-based information I've seen on the renaissance periodization channel. (I'm just a fan of theirs, and I trust their research.) I mean, genetic freaks might be able to gain 20 lbs in one year after their 20s, but not we old folks (I'm in my 50s!). So I believe what's going on here is you quickly made back the gains you developed at an earlier age. So, in a way, you've proved that once you program those cells for size, you can get it back quickly. (And this is a message the RP guys evangelize too.) Obviously, you did a LOT of hard work to get it back. Anyhow, you're looking great, and your health is where you want it, so it's a win-win-win.

Thanks so much and I sincerely appreciate your comment. I’m a big fan of the RP Team and Dr. Mike too. You are correct, at one point in the video I said it was a lot easier / quicker to get back to 190 pounds if I’ve already been here before. Unfortunately, shortly after this video, I got my lab work and my blood sugar, A1C, and cholesterol were all moving into problematic areas so I had to change course and I’m down 10 pounds.

When you get to 200-205 and then do a small cut, do you plan to do some kind of a maingaining thing with calories? I think it's where you try to last 6-10 months maintaining what you have and not in a calorie surplus, but then if you start to notice weight dropping abit or strength reducing in your log book, then you push up the calories abit again, do another cut after and then maintain. Is this how the cycle always goes?

Good video. I'd say you're right in line with HIT bodybuilding. Just different from the Nautilus circuit that A.J. wrote about to address all components of fitness as efficiently as possible (including flexibility with well-designed machines with resistance in the stretched position, and cardiovascular and metabolic conditioning), to efficiently train a team of athletes, to convince people the importance of strength and muscle in health which most were ignorant of back then even if they were into strength and muscle for other reasons, to counter the prevailing dogma that exercise physiology equals VO2 max and to sell his machines in his Ironman "articles"/ads. And similar to Mentzer's Heavy Duty training when he was actually into training himself and prior to his interest in less frequent training and more frequent recreational drug abuse. I am a little surprised (or impressed?) that you can HIT it 6/week and recover and progress, but it depends how defining failure. Overall, I very much agree that HIT & Chipotle are a winning combo!

Thanks so much, Brian! I was wondering what your take on my training would be as it’s morphed into what it is now. I think because I go to failure (and not beyond) or sometimes just slightly shy of failure I can train with the frequency I do. My mood usually suffers on days off so I have to train, lol. I’m not sure if CAVA is in Florida, but 9 out of 10 times it’s much better than Chipotle (and I was a Chipotle regular for 15 years).

I was excited to see this vid because I've been meaning to ask about how your frequency (autoregulated v set days, and how many days/week) has been playing out. As watching, I was thinking maybe were keeping 1 rep in the chamber sometimes to get 6 days in a row. Whatever works...and it is clearly working! Cool to turn the intensity dial down slightly to turn the frequency dial up. Usually, I'm 2 on/1 off and let the intensity rip, but can't do that all year so I do phases of 3-way split (3 on/1 off), w/less intensification stuff. With your home gym, I might be tempted to do 7 days/week, double split! Beach/tourist area so usually have all the chains. There are CAVA locations close by. I had never heard of them before. There are so many options around here I can't keep up. I need to check it out!

Hello, U seem to be very Intelligent and I think U are I are similar in our curiosity of weightlifting, the history of it, and the equipment used. I know there are certain pieces that U have that we both like. I am constantly trying to learn as much as I can about weightlifting and fitness. In so doing that I have been a Doug Brignole fan and viewer as I think his biomechanic info is enlightening. Most of it is common sense once I realized that all muscles to increase in size and strength pull from their insertion points to their origins. He has quelled some of my beliefs in relation to pieces of equipment that I like. One of these examples is the pullover machine. He states it is not good for working the back or the chest due to the biomechanics of the machine. I know U like the pullover as much as I do and I was wondering have U ever watched or listened to his explanations of certain movements and their effectiveness on our muscles? If U are not familiar with him, please take a look at some of his teachings but I'd bet U already have. If U have watched him what are your thoughts of his analysis and overall teachings? Even after listening to him, I say if a person enjoys a specific piece of equipment or a certain exercise then they should use the equipment or perform the exercise. I firmly believe we should make the weightlifting experience enjoyable and fun and not look at it as a chore. I'm very interested in your thoughts of Doug's biomechanical teachings. I enjoy your channel very much and value your opinion tremendously!!!! Thnkx for your time and btw I am Bobby, my friends call me BR

Hey, thanks so much and I appreciate you watching this video and some of my other videos too. I like Doug’s body of work and I take a little something from him and many of the names in the industry. In his day, Doug had an impressive physique and he found an approach to training that worked for him and that he enjoyed. As for the pullover (as with any exercise), I go by a couple things: 1) can I perform the exercise pain free? 2) do I feel muscular fatigue in the target muscle? 3) do I get a pump? 4) can I progress from session to session in small increments of weight and / or reps? 5) do I enjoy the exercise? If I can answer “yes” to all those questions, I perform the exercise even when someone says it’s not “optimal.” Of all the trainers and lifters who have come and gone, my approach to training is most influenced by Dante Trudel.

U know Doug always said to everyone that "I just explain the science of bodybuilding" but I don't agree with some of his beliefs science based or not. I'm a little younger than you (just hit 35) but we definitely need to find what works best for us and what we can stick to for longevity I will always centre my training around the barbell, but some days it's only 1 barbell exercise I build around and the rest of my accessory training for that muscle group I'm targeting is filled out with dumbbells/kettlebells/cables/bodyweight/machine work. I also do pull push legs and use carryover there for other days, I generally find back/pull is trained the most with what I do but it's the biggest muscle group I find so training it 3 days a week sometimes doesn't bother me. Push twice a week looks similar to you chest day then a shoulder day later in the week (hit my triceps whenever there) and legs once a week, occasionally twice where I'd pair some things on a pull day seems to work best for me getting a 5 day routine in.

@@HomeGymHacksandReviews thanks mate was last week, yeah kettlebells are great for strength accessories and functional training/HIIT particularly for posterior chain lifts, doing swings and cleans and stuff. I will always do something with a kettlebell on a leg day or my deadlift/row days. I've found a 40-40-20 strength/body-building/functional kinda training split to be optimal for myself and allows me to have heavy strength days and lighter hypertrophy/functional days to balance it out so I can continue to lift week in week out. I don't mind kettlebells for rows and OHPs too, that would be the main exercises for upper body hypertrophy with them, far more effective tool for lower body work.

I train all out to failure on every set and don’t do crazy volume but I still do 2 sets for each exercise one in the 6-8 rep range and one 12-15 to make sure I’m hitting both ranges on all movements. I do the odd drop set too. Say if I’m doing chest/shoulders I’ll do about 7 sets of chest all to failure. You could defo handle a bit extra volume even when taking it to failure.
