feather blades; are insanely sharp; couldn’t agree more sir!! Vokshod (sp?) Russian made blades are fantastic as well. Very hard to beat feather’s sharpness though; I started wet shaving with the Entry level Art of Shaving razor and bought my own Feather blades. I can also say that I’ve not cut myself as of yet; now I’ve gotten too close for comfort a time or two. I say that to let people know that it shouldn’t deter you from trying the wet shave method out; the results produced are sooo much closer and smoother than a Mach 38 or however many cheap edges they pack in a cartridge now a days. Great review sir!

As I've noted before, I owe my transition from cartridge razors to DE shaving to one of your videos. Personally, I prefer (more aggressive/efficient) open comb razors with with less expensive blades, like the Astra Superior Platinum blades that Bryan Wise mentioned or Shark Super Chromes. I'm a big fan of several different Razorock razors; their Old Type, SLOC, and they even have a couple CNC machined stainless steel open comb "Game Changer" models. Initially, I was drawn to "silo door" twist to open razors, but I've gravitated to more traditional 3-piece designs like those mentioned above. I was a bit wary of DE razors in the beginning, but once I learned some technique from watching various KZfaq shaving videos and gained experience, I haven't looked back. I've even tried a $1 razor from Dollar Tree -- it wasn't my best shaving experience, but I inspected it to ensure blade alignment and gap was OK and it worked. I've enjoyed shaving as a hobby; it's built confidence and, ignoring that I've collected a lot of razors that I've never used, I've saved a lot of money on blades.

It's weird, I bought 200 Feather blades when I started using DE razors (back around '04). They worked great for me for the first year, then they started feeling too harsh - I still have several packs left. I went to the bulk, Israeli Personna blades and I get much better shaves without the burn. My all time favorite blade is vintage English Wilkinson Sword... buttery smooth and oh, SO comfortable. After going through several new and vintage DE razors, I've settled on a 1959 Gillette Fatboy adjustable: I like being able to change the blade exposure for different blades and amount of stubble. I usually set it to "3" but if it's been a few days since I've shaved, I'll turn it up to "5" for the first pass, then back it down to "3" for the XTG and/or ATG.

If you want something that's cheap and - in my opinion - very much fit for purpose, there's the Wilkinson Sword Premium Collection starter kit, which contains a razor, five blades, a lather brush and a pot of shaving soap. For all that, it's £26.50. IDK on price and availability outside the UK. The razor and the blades are both very middle of the road on the mildness to aggressiveness scale, so you can get a really good feel for what it's like overall.

Nick, I'm a real man, my razor needs at least 7 blades all lined up in a row. It also needs to have a motor that makes it vibrate and causes the hair stand up and give me ASMR like tingles. I also demand 2 strips of some sort of smoothing lotion be attached to the top and bottom of the razor. Yes I know it wears off after one shave, but it's still gotta be there. Also, I'm not buying replacement blades that don't cost twice the price of the razor itself. You expect quality, that's why the replacement blades for a real man's razor are kept in a locked case. 30 dollars per box for a week and a half tops of shaving, that's how it's done. That flimsy metal shard you have will likely break upon coming into contact with my thick masculine beard.

Why would you buy a budget safety razor when there are still plenty of vintage, “Gillette Super Speeds” available. Troll eBay for a bit and you can easily snag one in great shape for $20. I literally have an example of every model year, to include the Parrots, Rockets and “Wide World of Sports” additions and I bet I spent less then $200. Most will polish up as good as new with a bit of semi chrome polish.
@regularguyknifechannel57533 жыл бұрын
P.s. almost all modern “budget” safety razors are made out of cast zinc or a zinc alloy. Zinc will “rot” in most tap water. Vintage Gillette’s are nickel plated solid brass, they will last you a life time as well as the lucky grand kid you will it to.
